aaand who confirmed, that the demon in the cinematics is diablo? i think Septar is right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUphab6C0mQ&feature=related pay attention to this video at 2:36 - 2:54. u can clearly see that the creature there is the same from the trailer, aaand...hmm... i just dont think, that diablo has 4 arms, and is that skinny. and it looks like it is female...so...it isn't Diablo. (in my opinion)
From Diablo3.com:
Commemorating the exciting announcement of Diablo III, Blizzard Entertainment and Sideshow Collectibles are proud to introduce the Diablo III Premium Statue series with its epic first release. Unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2008, "Overthrown" depicts a mighty barbarian atop the conquered Diablo, shouting towards the High Heavens in vicious triumph.
Here's the Statue:
It's obviously the same demon! Now read this! This is Bashiok's quote from BlizzCast Episode 5 [1:12]:
Bashiok: It was standing room only obviously and yeah, it was a really cool way to intro. Having the guitarist come out and play those first few chords and then launch pretty much straight into the cinematic and yeah I don't think people were, they knew what was going on I think, but it seemed like they reserved their massive applause for really like the end of the cinematic when the Diablo head came out and they were like 'Okay it's Diablo' and then that logo shows up with the three and they're like ‘Okay, here it is' and just everybody went completely off the wall.
Look at this video at 0:48! This is Russell Brower (for those who don't know), the Music Composer for Diablo III!
He said "so by the time we played the video and saw Diablo roar"!
Everything points to the same Demon!
That's enough for me to conclude that it IS Diablo!
Do you have any idea how game development goes down? I'm going to assume no since you've drawn these conclusions from the sources you chose.
For one, the description of the statue wasn't even written by an employee involved with the Diablo 3 development. He was probably just shown the statue and was told to write up something about it.
And the music composer?
Really? Do you honestly think he is involved with the game development in depth enough to know whether or not that creature is actually Diablo? Guess what, he's not. In most cases music composers are told of what kind of music to compose and they do it, and the actual game developers listen to it and see if it's a fit. He might be shown clips(as is this case, for the D3 cinematic trailer music) and some concept art to get an idea of what to compose, otherwise he knows as much about the game and story as you do. So naturally, he thinks that the big mean monster at the end of the trailer is the big mean monster the game is named after. A foolish conclusion, but he's just composing music for it and not picking apart every follicle of the damn demon.
Give me a quote from Jay Wilson or Leonard Boyarsky confirming that the monster is Diablo, and you'll have a case.
I forgot about Bashiok.
Yeah, he's barely involved with game development too. He mostly just parrots what he's told from the actual game developers.
The statue was made showing a Barbarian defeating the demon in the cinematic. This demon is referred to as Diablo by the person that did the caption for the statue, the D3 music composer, and Bashiok. They all refer to the same demon, and they are all mistaken. Sound pretty far-fetched to me.
1. I would understand it if Bashiok did a mistake with a minor demon, but that is Big D, and Bashiok is a Blizzard employee. It is not like that is a minor detail like a peculiar looking tree in Act 3, but Diablo. Do you seriously think that Bashiok doesn't know who Diablo is in D3? Do you really think he would guess? Do you really think he have not been told who it is and allowed to answer that question?
2. The name of the demon defeated in the Overthrown statue, Diablo, is wrong. Even if it is featured on the Diablo 3 official website it has not been corrected. You believe that the description and statue have not been seen by several Blizzard employees and corrected. I assume that you therefore think that Jay or Leonard have not seen or been notified of this mistake. Correct me if I'm wrong.
3. Blizzard employees make guesses about important things that they then announce to the public, even if they are only allowed to talk about certain things. They are not allowed to reveal the final class, but they are allowed to say who the demon in the end of the cinematic is. They are allowed to say who it is as a fact, even if they are only guessing.
Every evidence, how full with holes it might be, points towards the fact that this is Diablo. There is no proof whatsoever of the opposite. Seek weaknesses and you will always find something that can be a reason for doubt.
From a scientific point of view, with the support of evidence, that is Diablo until the opposite has been proved.
Scientific view?
Hahahaha :wallbash:
Oh jesus, that's funny and idiotic simultaneously, like a Judd Apatow film. Hey buddy, ever heard of Burden of Proof? Logical fallacy? You know? No, you clearly don't.
Do you honestly think the game developers give a shit about what goes on the website?
And what the hells are you going on with this blizzard employee and guessing shit? Is English your second language? Because that's the only excuse for such poor sentence structure.
You really think that they'd tell Bashiok who the big demon is at the end of the cinematic and tell him it's ok to reveal who it is even though if Diablo was returning it'd be a huge component of the plot?
Here, I'll tell you who it is. It's Belial. One of the designers decided as an in joke, they'd design Belial's body to be structured in a feminine way. To poke fun at how women are deceptive.
Happy? Don't believe me? Don't care.
Yeah, he's barely involved with game development too. He mostly just parrots what he's told from the actual game developers.
He was on the team long before the game was even announced! He probably isn't much involved with game development, but he must know these things, otherwise, how could he reply on Battle.net Forums! In short, he knows more than you know!
Jesus, you guys just love jumping to conclusions based on paper thin "evidence"
Bashiok only knows what he's told. Like I said, if you had bothered to actually read.
If you guys want to be so scientific then the only thing you can claim to know is that Diablo is dead, and his soulstone destroyed. That is all you know for a fact. Everything else is sheer speculation, and to conclude otherwise is, as I mentioned previously, arrogant.
He's not dead huh? Ok, what makes you the authority on who and who is not dead in the world of Sanctuary? Are you Chris Metzen in disguise? Oh wait, nope.
Oh, and you know this...how?
Not that I don't believe you, I'm just being curious!
It's really not that hard to pick up on. With the 2 lesser evils having emphasis put on them in this game, you really don't think they'd uncover them early on? It's called logic.
Again...you know this how?
If you bothered reading Bashiok's posts (or anybody's for that matter) you'd see him often saying he has to ask Jay or somebody else to be able to answer a question, or to be corrected on something. Shows how involved he is with the game development, doesn't it? I don't feel like digging through his posts to find the specific posts I speak of, but they exist.
My point is, you have no proof of your claims, while my proof is valid, and it doesn't really matter what do you think about it! You're pulling these things out of your socks and claim that we are all wrong and that you're right about everything! You have a right on your opinion, like everyone else! If you don't believe that's Diablo, then don't! I care not! But don't try to force others to believe what you believe! It's obviously not working with me and Ophion, and I'm sure there are others!
Under what circumstances are your evidences classified as "valid"? They're from official sources sure, but from ones that aren't involved with the game development itself. A quote from a game developer saying it is Diablo, the Lord of Terror would be significantly more credible, believable, and "valid" than the shitsmear that resembles text of which you decided to label as "evidence"
Right now, the evidence is in support of it being Diablo. We have 3 people from Blizzard saying it's Diablo, and no one saying it isn't. Granted there are higher ups who could contradict this, and if Metzen or Jay come in and say it isn't, than we can go with that, but they haven't. Therefore we go with what we have, and that says it's Big D. The evidence is not irrefutable, but it's all the evidence we have, and a logical person follows the evidence that we have, not the evidence we don't.
I would also point out that this is fantasy. In fantasy, death is hardly insurmountable (especially in fantasy like this). How many times in any form of fantasy have heroes, villain, and anything in between come back from what we though was a permanent death? Very very many. I wouldn't say that he can't come back just yet.
BTW, nice article Dauroth. I especially like how you talked about how people could see things like those horns and see bat wings. It fits with how things are often described biblically and how they are in reality, or what things may represent in terms of horns and wings. Definitely a good read.
The fact that Tyrael tells you this moments after you finished the quest for Diablo!
Quoting Tyrael:
Praise be to the Light! You have accomplished the impossible. Diablo and Mephisto have been banished back into the Black Abyss that spawned them, and the corrupted Soulstones are no more.
Do you know what an abyss is? Here, I'll post the dictionary definition so you don't have to look it up; Abyss: A bottomless or unfathomed depth, gulf, or chasm; hence, any deep, immeasurable, and, specifically, hell, or the bottomless pit. So basically by destroying Diablo we sent him back to the place we killed him in.. Awesome.
The keyword here is Black Abyss, aka the place you're at when you're dead. A blank, seemingly infinite nothingness. Derp.
Okay, they did confirm that Azmodan and Belial will appear in this game, but they also confirmed that Diablo is in the game!
Quote from Jay Wilson:
Diablo 3 is an action role-playing game where you play the role of one of five heroes trying to save the world of humanity, we call it Sanctuary, from hideous demon invaders and ultimately Diablo.

Further proof that you never read anybody's posts.
Keyword here is ultimately. That doesn't mean that Diablo is in the initial release of Diablo 3.
Plus that quote doesn't even prove that the demon you think is Diablo is actually him, which is the entire point of my posting in this thread.
Again, go with the information we have, not the information we don't. 3 People have said that it's Diablo, and Jay Wilson says Diablo is in-game (and don't tell me it's not in the initial release, as most game developers, including Blizzard don't start working expansions until the game is at least finished as it would be bad business to put money into developing an expansion if the game doesn't do well). We have no information that says hes not in-game, nor that the demon is not him. Only things that say he is. Occams Razor therefore states that it is indeed Diablo. Give it up until you actually have something to go on, as at the moment, you have nothing.
Also, in fantasy, the Abyss can refer to many things, especially as far as Demons are concerned. Until we know more about what this Abyss is, we shouldn't rule out anything coming back from it. Diablo was there once before.
The Black Abyss from Diablo Universe is not the abyss you are referring to!
Ok then Chris Metzen, what is it?
We never actually killed Diablo! We just destroyed the body which housed his soul! When the Soulstone was destroyed, his soul returned to the place where it was spawned a long time ago, and there is nothing preventing him from coming back from there!
Ok Mr. Metzen.
The interviewer asked Jay what is the storyline of Diablo III! We are talking about Diablo III, not its expansions! It's pretty obvious, actually!
It's nice to know that you know the context Jay Wilson was speaking in despite not being present at the interview.
Not to mention, the key word that I mentioned in the post being ultimately
I know, I just wanted to show that Diablo IS coming back!
Diablo's coming back? The villain the entire series of games based in Sanctuary has focused on so far is coming back?
You must be psychic.
No, wait. You're not Chris Metzen, you're Jay Wilson! That explains everything.
The Black Abyss from Diablo Universe is not the abyss you are referring to!

Your sarcasm doesn't change anything.
Dauroth is right. He takes the quotes for what they are worth and comes to the most likely conclusion. It's a logical process.
Again, work with the information we have, not the information we don't.
Septar, I have no problem with disagreeing with the opinions and claims of others and the OP, but this is just trolling. Tons of evidence is being shown, and you respond to none of it, while saying, with little to no basis in fact, that all sources are unreliable. You are also directly and indirectly insulting the persons and opinions of other persons. This will not be tolerated.
To curve that immaturity, if you respond again in this thread, you will have some trouble to deal with, I'm thinking a temporary ban of some sort. If you take this anywhere else, expect likewise treatment.
Look, another person who can't read posts. I already debunked the so called "evidence." If you got your heads out of the depths of your rectums, you'd see that.
Apparently Diablofans is a hater of Freedom of Expression.
No surprise. This place went rapidly down the shitter after it actually got popular.
Hey Dauroth, when Diablo 3 is released, remember this thread and try to act surprised when you find out that I'm right.
It's really not that hard to pick up on. With the 2 lesser evils having emphasis put on them in this game, you really don't think they'd uncover them early on? It's called logic.
Seeing as this is an argument whether the demon in the teaser cinematic is Diablo or not, consider that Kerrigan is being shown in a lot of places for SC2. She is the iconic Starcraft villain, just as Diablo is in this series, and it makes sense to showcase both.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Oh pu-lease. That kind of whining really doesn't help you make your point. Your posts are still up unless they are particularly offensive. No one has stopped you from putting up your opinion. People just overwhelmingly disagree with you, as the evidence is against you. And no, you haven't debunked the evidence. You've called it into question, but as there is no evidence for your viewpoint and nothing that contradicts the evidence that we have, it still stands.
Oh, really quick, I seem to recall something about us seeing Belial in Act 2. Can someone confirm? I need to go pick up my wife.
Maybe Kabraxis may make an appearence? Or Astrogha? They may start some trouble up in the earlier acts? ;)Especially Astrogha in the first act with all the cultists... hmmmm

I always took the mistress of pain to be Alanna or whatever her name was - the princess of Ureh from The Kingdom of Shadows. I don't know why - but I always felt that when she (and if) she turned into her true demon form, it would be like that of the Mistress of Pain.
edit: And I'm pretty sure I know why Kabraxis has a chance of making an appearence. But I could be wrong - would you mind sending a PM explaining your thoughts?

Lol okay, yeah I pretty much thought that. I forgot he had Stormfury with him still, its been several months since I've read The Black Road. But yes yes yes, lets hope Kabraxis does return, I mean it has been approximately 20 years since his last surfacing on Sanctuary.
