If you guys have not seen the videos on blizzard.com about the monk, you should totally get on it. Its nothing like any monk I've ever seen before in any other RPG/CORPG/MMORPG. For all the haters, this one looks wicked and has a sick skill set with awesome effects.
What worries me is that we still need another ranged class and none of the mellee classes seems to be designed to use shields a lot.
I proposed this idea in the "Official Ranged Class Idea Contest" thread:
Quote from "Krylon" »
The "Guardian" Class
The Guardian is kind of a mix between the Paladin and the Amazon with some Druid-ness thrown into it.
The current D3 classes don't have a lot of weapon variety, but the Guardian could use bows, crossbows, javelins, throwing knives, swords, clubs, shields, etc.
It wouldn't be a very "Holy" class (since we have the Monk now) but a bit of a mix between an armored knight and an archer.
Skill Trees: Nature: Auras and nature-magic skills, possibly summons Defense: Shield techniques, traps, and other defensive skills Range: Bow skills, throwing weapon skills, etc.
The Guardian is a formidable opponent that can quickly adapt to his situation. He has many skills at his disposal while he has distance between him and his enemy, but when his enemies get close he can still protect himself while dealing some serious damage.
While I don't think this EXACT idea will come to fruition, I believe Blizzard is probably toying around with something similar. Although we won't actually know for another year...
I was iffy at first, but got to watch the dev panel and see the vids and I think it looks like the monk will be a solid class. Remember too that we don't even know the trees yet, like we have gotten from the other classes; so we can't really know how the building process will work. I imagine one tree will have to do with combos, maybe one a combination of defensive and AOE stuff, the third no idea.

i think blizz make The Avenger.
is a mix of ranger and paladin.
I can't wait to see the full skill trees of the Witch Doctor and the Monk.... not to mention updated versions of Wizard and Barbarian (Tier 5 Skills).
Man... this character makes me want to be able to run two characters at the same time. I really want to play the Barbarian. *Dualwields Lightning axes* Yet I want to play the Monk... *Activates Seven Sided Strike on one boss* *huge explosion*
Ugh... now that I think about it, I want to play the Wizard too.
Dammit.

It's 3am. rain. thunder, lightning. silence. silence. thunder. wind, howling wind. pricks of sound the rain makes. slowly. as it trickles down your roof. behold the solemn nature. behold the beauty of the storm.
i know why people say about healer class...
but guys... this is not World Of Diablo... nether MMO.
diablo 1 and 2 no need healer class at all. why D3 will need?
no healer class, please, is just a waste of skills. My opnion.
I think the monk is lame. I really don't like the beaded necklace and the hand combat. I was really hoping for some kind of darker class to be set apart from the rest.
Well unless the Monk comes with some sort of party healing abilities we still need a healer.. So my bet is it's going to be a mix between a druid/ranger with nature based healing skills.. Or a paladin/ranger mix with healing abilities and aura's
Bashiok said some time ago that they were not planning a "healing" class or a class which would major in healing, although some skills of some of the characters would obviously be characterized as buffing. A whole class for it or a whole tree? No, I don't think so. A few skills here and there among the whole character selection? Maybe, probably likely.
There are bloody healing globes and potions - there is no need for a healing class that no one really wants to play.
I, for one, think the gameplay videos of the Monk look amazing. I think that out of all of the 4 characters they've really nailed the perception of him being powerful with his skills. They just look and sound badass.
He looks like a total fucking badass.
Giant beads, giant staff, and a giant beard.
Sadly, I cannot watch the gameplay video till I get better internet...
*sobs*
Well for you to know about the gameplay vid...he has sweet ass skills like Zeal but with his fists and another skill that he quickly moves (almost teleporting) to a certain number of bad guys melee'ing them.

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
He would probably strike one opponent 2-3 times then move onto another opponent strike him 2-3 times and he moves onto another opponent and strikes him 2-3 times and he keeps doing this till he struck seven opponents.
