Ive been around modding for a long long time, since the age of 12 (started getting into it with Battlefield 1942) and from then on I had been on various mod teams, i had worked on the Homefront halo mod for 1942 , Infinity Mod which was a scifi mod created by myself and my cousin. and also a few free lance models for half life mods.
Currently Im studying to major in Digital Art & Visual Effects at my city college, and will transfer to the Academy of Art University in San Franscisco where I will continue my studies.
I come here on behalf of the Diablo Community to assemble a team of skilled artists to rebuild the first and second Diablo games on the new Diablo 3 Engine.
You ask how are we able to start building the mod if we dont have the game?
- In almost every aspect of videogame design, it all starts from several core programs, and these programs are your modelling/animation programs, (3ds max, Maya) your coding (any C++ or similar proggy) and your texturing tools ( Photoshop etc). The tools have been available for us since i can remember, and are the very tools the professionals use to create these games. We can get a head start by finishing models, textures, etc until the SDK for Diablo 3 comes out, thus being able to start the mod months before the game is out and giving is an earlier release date (thats good!!).
Are you allowed to do this on blizzards behalf?
- Reinventing THEIR original games onto THEIR new ones brings no harm, to the modding community, if anything blizzard will encourage it, and will be happy about it because they dont have to do it!.
How many people would you need?
- Currently I do not know the amount of people that I would need to begin this, currently myself as a modeller and texture artist, I could start on the varies original diablo 1 & 2 enviroment/char/item models myself, but with the amount of content in the originals im sure that the team will at least be 10 people or more.
What does the team get out of it?
- Whats in it for you? well the fact that you can play diablo 1 & 2 on the new engine is one thing, but being remmebered as one of the guys that worked on it, theres a whole another golden ball park. You build portfolio work for those who are also looking into major in the field of videogames etc. We might even get recognition from blizzard themselves! Who knows. In the end its all about the love of the game, the fans, and yourself.
How can i contact you? do i have to show you any of my previous work?
Since blizzard decided to keep doing a warcraft like diablo, i really thought of a mod that would make d3 look darker and gothic(just like d2).
I have some skills with 3dstudio max and gmax so if you are expectin weapons/armor models i think i can help ya.
Well as much as this project sounds kick ass (like the workshop but bigger), I am horrible at actual programming. I can help assist making the story and saying what needs to be better, but that's about it.

Federer lost Wimbledon. Why? Becase none of you bastards cheered for him...
Someone pointed me here so I am back just to express interest in this if it ever gets anywhere. I think Diablo 1 would be a reasonable goal to rebuild albeit difficult, D2 is far too big and complicated and I wouldn't even contemplate joining a team that planned on shooting itself in the foot by biting off more than it can chew. Senorchili, do you have a website, perhaps images of your work so I can more accurately gauge how likely this is to work?
Sonic, game companies rarely care about people making mods of their older games on their new engines, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain since they never plan to remake their older games. If the team intended to make money then thats a different story.
Hmm a D1 mod sounds good. I'd start there. If that became popular maybe THEN you could start on D2 but Corwyn is right. D2 straight off the bat is too much to do.

I'd play a D1 version though.
Totally agree, in my personal opinion d1 its the best d to date.

You have to admit that he's good.
