Did you people not read the character page? The Wizard name was chosen very carefully apparently, there's a whole segment on how it's the uncouth magicians who use magic for they're own ends are not worthy to be called civilized sorcerers, instead they're branded Wizard.
Oh, and in the modestly cinematic class trailer... did anyone else notice the the skeleton king seemed almost exactly like King Leoric (you know, the giant skeleton king you killed) from Diablo 1?

Yeah totally like Leoric.
At first I was like, Wizard... wtf. But after reading up on it I can see why it was chosen. And after seeing the gameply vid, then the trailer, i am totally sold. Meteor, chain lightning kick ass. The slow time is kick ass, and one where she split into several version of herself. Totally awesome. Looked dark and gloomy... looking really good now.
I would say 'I told you so', but I can't find my post that said that probably a arcane/elementalist wizard would come out, but I guess that many people foresaw that too.
She seems pretty cool in the gameplay video. She also had a lot of melee magics so playing a wizard didn't look like a weak-stay-away-from-crowds char.
Not really a fan of the gameplay video... Its cool and all, I just wish Jay would have talked throughout it like the first one and Id hoped the UI was up... ah well...
Question: Is there a way to download the Wizard gameplay video (not the shorter trailer) to my computer for maximum quality? I didn't seem find a source for that.

Yeah, I want a copy of this video as well. I only for the trailer so far :(.
Yea most definately the protoss mother ship is the one they "copied". Very awesome though, and how they integrate all these skills with the physics engine...
Well since D3 has been in the works for sooo long (most likely before SC2) Its very probable that SC2 "copied" off of D3. I think

Blizzard takes ideas from everywhere in their own universe and even elsewhere. I mean cmon some of the abilities in Frozen throne as pullouts from DotA- Rogue final tier ability in the Combat tree is literally Juggernaut's Omnislash - but its awesome - so less qq and more pew pew i says.
The class trailer is hilariously cheesy, beyond even the Lord of Destruction intro, but the class itself appeals to me. Visually, the female's model seems perfect and the male concept art is promising.
What I wonder is if most of the Wizard's spells are elemental or if there is enough 'pure' magic like Disintegrate, Magic Missile, Teleport, and Slow Time to potentially do without crude elements.

‘I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL WE ALL HAVE AIDS!’—The importance of calling them ‘mercenaries.’
hmm did they not say that the barbarian was the only returning class? The WIZARD(harry potter? HOMM?) is the sorc just with an amazingly ugglier name! Happy it is in though!
Yeah? And the Witch Doctor is just the Necromancer. These archetypes are, mechanically and conceptually, inescapable. The notion of classes returning or not returning is a point of lore. The Witch Doctor isn't called a Necromancer because the word 'Necromancer' in this setting refers only to a specific group of priests who dwell beneath a specific jungle, obsessed with 'balance' in a very dark manner, while the Witch Doctor seems intended to be parodic. In the same vein, the Wizard isn't called a Sorcer(er/ess) because that refers to members of the Vizjerei or Zann Esu clans, while this character is intended to be an independent prodigy.

Although I'm scathing mad about the new developments I'm hearing about other aspects of this game, I will say I do like the look of "The Wizard."
The name kind of makes you cringe, much like "The Witch Doctor" but as I can now see, Blizzard is pretty much beating multiple dead horses because they're running low on creative ideas
The class looks like an overall improvement over the classic Sorc. I do really like the animation for teleport and the renamed chain lightning. I really like that lightning actually fires like lightning should in that it is very fast moving unlike it was in Diablo 2.
It looks like the Wizard will be a decent class. Hopefully Blizzard can be a wee bit more creative when they announce the Archer/Spear class, and the replacement Paladin class.
Honestly though, "All new classes" doesn't mean you take a preexisting class, rename it, and give it a few new spells to make it "new"
haha yeah not a very original name but so far looks like the class im going to be using. looks pretty cool, but wtf is with the skill called 'epic storms' can't those geeks think of a better name.
lol, they need to hire a poet or something for some of the ability names.
it sounds basic at first, but the sorcerer/ess has been part of diablo since the beginning, and this is sort of a rebellious style of sorcerer/ess, which is a cool idea. Using magic that is supposed to be forbidden helps out the idea of how the character is supposed to feel powerful playing that class
