sure you do! your saying that when you were a kid you never played "guns", cops and robbers? indians and cowboys? or some variation? they didnt come from your imagination, they were ripped off from games and movies.
Of course you didnt go find an actual gun and kill people but some people do and im saying that videogames and movies might have an effect on that.
of course i pretended but not all that much, mostly played sporting-esque games or video games, but i wasnt talking about my childhood and pretend. i was talking about now, and wielding an actually 5 ft scottish Claymore and actually semi automatic machine guns.
and when i said stuff that isnt actually there i was talking about this guy who went crazy and said he was shooting aliens or something and accidently shot some people.
why the hell would i talk about pretend?

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
but who knows for sure what effects video games have on the minds of "damaged goods" kids?
If that is the case, I am sure that there are many more potential dangers out there than just video games when it comes to setting people off.

Like i said in my previous post vid games and movies dont kill people i do. no wait that didnt come out right, vid games and movies let some disturbed kids think its allowed to do things like hurt or kill people.
Playing indians and cowboys is in a way the same as playing video games, both pretend things that won't happen in real life. I played that, I played I was in the military blowing shit up, I played with toys that shot, smashed, destroyed and killed each other, and I play video games in which do the exact same things.
However, I think what worries people are the graphics. They are becoming more and more realistic, and one of these days they will mimic reality to perfection. What happens when that comes I do not know.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I mean, take FEAR, take most shooter games today, they are all gray and brown. And the design is so realistic it's unoriginal. I liked the old games better, which consisted of bright colors and labyrinths which didn't make sense. The only games that can match them today are Serious Sam and FarCry...
So I fear that games, just like music, movies, books, will drown into pop and become complete rubbish for the most part...

I think the greatest reason for that is that we just passed a threshold. Earlier, there was no way that we could have created realistic graphics, so we made do with what we had and didn't try.
Nowaday's however, we're not really in the old-school region anymore, but we're not at completely realistic images either. We're in between, and not until we get to the end will things turn out good.
Besides, almost everyone in every generation always claims that something from the past was better than it currently is

Now that's a subject which is certainly debateable, and totally based on perception.
But yes, I think it was much better when the number one reason for early deaths we're infections, when it was believed that witches were common and burned on the stake, and when you had no way of getting out of your born societal class.

I thought a major appeal of video games was that it wasn't too close to reality. When I think about it, I imagine if a game or VR game was something that looked exactly like real life, that could be boring. But it is an interesting debate concerning graphics: when will graphics kind of top itself out? Just how advanced can video games possibly be?
But like I've always advocated in the past, graphics are only maybe secondary to what makes a game great.
Monkey Island is a good example of how a game doesn't need spectacular graphics. It's just a really interesting game to play. And when they made the sequels to those games with the new graphics, it seriously lost a lot of appeal for me. I'm not saying I'm against better graphics, but what constitutes better graphics is extremely subjective.

I was talking about art. Classical books, classical music, and other stuff that doesn't get old.

I dont see graphics that detached from gameplay, graphics can certainly have a functional function in gameplay.
Graphics, or, rather, design, decides how the atmosphere of the game would feel. It's a major affect on the gameplay for me. And the technicality doesn't matter. It can be a pixelated game with great atmosphere and a photorealistic game with no atmosphere at all.

I always thought it would be cool to have a game where you have to plan the assassination of the president. And it was a big strategy game where you had to cover your tracks, check into hotels, rent cars, etc. I kind of pictured it like In the Line of Fire.
But I'm sure a game like that wouldn't be very p.c.
im not going to beat a dead horse, but cmon. the only reason people blame games, the only reason politicians arent supporting video games is because the game industry conducts itself. they dont pay anyone for licenses, and they dont pay lobbyists for permissions or what-not. the only real reason for this is because of this kind of thinking:
"they arent paying any of us in politics, therefore we will slam them until they do start paying us for absolutely nothing"
because what are lobbyists other than beggars? all they do is figure out a way to get money, they dont really do any kind of work other than ask. then they line their pockets with gold and diamonds. i hate lobbyists.
Ive thought much what would happen when real virtual reality would be possible (i'm not just thinking photorealistic graphics but the whole experience) and we would play for example a game simmilar to second life.
I think many people would get confused about reality (its amazing how easy our mind can be fooled about whats real).
And someday real VR is gonna happen. (i'm thinking in 50 years)
There's a lot of people being fearful that once we get there, society will cave in on itself because why would you want to be in real life when a simulation, in your control, is indistinguishable from it?

I almost completely disagree with you here. A game that is just as the real world in appearance, but following different rules, would be extremely entertaining. Imagine an RPG with fireballs flying, mythical beasts springing up everywhere, and a genuine feeling that it was "real".
Of course, I wonder if such a game would be easy to play, considerng the psychological effects one could possibly suffer, but interesting none the less.

thats basically the concept of the matrix
A virtual reality (earthly wolrds and such) when really its actually just a matrix, a fake dimension...kinda funny really. It all depends on your beliefs, But I know this isnt virtual reality now- and I am glad 50 years from now, I will probably be dead, and in heaven with my woman, and my borthers and sisters, and father.

It's Not Video Games that cause Violence, It's A Combo of Video Games, Tv , And Parents/Peers/other influences that cause Violence, it's stupid to blame it on one thing
You can't blame entertainment on these problems. And videogames actually keep you from doing these things, because you can experience things you cannot in real life, and therefore quenching your thirst to do something crazy in real life. The kids/adults who do things that people do in video games are just retarded (not mentally, I just mean they're stupid). But, if you give an 8 year old Diablo 2 and GTA:San Andreas, expect them not to grow up normally.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
We all have fantasies of doing things that are ridiculous and unorthodox ex: slaying demons, having super powers,...etc But only a person that has psychologicol problems would impose that reality on his own.

I like the life I lived, because I went from negative to positive.
You know very well who you are, don't let them hold you down, reach for the stars.
There is no study that says video games causes violent attitudes. The study says video games are a contribution to a persons actions. Violent games can become an inspiritation to express behaviors in a similar art form.
Games are one of a billion factors that contribute to a persons behavior. Studies are done on all of these factors, so no one said "People are violent BECAUSE of video games". It's just one of the many factors which I do agree with.
Video Games do increase physiological arousal; and decrease prosocial behavior. No offense but look at this forum. 75% of it is everyone Role Playing pretending they have taverns, pretending they are ninjas with big scimitar blades. You can't ignore the large influence games have on a persons behavior and personality.
I don't believe in government conspiracies, because it's not always the government that is running these studies. It's Professors with Ph.ds who do a multitude of tests. I just don't see anyone blaming video games, I just see people looking at it as one of the possibilities.
Therefore, I am voting yes. Video games should carry some blame.
