voided the warranty? Warranty doesn't quit when you start using something... you just need to bring everything back in the box with receipt wtf o.O you exchange.
Yes my bro is smart, ty.

If you physically open up the video card and try to modify it (which theyll say you did) you void the warranty and you are no longer entitled to a new card without paying for it.
From what I can make out you're talking about opening the box to the video card, not the actual card, aren't you? If not, your warranty is indeed screwed.
Either way, you might want to take the adapter with the bent spikes back to the store and see what they say. The other one is probably supposed to be the way it is. 'Cuz it is these buggers you're talking about, isn't it? And while at it, ask them about the tearing. They will probably try selling you a new monitor. . .
I take it you have an old CRT monitor (those big, chunky ones, in case you're wondering) from what has been said. If you have access to one, you might want to try the card on a flatscreen. I'm sure you knew that much; just making sure.

"So I like climb out the window and I fall because we’re on the third floor , but it’s cool, because I land where my arm used to be, but it’s not there so it doesn’t hurt. And I’m thinking, yeah, man, this no arm thing is kinda chill."
from what i just read after googling screen tearing (failing to get respoinses to "define:screen tearing") i got a forum that said this is screen tearing.
All Nvidia cards are covered by a lifetime factory " WARRANTY ", parts / labor are free everythings covered for life. ( always in fine print on any nvidia product. )
Chaos, I suggest you go to "Run" type in "Dxdiag" and hit save an post the text file on here. or pm me what it says so i can further evaluate your issue. I'm sure you just have to get the latest "beta" drivers. Tone the game down a bit, go into your Video card's main options and adjust some things.
There's an option in your video card control panel that can be turned on to permantely keep V-Sync active. - " Force on " option
You go into your nvidia control panel go to 3d settings- Adjust image settings with preview. Then make sure you select "Use the advanced 3D image settings" then click - "Take me There" ..
Go in there an turn off triple buffering, make sure most of your antiailiasing options are set to app controlled for best performance texture you can set to quality or performance pending on your setup i can let you know more about what to do there after you throw your dxdiag on the forums.
Edit- To the above poster, yes screen tearing usually takes place when you're vertical frames are a bit off balance an it tends to make lines where you blatanly notice the changing of frames an it tends to cut off or show a tear on your screen.

Opened the box duh - and, I have a Samsung LCD screen.

I haven't read all of the posts. I'm only assuming you're having a screen tearing issue with one or two games. Go to Nvidia.com an make sure you have the latest beta drivers for your chipset.
Ah an 8800 GT those are nice cards slim but they heat up a bit, my card is a tad bit better. I'm going to be getting 3 of those GTs' for my new SLI rig when I get my 780i motherboard.
You're sort of bottle necking that video card with the HP you have. A pentium D isn't a true dual core yes it has two cores, but it doesn't run as smooth as the core 2 duo processors, and I could only assume there's a stock manufacturer powersupply in that thing that could hold it back a bit.
If the drivers don't help much an anything else hasn't worked go to nvidia.com an look up stuff on their support forum an see if people are having the same issue maybe they've figured out a way to fix the problem.
Isnt the 8800 gt a dx10 card? He must not have the software updated (not even released nethertheless beta) from nvidia since he had gotten it since it says the dx is 9.
Chaos, let me know of some of the other games with screen tearing, not matter how minimal it is. If I haev any of them then I can double check to see if my card does the same thing man.
Does it do it in anything like Hellgate, COD 4, HL2, Counter Strike?
Let me know man and i'll see if I have the same probs.
Go and find patches for timeshift to fix the issue. No there is no direct X 10 for XP. It's vista exclusive, having your dx 10 " Capable Card " play on windows xp does nothing to your performance. Thus when you check your display drivers etc., etc. It will show you that you've got the latest version of dx 9 if you have them of course.
And if nothing else fixes the screen tear issue then wait until a new(er) beta driver is released if the one i posted before did not help any. Because that will be one of the only ways to make sure that tearing effect goes away. I remember playing the timeshift demo a while back an saw a tad bit of screen tearing here and there but there was nothing too annoying. It's the game in general, hardware has to be adjusted right with the driver updates in order for things to run right.

Dude. Don't get vista.
Most games have compatibility problems anyways. Vista IS a compatibility problem.
It's not a bad Operating System but you're just going off of what other people are saying " Hype ". I run vista home premium 32 bit, switching to ultimate 64bit next week. Things run flawlessly, no game compatibility issues thus far and I'm pretty sure I own atleast 100+ PC titles. You just have to make sure you have a rig that can handle the operating system and the packed on weight of your games an other applications. Most of the stuff in my system came out early 07'. Of course I also did some homework on all the tweaks and things I can remove and change to make the OS run smoother specially whilest playing video games. I can run crysis on all high specs >.> beat the game twice, for the hell of it.

Freak, is there anything else you need to know? And thanks for your attempts to help me. Triple buffering was already off, and I forced V-Sync on.

@Mijnwraak - DX10 is for Vista only. I don't have Vista. That's why it's still DX9.
