If this list was based on originality it would be a decent list. If it was based on replayability this list would be absolute garbage.Mass Effect and Bioshock should have been at least top 20, and while I despise halo it still deserves a slot in the top 50 even if it was dead last.Left 4 Dead should have been in the top 10.I do agree with SotC being first however. All around great game, it didn't have much of a story line but it felt like you were living the story so it didn't matter. The visuals were so excellent that I didn't mind riding my horse for 20 minutes to get to the next boss. Every boss fight was unique and every one of them struck a chord with me. I almost felt bad killing some of them.
I have no idea how Shadow of the Colossus is #1. Seriously. And I'm not saying Diablo should be #1, but SC is definitely not 1. A great game that I own but I wouldn't put in the 1 slot.
There's my 0.02.

I find it pretty cute how so many people here are claiming "bias", and at the same time declaring D2's superiority. Hypocritical? Nobody outside of this forum would place D2 higher than it got. Go to Halo forums and they will place Halo at #1, got to WoW forums and they would do the same for their game.
Because the website went down (for me currently, at least) I don't really know what their criteria was for choosing the games. And unless you went and read through their lists and their reasons, you don't either.
So, we can only make an assumption. I see most of you harping on story as if it were the only criteria for what makes a game note-worthy. That is likely not the only thing taken into consideration. Graphics, replayability, innovation, control mastering, and mainstream acceptance are all probably important factors.
That's particularly why I am surprised Halo is not on this list. Overlooked perhaps. Halo and WoW both played the same important role: they because very mainstream. People who didn't play video games at least played a bit of Halo. And people who never touched an MMO played WoW. SotC was an incredibly innovative game. I know of no other like it, and it was widely successful. Portal brought a new (before some of you people harp on this, yes, I know the concept was from Narbacular Drop) mechanic to the videogame world, as did HL2 which had a fabulous story with it.
While I, too, think the list is total bullshit (not sure why SSB:M is so far up the list, when it spawned with it worldwide competition) I think you all shouldn't be so quick to jump on the D2#1 and everything else sucks bandwagon.

Diablo's story: Medieval warriors fight demons who break free from hell. Sorry, but the story is no more unique than WoW's.
My two cents...D2 is low top ten. We all know this. Half-life two is low top ten. I have a few problems with some of their choices though. Final fantasy 9!?!? That is easily the worst one. Having only played some of 12 and not having seen a movie and prequel made for it, id have to go with FF7 as the best, and that game, if you've played it, is top ten material. Metal gear solid 3?!?! how about metal gear solid, and thats it. If KOTOR makes top 50, then neverwinter nights 2 needs to be at least top 20, possibly removing KOTOR from the list, because it is superior in every way. moder warfare 2 has exceeded sales and play of 1 in every aspect, even in the face of a boycott. If theres gonna be a zelda, it needs to be link to the past, or possibly ocarina. Resident evil 4 was cool, but the original make a lot of people happy/scared shitless. Umm, anyone else think that even though many of the subsequent games were trash, just the legacy and awesomeness that was spawned by tomb raider deserves a spot somewhere? Agreed about super mario 64. not familiar/havent played many on the list, so i guess this is were i stop, and some FF8 fan tries to find where I live...psychos.

Actually it is.
"the plot or succession of incidents of a novel, poem, drama, etc."
You search for demons. You fight them. <- Succession of incidents.
