People that download games from the internet are unlikely to buy it.
Yes that's why piracy is not harmful to worthwhile products.
Quote from "hndW" »
If you actually buy it, well then the whole pirate stuff does not apply to you.
Before something is shared something has to be bought, which means all those people who share the stuff, who are the actual pirates, have bought the game.

"Great game, too bad I already played so there's no point on buying it now."; See what you did there?
I bought StarCraft in June. Do you know how many StarCraft versions have I had before? And how long have that game been out? I still bought it tho.
Also, I have pirated Oblivion out of curiosity before I bought it. LOLOLOLOL

You walk in a store and you find what you're looking for, however your friend told you that he downloaded it from the internet last night.
I really don't know what could be sold in a store that can be pirated. I can't relate to your example.
Quote from "hndW" »
or go with your friend and enjoy the same music for nothing.
The music I enjoy is at least 10 years old for the most part. I think its authors have come and gone long time ago and if I pay $10 more for it it won't make any difference. In fact, it won't go to the band it will go to the store or the publisher or this or that.
Quote from "hndW" »
Now, what could possible make you choose to buy it?
Loyalty to the product. Simple.
Quote from "hndW" »
Well those people are the ones that should pirate but yet should shut up.
No they don't need to shut up because they are not doing anything bad. It's illegal but that's about it.
Quote from "hndW" »
It's not something to be proud of.
Proud of what? Good internet connection? It's just a normal way of getting information.

I dislike people that think it's so cool and say something like; "LAWLS! I l33t! losers pay for games! LAWLZ!".
Honor code of a pirate "If you like this game, buy it!" Idiots can be found everywhere. Including among those who oppose piracy.
Before something is shared something has to be bought, which means all those people who share the stuff, who are the actual pirates, have bought the game.
Hmm.. good point. But I was refering to people that download pirate games and then make up their minds.

You're a rare example of a pirate user. People are not like you, they download, play and then it wont matter if it's a damn good game or a bad one.
Are you going to buy Starcraft 2 or pirate it first? I'm sure you're a fan of Blizzard so I guess you wont be looking for Sc2 on the internet.

CDs, DVDs, Softwares and Games. I think you misunderstood what I meant about a store.

Sure, but it's fading away. At least here, pirate is something commun. I'm only a few that are loyal to a product. If there's a way to get it free, loyalty is nowhere to be found.

I meant, people should shut up about being awesome beacuse they pirate stuff.

Are you proud of pirate stuff? I mean, you said the only reason you pirate games is beacuse you don't think they deserve your money, untill prove they worth. So it doesn't seem you have problems with money, so pirate is just a trial version? Again if you buy after pirate something, it kinda nullified your action.

I'm definetely not a fan of Blizzard ever since they screwed up WarCraft (talking about WC3, not WoW). I have money saved for SC2 right now. Will I buy it first or pirate it first depends on the info that comes. I will most probably buy it but simply because I want to get into the game and multiplayer as fast as possible.

Well, I get my movies via netflix, all my bands are old, I hardly use any software besides alcohol and games usually get pirated, played, and thrown out... or lying around.

I'm not proud of anything I just may be doing it. There are some games which I never bought for varios reasons, usually Russian games (Perimeter, Allods), or stuff like HL2 Epizode one because I have bought HL2 and Episode One is tiny so wtf. I never finished it tho I got to like level 3 or something...
I bought D2 long ago and lost it so now I have a bad version. We bought Age of Empires 2 twice because we had original in Ukraine and the disk broke so we just bought The Conquerors in Best Buy... Which still doesn't work in multiplayer for some reason. Oh and I bought Age of Empires 1 in CompUSA for $10 lol
We bought an English FarCry because our Russian one was buggy and it didn't patch itself.
We bought Serios Sam: Second Encounter, but that was in Russia so I'm not sure where that money went, really.
Bought NWN in Ukraine finished it twice played it some more and kinda forgot about it because I can't play it more than once.
I never bought any of the Heretic/heXen games becasue they are like 10 years old each.
Most recent buy was Oblivion and me and my dad played it for hours so we are happy about that one. But I'm not buying any expansions.
I finished DooM 3 once and never bought it but I will have to if EoC comes out becasue EoC doesn't work on a random D3. It took me 3 days to finish the game lol Played Quake IV to half of it or so and forgot about it and I'm too pissed at Raven for not making Heretic/heXen III anyway.
And there are about 50 games burned on CD's which I never play... Including a lot of games of whom I had high expectations, such as Gothic 3.
So I have like $100 now so it's SC2 and some other lucky game.
I'm [b]definitely[/b'] not a fan of Blizzard ever since they screwed up WarCraft. (talking about WC3, not WoW)
You still enjoy Diablo and Starcraft and you're a regular user of a Blizzard fan forum, so that should make you a little bit of fan. Nonetheless, what you mean by screwed up Warcraft? The game is great and the story line is stunning and it fits like a charm. What could they’ve possibly screwed up?

I'm not attacking people for downloading illegal software. I’m just pointing out that is not cool as most people think. Maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit, and studies have show that piracy is actually increasing their sells.
-Bottom line: You’re not cool if you download piracy. You’re either a grounded spoiled kid or a cheap guy/girl, for that matter.
Quote from "Equinox" »
I'm not proud of anything I just may be doing it.
Sorry, I used the wrong word. I meant cool, not proud.
Quote from "Equinox" »

Well, I’m guessing that Starcraft will cost at the very least $59, so you won’t be having much to spend on. I can safely assume that Crysis and Hellgate are heading to the piracy list. So you might as well start saving for Diablo 3.
hndW you have a very generic view of piracy/download and I am tired of explaining it to you... you are not a 3D-modeler or a programmer or someone of that sort so this problem will probably never hit you, or you want to think of yourself as some "good" person or something, but piracy has been begun by people a lot smarter than yourself or myself and before you babble about it maybe you should at least have a clue what it actually is, where it came from, and who does it.
I thought I made it clear that I don't give a damn about kids downloading Fallout Boy or whatever. They are the mass who went after the starters of information sharing. They are the same as people who play crappy PC games because, originally, PC games were a cult. Everything, when it begins, is a cult, and at first it is very high quality, and then it begins to go down. Movies, music, games, economics, marketing, piracy, democracy, anything. Begins like a quality cult, eventually goes down.
Piracy, or information sharing, is neither cool nor not cool, it's just is. I believe people should do it when it comes to giant monopoly companies. I believe it gives Microsoft and other companies a warning.
Sorry, I have this little problem that if anyone quotes me, I feel abligated to reply to. It’s been near five pages of pointless post. Yes, I do feel like a “good” person. But I guess a “good” person this days is just a moron with a false feeling of what’s right and wrong. Now, stop posting, otherwise I’ll be replying forever.

It's like people discussing NLP, it's ridiculous.
Nothing "goes down" because nothing ever started anywhere high, no matter if it has begun as a "cult" or anything of the sort. There are values, and not just good ones, that survive the test of time, and are constantly being tagged with concepts such as democracy, capitalism and communism, but they remain values, cloaked in such same fancy words. Regarding right or wrong, it's all a matter of point of view. You will steal food from a grocery store to feed a hungry tramp kid. Call it choosing the lesser of two evils, if you wish.
Regarding the matter at hand, piracy is a concept related to a "bad" value, such as thievery, but you might as well call the marketing of a simple audio cd at a 29.99$ cost thievery in it's own kind. Yeah sure, buy it if you can, don't if you can't, but then you'll be left out. That kind of capitalism creates gaps in society, thus creating "bad" values, seperating and dividing streams in society in all ages, which usually turn their backs on each other or even become hostile to one another. So in this case, which is most cases in which downloading piracy is related- Piracy is a good thing, or rather it is the "lesser of two evils".
Oh, and @hndw.. was that "keep replying" post, a threat? If you wish to know so much about the trade, learn it, instead of asking the wrong people at the wrong time in the wrong place such questions.

It always goes down. There are no good books to read no good movies to see no good games to play. There are all those little exceptions but exceptions only prove the rule. If you think that today's books/movies/games/music are on the same level as they were before you simply got no taste to these particular things. Any new thing begins with selected appreciators and ends with the mass. The mass has no taste they eat everything which is why the good goes down and the crap goes up.
And I don't even have any "the grass was greener" complex, I was born in 1990 wheren pretty much everything died. Everything I like is usually has been made before I was born. Strange, huh?
