Bashiok recently responded to a question on the Battle.net forums about whether or not full immunity would be in Diablo 3. Here's what he had to say:
"Jay has said, and I don't have exact quotes so I'm going to put it into my own words, that full immunities aren't something we're looking to have in Diablo III right now.
He added though that as we plan for people to have a good amount of active abilities at their disposal, there may not be the issue of having say... a Wizard with only ice damage spells late in the game where immunities would normally be seen.
So if we were to have immunities, but also a broad range of abilities with various damage types ensured to be available, it would be more a situation of the player just needing to intelligently use the different spells they have. At that point it becomes a method of injecting strategy into approaching a fight. The spell variety and build potentials, or rather limitations in this case, remain to be seen to some degree.
I think if we can determine that players will always be able to damage a monster regardless of immunities, then they remain a possibility. More than likely though, if I had to guess at this point, you'll see resistances to specific spell types rather than full immunity."
Kinda sounds like a bit of a return to Diablo 1, where creatures are immune to one element, but possess only some resistance to the other elements. That sounds good.

This will only work if they are not immune to something. Or at best resistance to it.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Full immunity to one element on all monsters is more annoying than difficult. Monsters can easily be made challenging without being immune, so I won't be upset if they don't have it in Diablo 3.
I don't understand how giving a monster an immunity was fun in LoD, SP speaking. I have a Bonemancer..good luck killing a magic immune in Hell. If there aren't enough corpses around to use Corpse Explosion, which may or may not kill the monster..I'm F'd in the A, and have to resort to an editor. I hope this isn't brought back in D3.
Full immunity is just plain obnoxious, I feel if it is something that a player cannot reach (full immunity) it shouldn't be something a creature can gain unless it reasonably would naturally have a resistance to it. (a fire demon probably wouldn't care how many balls of fire you hurled at it, unless of course they are literally "balls on fire".)
Resistancemakes more sense than anything, I feel knowing which spells and attacks and equipment to use on which monsters is part of the game. I remember stocking up on freeze resistant armor when going up against Duriel(I HATED that guy). I know those kind of attacks were coming so i prepared.
again it sounds a lot like hellgate london and the evoker class.. which was often very difficult to play because you had so many different skills (all used in different situations) that all needed a hotkey.. and the user interface was never very friendly.
i think that a versatile character with many different active skills will be great as long as they make sure the user interface caters to it. (meaning you can toggle between hotbars easily and/or swap skills to the mouse click etc)

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.

Good to hear immunities wont be as prominent as they were in D2 they annoyed the piss outta me!!! Trying to get hell den done with a FB sorc in hell was BRUTAL, thank god there wont be anymore of that
Sounds good to me so far. What do you think?

I'm happy about this bit, though. I hated immunes- so unfair for casters.

I agree with this, no immunities

I'm prefectly fine with no full immunes.
I agree with you on high munes.
Lol, funny post.
I'm actually upset at the people who don't. They've done good the first 2 times, trust them this time.
But, good news. Immunities are breaking game rules, especially the crazy magic physical super fast thingies...
You weren't happy at all? I will respect that.
Maybe 'immunities' should be deleted from Blizzards dictionary altogether.
