Every bit of info this game releases makes me want to play it more and more. I like how they are thinking for the long haul of the game. Gives you something to look forward to for the years that this game will be played by must of us.
I think 19,000 sounds great. First of all, it's hard to make any assumptions without knowing the drop rate of lvl 5 gems. Second, you all have to step out of the D2 bubble. The point of gems is no longer to put three ptopaz in your MF helm.
The whole concept if lvl 14 gems is to give players a way to push their equipment just a little further than the rest. I'm guessing that, without trading, you might run around with level 8 gems in your gear when you finish Hell. And that'll be fine, because that's how it's meant to be. The extra levels are there for those people who wish to spend a lot of extra time to perfect their characters. Everyone's not supposed to have all 14 gems in their gear. Just like everyone originally wasn't supposed to have an Enigma each for all of their characters.
Barbie: "WTB RUBY TUESDAY"
Cartoons: "I got 3 Ruby Halfs... do they make Tuesdays?"
Barbie: "Uh... maybe? Guys, what rank is before Tuesday?"
Wizkid: "Wednesday"
Munk: "Weapon I think"
Wizkid: "No I'm sure that's after Tuesday"
Munk: "GUYS GUSY CHEK IT THE MOAR U CLIKKED THE CHAT GEM IN D2 THE MOAR GEMS YOU MUST COMBINE TO GET MAX LEVEL LOLOLOL"
Did anybody else laugh far too long and loud at this?
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I like the idea of having a chance to find a stack of gems up to 5x .... I also think that gems should be able to stack close to infinite. Example, one player goes through the game but doesnt care much for the higher gems but still collects the lvl 5 gems. After finishing the play-through he could have perhaps 200x lvl 5 gems in one stack, easily trade-able to someone for some gold.
In addition to that, "tramsmuting" gems to a higher level could be like, you just transmute the 200x stack and get 1x lvl 10 gem and 1x lvl 9 (or whatever lvl it would go to). It would take the hassle out of transmuting thousands of 3x gems.

Totally agreed. If gems are going to be this ridiculous to collect, they should stack to high heaven. Esp if you have to return to town to XMute them!
I like the fact that the gem is almost nearly impossible to get. It adds value to end game content and it something other than farming for the baddest weapon/equip item in the game.
Well, getting items is basically going to be about farming, too, or everyone will have gotten everything powerful within a few weeks and the game will be dead online and no one will play it. You also have to take into consideration that it would be ridiculous to just be able to get everything right off the bat. If there's no work involved, there's no point in having it because it's valueless.
As long as nothing is SOJ rare, I am fine with it. In D2 classic it was a bit too easy to get but that piece of shit is just impossible to find in D2 lod.
This is the kind of thing that encourages duping and cheating.
You got me wrong, Magistrate I don't want to get everything "off the bat" but let's say that after a few months of playing I got up to a pretty high level and I want to start making level 14 gems. I want this to take me maybe a month max to get one level 14 gem, but of course I don't want this to happen overnight, because that's just not fun, right
But if a player needs many, many months of playing just to get One level 14 gem is ridiculous I think.
The difference being that Zod's, and everything in between, can drop from monsters, but gems level 6 and up can't
Makes a huge difference when you can drop a rune that's worth 5 million l1 runes, and everything in between. The issue is that it takes 20k gems just to make one...it's insane.

Yeah, and since nothing from 6 ~ 12 gems will drop, you have to craft or trade all of them, unlike runes, which makes it much tougher, which is exactly what I said numerous times.
In my defense, i was aiming for "monstrous" and for some reason i spelled "MONSEREUS"
But at least my ideas were simple and i think helpfull
P.S
im the bad speller who wrote the post in Blizz D3 forums

What about Ruby Soho?

I loved cubing gems. For no reason whatsoever. Although I hope they stack the gems better and maybe a better cubing interface...
