‘I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL WE ALL HAVE AIDS!’—The importance of calling them ‘mercenaries.’

They said they had tried to combine western and eastern monk culture for this one. For example, the beard and bald head is very western, while the fighting and clothing is more eastern.
But to be honest, what did western monks do that made them badass? Drinking beer and living in solitude? They were pussies.
Yeah, I honestly don't see what would be cool about playing a Western monk. Maybe they could knock demons out by swinging those scented incense burner things on a chain. But they're pretty lame in almost every way.
I don't see any Western monk in this guy anyway, the beard + baldness struck me as Middle Eastern when I first saw it... so its interesting to hear that they tried to include Western monk culture.
A lot of people seem to be obsessed with the Diablo universe needing to have a Western medieval feel, probably cos of Act 1 in D2. What's with that? I think it's good that there's some variety, without going too far of course.
so before the gameplay video went up, you are complained and whined and talked bad about blizzard, but now that it is up you are all <3333333333333333333333333333
Well think its cool with the monk class, but i really dont think the quality of the trailer is something you would expect from blizzard.. Maybe just me, but they usually makes a lot prettier cinematic movies..
It's not, like, an act cinematic. It's just a trailer using the in-game models...
When I watch the monk gameplay trailer and the individual skill mini-videos, then go back and watch the other classes, somehow there's something about the animations and subtle screen shakes that gives the monk a totally brutal feel.
And watching the wizard doing her stuff seemed kind of tame in comparison. I dunno, I'm sure with more powerful high level skills + improving the animations over the next year or so they'll all feel really strong, but just thought I'd put that out there. Does anyone get that impression?
I'm not saying I think the monk will be more powerful, just that watching him looks awesomely brutal. It definitely makes me want to play monk first.
The monk looks awesome. I wanted to see a character that was similar to a pally and we got him. He looks like a pally crossed with a assassin. To all the people complaining about the pally type class coming in the game... they must of got sick of getting pwned by pallies in Diablo 2.
They need classes similar to all the old ones so all the old players of the old ones will be pleased.
The monk is not overdone either. I only played a few mmo that they have a monk in.
Whoever said Monks dont punch and that would make him a ninja is dead wrong. Ninja use Katana and throwing stars and in most games Monks punch. Go play Final Fantasy Tactics and look at the difference between monk and ninja... Monk punch and ninjas use weapons.
I love how he can use his fists and hes holy as well. I am just hoping they give him Fist of the heavens type move and all will be awesome :).
I think the further they work on the game, the better they get at stitching together tight animations and see what works and what does not, so naturally the class gameplay videos will improve with each new class they introduce. Ofcourse they will go back and improve the first ones in the end aswell to get em up to snuff.
Also, as mentioned in the panel last night, the wizard is most likely to get a revamp (possibly even a name change), to be more like a freaking lightshow as their initial goal with her was
Yeah, that sounds true, I'm sure they'll all look equally awesome in the end. And I read about the proposed wizard revamp, trust Blizzard to care that much I wonder what the new name will be... If it hasn't started already, there's gonna be so much speculation about it even though the change isn't confirmed...

I think I should clarify this; the wizard is NOT getting a revamp and is NOT getting a name change. They did change her skill stone armor to look more like a light show. Instead of looking like rocks it now looks like shinning crystals. Therefore they said they might change the name of the skill now.
Red Rocks posted the panels, or you could probably find them on youtube by now, if you watch them they say in the panel. I have the live feed and I did look at our live chat and it was mistakenly put down that the Wizard will get a revamp and name change. This is not the case though.

As I look at the Monk's page on the official website, I see that he's influenced a lot by the old Assassin with his charge-up type of martial arts skills.
I'm just wondering though, why are people saying that he also has some Paladin in him? I think someone said he has a Zeal attack but what other Paladin influences are present because I can barely see any.
I, for one, am excited about the Monk class. Trading defense for speed is more my style anyway, and a cross between a paladin and an assassin?! <3 Sinadin

We've seen a nice combination of archetypes thus far.
Barbarian - Pure Melee with Tank elements(with some ranged to keep it slightly balanced)
Witch Doctor - Summoner // Debuffer
Wizard - Pure Caster
And finally,
Monk - Speed Class // Sacrificing defense for speed & power
The thing all of these classes have in common is that they are great at both point blank and ranged distances. Because of that, I have my doubts as to if we'll be seeing a pure range class. We've seen from the gameplay videos that each class thus far can hold their own in an all out brawl. To be honest, my vote is that the fifth class could be any man's (or woman's) guess.
If I had to guess? I'd guess something a bit more borderline neutrality. Something that doesn't stray too far from evil or good. Not the NEcromancer, but something dark in nature.

well, the barbarian could.
since melee oriented classes can always use a bow to draw a mob to it then hack it to pieces or shoot at it until it comes into melee range
that's what i do in MMOs anyway

Yeah, the desert looks quite amazing...
Nah... I believe they did say it could be possible for classes to return in the expansion.
I can't quite remember, but I'm pretty sure they said there wouldn't be any returning in the stand alone game.

worse than mmo-c I tell you......

I'm sure the act cinematic will be glorious.
now the 5th class has to be some kind of ranged weapon based character. at least thats what i hope, but they havent let me down yet!

FOH really should make a appearance.
