So, Credge, how do you know this system isn't better? Did you see it already? Did you already play with it? What's wrong with trying to make something better?
I didn't miss the analogy. I just returned your sarcasm
???
Lol im all for the change. I trust in Bliz and know hope it well be better.
like u guys have been saying, bliz hasnt really let us down when it comes to the actual game (minus the release date lol).
Bliz brings revolutionary games. Top sellers, best games. Do you think they could do this just by pumping out the same system after each other? no. Other games make cookie cutters based on bliz, not the other way around. Bliz is like a trend setter. While i do think this is just gonna take more time, and am really not happy about long waits, this actually makes me happy that this wait is brining something new. I trust bliz in that it will be epic
i would like the story behind spec alternative, where you follow class specific quests in training to learn stuff. then at the max level it becomes all unstoryline like and you can respec and experiment with skills from all different teachers.
but i cant see that working while still following a diablo act series =[
i never really liked the acts, too storybook and not enough make your own name.
I personally think there will be a tab you click that lists all of the skills. And they are all ready to use on level one. Part of making every skill useful.

forgive me. but when i fist saw this i was enraged. i mean ive growin up with skill trees. they are my friends:P but then i thought about it. when i played through diablo 2 i would save up point and at some times have 10 available.(mind you this was from lvl 1-maybe30) strange i know.
I trust blizzard!! so im going to put my faith in them to create something new. cause if they dont!!! lol
This change can't just be referring to the actual tree-structure and tree-requirements disappeareing, because we already know of that since a long time. This must be something else, some other change relating to skills on top of that.

Yeah, that's the last I heard.
But that quote suggests they've found a new one...
See? This is exactly why I do not want to create Diablo III pages for the wiki yet. Because all that work is bound to need redoing after a few months when Blizzard changes stuff. At least when we get later to release things will start to finalize.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I think this new system is execly the one they presented before. You don't have to spend points in one talent to have another, nor in one tree. You only need the level req. However for this system theres no point in organizing stuff in "skill trees" since tehres no special connection between skills. Simply choose the ones you like.
I personally think there will be a tab you click that lists all of the skills. And they are all ready to use on level one. Part of making every skill useful.
i absolutely detest this idea as it gives you no sense of lvling up and getting to more epic skills. Not only that, but there had better be a good few passive skills in the mix, because i don't want to be using 10 different skills as i play, that's just too much.

There are a lot of passives. Just look up diablo 3 skill trees on google to see them.( I think only the barbarian tree is complete)
See the problem is lets say your skill is maxed out a level 10. Well if all skills are useful at level 10 you would be overpowered for late game. Well maybe not because we don't know how fast we will level.
We need More Info to discuss this.

they said the wizard doesn't have many passives (unlike the barbarian), which makes me think how horrible it would be to use ten different skills on enemies. I get the whole make more skills useful thing, but i don't want to use every skill all the time, that'll make diablo too stressful feeling, its supposed to be simple but requires some thinking.
wow at the keyboard guy, anyhow the whole point here is that, diablo 1 while being simple easy (and part chance) was a fun skill system. and diablo 2 while new (at the time) was cool because it changed from the first game. so why shouldnt it be the same for the 3rd installment of the game.
so the keyboard guy understands,if you old house burns down are you goin to look for old material to rebuild it or are you gonna just build a new house. I would choose the latter.
blizz usually does not upset us when they bring out new content. Hence skill tree, from the skill book system.
if there changing it it is for a reason. the only thing they do is hide information from us for long periods of time.
Patch 1.13 wants to have a chat with you.
- Anywho, spell books are not that great unless a vendor sells the skills to you and you can only access certain skills at certain levels like tiers. The books in Diablo were increasingly hard to find, especially the right skill. It required massive reloading to have the witch sell you something good.
-I also don't see how this will be more customizable then a skill tree. In a skill tree you picked the skills you wanted and you got all their pre requisites. If this new system turns out you just pick what skills you want then you just get those, which in turn makes essentially the same exact character just having less skills. Could say you could do more damage or that you didn't waste any points, but then again I thought Blizzard was working mad hard on making no points wasted, so why even have a skill in the game if it is gonna be considered a wasted skill? This just tells me that they can't balance a skill tree right and fail at making skills useful beside a few selects, much like synergies in Diablo 2 they are essentially telling you what is best.
-Next is obviously that you need to level up to attain certain skills, can't have a level 1 barbarian walking around WWing everything, if you are making a WW barbarian then you are done at level 1. Thats tons of fun! What are you gonna level with if there are level req? Gonna need some skill to level, which...kinda makes a skill tree. They will probably use this system tho with level req on skills being the only thing needed to attain skills, which honestly doesn't sound that bad to me. As long as they can make all skills actually useful then I don't see why we need a tree.
There really is no telling how this will turn out. The skill system isn't nearly as important as the actual skills themselves. With the advent of respec your character could evolve in a more flexible way when combined with a no prerequisite system. It makes you think about what skill would most benefit you at your current level while taking into consideration the penalty for respec.
I would like to have skillbooks that are divided into tiers. Low, Medium, High, Master. A Low skill book levels up the skill to max 5, Medium to 10, High to 15 and Master to 20.
The only requirements for learning a skill is that your level is high enough, and that you have skill points left.
You get Low skill books by killing enemies or doing side quests in Normal. Medium books in Nightmare, High in Hell.
Bosses and Elite/Super Unique enemies drops skill books of one grade higher than normal. That means that you must kill enemies of that kind in Hell to get Master skill books.
There would be 25 side quests with skill book rewards in every difficulty. That means that you can get 5 skills to level 15 if you only do side quests (equaling 75 skill points in D2). A possible upper skill point limit could be 110 (like in D2), meaning that you have to find (or trade) 25 master skill books to max your 5 skills at level 20, and 10 Low-Medium books to get one at level 10.
You don't have to do side quests to get the skill books, you can still get them through regular farming, but side quests would always give you the skill book you want. It would also make side quests valuable in all difficulties, not only in Hell. Why would you waste your Hell High skill book to level up a level 3 skill? It would be better to save that skill book and do some Normal side quests for some Low books. Or you can buy the Low books for some gold.
You can also trade the books, meaning that you can quickly boost your new characters by buying the books. They can then skip the side quests that are so boring to repeat. The master skills books could possibly be made untradeable. So if you find a Master skill book (in a case of them beeing tradeable) that you don't need, put it on the AH and get gold for it. You will trade most skill books you find for gold that you use to buy other skills.
It would also give one nice economic side effects. Unpopular builds would obviously not be as desired, meaning that the price for the required books would be lower. So this system would encourage you to make unusual builds.
And the obvious price for respecs: You lose your skills and can't get them through side quests you have already done. You must farm skills or spend a lot of money on Master skill books.
I like the idea ! I always loved and miss book from d1 ^_^. The only thing I find a lack is : the number of book you'll find is definite by luck you have... Not a good thing... for me ! 2 person at same level must have the same number of skill, if not the balancing will be awful. Unfair for the one who have less of luck, he'll need to do all side quest to offset the inequality.
How to prevent the people who will redo always a boss (runs) to got infinity books?
There was a book system in D1... and even tho the book system could be dif in d3. It would end up like they just improved the D1 skill system. So i doubt the skills will have ne thing to do with books, or very little. Like stated b4 bliz is a ground breaking trend setter. This should be something new and exciting.
I'm still hoping for skills that lvl as you use them. It always made more since to me. There could be a way that you have to have skill A at a lvl 15 then skill B to a lvl 10 to unlock skill C. But then you would still run into all the skill lvl boters and ppl would complain about having to use a skill just to get to the skill they want. Ive always liked this system tho.
I think we all will be surprised. But a poll could still be fun.

You have to put a point into Holy Bolt, not Sacrifice, to get Blessed Hammer. Sacrifice is the prereq for Zeal.
