Gah, the way people support this whole console thing makes me sick... must rant.
Before I rant, get this: I have to say movement controls can feel better (its analog) and the fact you can more easily play on your big screen is fantastic.
// begin rant
Why would a Diablo fan argue that it isn't "Diablo"? Blizzard won't remove any content. Its Diablo. Fans arguing it isn't "Diablo" are ignorant. I realize thats not meant to be taken literally, but how else could you take it? Of course it can't be the exact same game. Surely they aren't gonna throw in some stormtroopers here, and a few Master Chiefs over there and call it Diablo. So how is it not Diablo? Again -- it is Diablo!
Claiming it "lends itself" to consoles is just nonsensical.
At this point, you may say "What a babbling idiot! No facts! He hasn't played it on console yet! Its gotta be so much better!" Oh-ho... Hold up. I have facts.
I bet these tasks are going to be SO much easier on console! I can't wait! I'm all giddy!!! So here's whats going to be easy:
Targeting mobs at the back of groups
Looking through inventory
Managing inventory
Dealing with vendors
Stashing goods
Selecting skills
Browsing stats
Picking up loot when theres a ton of loot
Experimenting with unlimited respec
Give me a break. Its going to be Menu Browser 3 unless they come up with some kind of break through in control devices. Oh wait! We have one on PC! Its called a mouse!
// end rant
I R confused. Unless I'm a complete idjot and didn't catch your sarcasm, all those things listed seem like they would be very difficult to achieve with an analog stick.
I'm REALLY hoping for a 360 version. I don't have a computer that meets the requirements of D3, but I do own a 360. I played Torchlight on 360 and, honestly, I love the feel of it. It plays extremely well with a controller. I do miss the portrait of the character and being able to see what you're wearing at a glance, but I could live without it if it meant I didn't have to shell out $1000 for a new computer just to play D3. As far as skills like leap attack and such, a set distance could work fine, just take a little getting used to.

I Largely agree with this point. Picking up loot, targeting specific creatures and area powers (leap attack, corps spiders, etc) are going to be where the design challenges lie unless they want some clunky thumb-stick cursor *shudders*. As for the item management, vendors, and skill selections they may use something similar to the resistance (1&3) weapon wheel which works very nicely (think of having 4-12 skills on a page and each page named as they are separated currently or items separated by slot/class pages). It would definitely need some reworking and innovation due to sheer quantity, but its a start. As for stat browsing and the actual inventory, I do not know...

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
To be fair the movement controls are one thing the skill targeting is another. For an example aiming some thing like "explosion" that targets an area on the ground. How exactly do they plan to deal with the targeting for such skills.
Also to the people raging because they don't want it on console, just don't play it on console then. It's not like it being on console is going to ruin the PC version. If there are people that want a PC version and Blizzard makes one good for them. But to rant and rage about it seems to be a waste of time.
You misunderstood my point. I totally embrace Diablo coming to console. However, I feel those that believe it will somehow feel "better" on console, are misguided and felt I should at least bring them back to reality.
I don't think there is a problem with console version of Diablo 3. What I don't like is when they limit what they can do on the PC because they are also making it for the consoles. Mouse + Keyboard = way more options and flexibility than a consoles controller.
I loved Diablo 1 on Playstation 1. Though i prefer mouse a keyboard for most games, if they do it right i wouldn't be averted to trying a controller for D3.

I for one don't care if they do this or not, but as for the whole aiming at certain mobs in the back scenario, I can think of one solution. There are two analog sticks on controllers, most likely the left analog would be used for horizontal movement(where the character faces and moves), since vertical movement isn't used in Diablo anyways. The right analog stick could be used for the aiming of skills...it's kinda hard to explain. For example, your character is always in the center of the screen moving in the direction that you push the left analog stick, while the right analog stick works sort of like the mouse pointer.
I know that probably sounds really confusing, but yah. If it's implemented correctly it shouldn't be that difficult to control, though I admit it would be more of a hassle then clicking with a mouse.
Only reason they are even thinking about porting d3 to 360 is because not all of the xbox kids have good computers to run d3, so it's all about $$$.. It will be a sad day for mankind if diablo 3 gets released on console.. And for people who want to play with controller I say "If you can't play with mouse + keyboard you don't deserve to play".
I'm not worried about Diablo 3 since most of the people who tried it is already describing it as feels like Diablo 2 and controls like a diablo game. What I'm worried about is the future diablo (part 4 anyone?) or w/e blizz is going to do with the franchise on its next chapter. If the console version of D3 (if it ever happened) exploded and became a huge success then the next chapter will be made with console in mind. And that folks will mess up our dear game. The UI, the controls, the game play, ugh I'm puking just thinking about it.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
Movement control with a console controller sounds much better...What I'm worried about is the spells where you have to indicate their "impact" location much like the monk's dashing strike or the witch doctor's flame bomb thingy...I don't think it would be nice to have to control a cursor with an analog stick, and I'm completely against the idea of holding a button longer to increase the distance of the desired spell...but I'm sure they won't do that.....I hope.

and whatever I am tired of waiting, since the PC version should come before console, I ll still with PC ...
They need to get their priorities straight. Just watch, D3's going to get postponed to Q4 2012.
