anyone else get frustrated when watching startrek that they take so fucking long to fire back? and how they apparently have no knowledge of tactics when facing enemies with fasers or however they are spelt.
also wtf most of the time when meeting a hostile enemy and they are getting fired at, its usually that they get their shields knocked down to like 40%, then they realize that they should probably fire back... i find this extremely frustrating....
The battles in Star Trek are more similar to naval battles than dogfights between single man craft. So yeah there is more planning involved than just shooting at will at targets.
And sometimes during episodes, a hostile ship would cease firing if they were able to see that the Enterprise was unwilling to fire back. The Federation is largely in the pursuit of peace so they try to limit conflict as much as possible. Or, sometimes within a single volley of shots, the shields may drop to as low as 40 percent and then the Enterprise is likely to fire back.
At any rate, with a lot of these larger ship battles, there is more at stake. It's not like an X-Wing getting gunned down. Instead it's this huge fuck off capital ship that getting into battle with is a long commitment. This reality puts a different dynamic on the battles themselves. And usually if they take a long time to fire back at someone, it's because the ship is unidentified and they are desperately trying to avoid conflict during a potential first contact with a new alien race.
There were times though were if it was a Romulan ship decloaking and just going apeshit on the Enterprise, the Enterprise wouldn't hesitate to fire back and would fight until either ships is destroyed or disabled. Surely these things make sense, right?
This is all for you star trek fans who come to this website. Come give some ideas of what they should do next, or just talk about the shows and the movies.

Star Trek: First Contact is my favorite Star Trek movie. All you really need to know is that Captain Picard was once captured and assimilated by the Borg.
Star Trek is more about the message than the continuation of a story. You could watch about any of them in any given order. DS9 was much more linear, however.
I must say, that i did not know that this would get a lot of posts.
My favorite movie would have to be Voyage Home. I just liked how kind of unique it was, but when it comes to series. It would have to be Voyager. I got into that series a lot more than other.

That actually was pretty damn funny. And yes I deleted your earlier comment because an emoticon does not count as a post.

My favorite movie would have to be Voyage Home.
The Voyage Home actually had a really cool sci-fi premise to it. An ancient alien civilization had a relationship with a particular species of whales and communicated with them. In the future after that species of whale dies out, the aliens send a probe to Earth to find out why they've lost contact with the whales. The effects of the probe wreaks havoc on all nearby space stations and even the planet Earth. We don't even know who the aliens are, what the nature of their relationship with the whales were, or if they know what they're doing to everyone with their probe is bad.
Now unfortunately there is time travel in this one; a thing that Star Trek really needs to stop doing forever, but at the time it wasn't as played and it was really well done (except for the method-slingshot around the sun-ludicrous).

It kind of sounding like you were explaining it to me. On the other hand, I thought this was one of there best performances. This is just my opinion though. I liked the other movies, but this one I really got into. I just know that I am going to the next movie coming out. So very soon!

The last time they did time travel well was in First Contact. And now more than ever they need to stop doing it.
Stonebreaker, The Voyage Home is brilliant purely on the basis of seeing the Enterprise crew walk past a Winchell's Donuts. Everything else is just a bonus.
Oof! My girlfriend was telling me she had seen this new trailer and I was like, "Um, no, there are just the two trailers...." I cannot wait though. This latest one gave me the chills.
Do you guys ever watch heros? I was just saying because they had a great trailer on there as well. I am for sure going on the first night, eventhough there will be a lot of star trek nuts there (even me). I just know I need to get there early so i can get one of the best seats.
