i know what you mean, it wouldn't be the 1st time blizzard copy pasted some characters into some scenery (remember screenshots on the back of D1 cover? )
Haha, yep. I miss the days of D1 ^_^.
The one screennshot on the back of it was so ... shitty.
Had like the sorcerer and the warrior beating the shit out of some skellies with a fire wall.. looked pretty welfare.
Loved that game though ^^.
Can't beleive I actually remember that screenshot so well though, good ol' photographic memory doing its thing again..

..and it's all downhill from there. I don't know. The hounds, lunatics, and overseers are okay additions I guess, but why? I don't need any more types of fallen really, I'd rather see other new enemies, and have them be mixed up. Also, how many bursting fat guys does the game need?
They're also a bit damn bright. But so is everything I guess.
Another thing, the page mentions them being bright red.. we sure seem them bright red.. does any of this mean that we won't be seeing any different colored versions of them? I liked being able to see a few different colored variants on them, and then once you're out of act I you don't really see them again.
I mean, with all this time they're spending fleshing them out with new types of fallen, are they going to try to have different levelled versions appear throughout the game? Or have they gone to this much trouble on the enemies further in the game as well?
I don't know, I'm speculating too much, happy to see an update though.

I made this post in the other Fallen Update thread but since the 2 threads seem evenly split and have yet to be combined, I figured I would post this here as well just so as many people as possible can see what i'm expecting with the overall detail on the models plus design changes to come.

I agree with some that are stating art style is basically the complete oposite direction as the in-game models. That being said, they look pretty bad. However, SCII has gone through this process a bunch and made MASSIVE upgrades to the first models they had in the game.
If these are anything to go by with how Blizzard goes about development these days and this same process happens with Diablo III, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
Either way, while not the greatest of updates, am glad to have one and damn surprised they showed anything before Blizzcon.
I have faith Blizzard will overhaul the living hell out of the game as time goes by just like with SCII and that Diablo III will be one of the best games of the decade.
Oh and lol Azmodan, funny bastard:P
Sorry for posting this twice in advance, however I think it will help in calming many people down about the models currently in-game.
Yes! Oh my god I love it! Bodies hanging from trees is just tops, I am so excited to see them.
I am also very glad that they have included Azmodan in some more lore too. That guy is so neglected.
Ah ! I loved the corpse in the trees !!!
Feels SO diablo, I really like that last screenshot, the fallen mesh in perfectly and the shading is pretty great.
Same about Azmodan, I'm really glad they're finally adding some lore for him.
Only time I ever recall hearing about him was back in the first Diablo, I came across some random book and it talked about the sin war.
For anyone who hasn't played Diablo, get it, there's a lot of interesting lore in that game.

well, I took as granted the presence of fallen in D3.
They have always been in diablo world and always will be, I think.
I like the idea to have many kinds of them and hope there will be the two more kind as hinted in their page.
Considering Blizzard, I'd say no, its not guaranteeing anything. Remember that they released concept art for one of the Amazon islands, and then they specifically stated that we won't be visiting the Amazons in Diablo III. Its just them establishing background lore stuff, but I certainly hope Azzy will make it in.
im sayin azmodan is the lord of sin. sounds alot tougher than lies. but ya same here infact it was like 3 days ago i ran by a tome and it mentioned azmodan and belial in the sin wars and stuff in that narrative voice thing
those fallen are truly kick a## and that entire fallen family tree rocks! long live blizzard and its actually nice to see an older monster making such a fresh entry!

Well its taken Blizzard a long time to introduce something new on the D3 site, so Im glad that it finally happened. I was starting to get worried there. Im also glad to see that the Fallen have returned, even though they were extremely annoying in Diablo 2. Hopefully next will be a character update...? Ive been waiting since February for them to introduce at least one new character, and got my hopes up on April Fools day when I saw that they had posted a new one. As soon as I clicked on it and saw the skills, I realized this was an April Fool joke. Good job Blizzard, you got me!
Ofcorse, because they wanted the fallen to become stronger when you advance further into the game. And they obviously had to change the appearance a bit too so they just changed the colors.
Well yeah. And I hope they do the color changes in DIII as well.
I'm just saying maybe Smudge had a point, and the color choices weren't just arbitrary for a need to make a new color, but maybe it had something to do with where they were located.

One wonders if the concept artists and 3D artists communicate.
I can see where you're coming from, although I wouldn't go so far as to say the models are Disney, but the concept are is so damn good it makes the in game models look like nothing
Although its inevitable

Also worth noting that the fallen in Diablo II are dark (black) under the monastary.
So, I think it's a legitimate gripe, you could argue a case that the color of the fallen ones was at least somewhat based on their location.

Yet the models are downright Disney, apart from the Hound.
One wonders if the concept artists and 3D artists communicate.
