Project XII has written a great article on Hellforge entitled "Beauty or Brawn - Have You Got the Baals?". It's an article on sexuality and gender in role-playing games, and how it relates to Diablo III.
It’s the question asked since the beginning of time; even before Abraham turned to Jesus and said “Dude, if you could be a chick, who would you be?” (to which Jesus replied “Angelina Jolie of course. Duh.”). It’s the reason Shakespeare wrote “the Tempest”, and went on to direct “The Crying Game”. The ultimate in X and Y bending enigmas: Why do gamers choose the genders they do?
I have nothing against girl characters but im always a guy no matter what unless forced to be girl which i was in d2 love sorceress lol magic rules also love well all the classes but what im saying is i want my character to reflect me as in what i would do and how i would look (closest way anyways lol)
I saw a guy said that his mother would ban him from using a computer if she saw he chose a female avatar.
Anyway, I'm definitely a protector. My brother and I, for a while, would do mf runs and give the drops out on thursday night in games called "Gimko." We gave all the drops . . Kira's Guardian, Black Hades, Rainbow Facet. . if hell Baal dropped it, we did too. We did about 7 - 9, but stopped because it was too hard.
I also think it's a reason I wanted random PvP in D3. While I never, ever pk'd somebody, it was fun trying to protect the low levels against the PK'ers.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
Typically, I go male characters. Unless the classes/characters are gender locked like Diablo 1 and 2 or premade NPCs like in Warcraft III (the Hero units) or Baldur's Gate, or the class seems better suited to the female gender, most "mage" or "spell caster" classes usually are. Female "Warrior" types seem to butch. Amazon was fine as she was ranged based, as opposed to in yer face melee, like an Orc or Tauren Warrior.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I think that I am most like the protector, but with a little twist. When I play the game I feel like I am "creating" the character, I like to give it a purpose and a meaning and take extra care when selecting the name! So the sex will really depend upon what build I am going with and what "personality" I want the character to have. For example, I will probably neglect using a Female Barbarian, because the personality I attach to the Barbarian is male. But if I were to build a singer (I know the skills are going to be changed, but it still may be possible!) I would probably consider the Female.
In the case of the Witchdoctor. For a disease spreader I would probably go male and for fire female. It all depends on how I want the character to feel.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
Wow, that was probably one of the stupidest articles I have ever read from that site. The author was either a 13 year old boy, or still lives with his mom. He pretty much tried to stereotype every gamer's opinion on gender, while he himself was a living example of why people think gamers can't get laid.
I'm sorry, it was just painful to read.
Gender doesn't matter in games unless it's your only source for the opposite sex. I wish they would just auto assign gender to classes like in D2 and have it come out earlier.

You fail to understand the author. Go flame somewhere else.
I mostly play female characters...hey, if im going to be staring at the ass end of a character for hours....it should at least be aesthetically pleasing.

Im too lazy to think of something of significant meaning to put here.
I see myself more like a roleplaying protector.
I really tend to help people while playing, I even give my cube for a 6lvl sorceress.
I'm always writing things like:"!Die" or something while in dungeons.
I think it's like a tabletop RPGer curse.
I found that read prerty good. Idk what I am. I can be all at some times. I dont really care about gender but I do like the storyline thats what will really move me in d3. Im obsesed with the storyline in diablo I'll have every type of char imaginable (unless they put a limit on how many chars you can have) I will have all sorts of diffrent types of skills and moves and combinations and be like HELL YEA I DONT CARE WHAT THE BEST BUILD IS........yet

I usually just play a gender based on how cool they look (or will eventually look).
Something like the Barbarion (since he's a buff beast) or Witch doctor (since he's humpbacked) I would play as males.
I think that the character model is the biggest factor for me. I use a lot of WoW examples because I used to play so much, but many of the charcters I would play started male, then were re-created to female. All the night elves basically had beards which I didn't like so I made a female and there you go. Better character design, unique details and voice responses, no beards.
Writing a degrading joke on Jesus/Religion in an article is just lame, somehow it's becoming the 'hip' thing to do in order to increase your e-penis. If it were instead a racist joke or a jab against Black People or Asian's (not a racist here) the whole internet would frown and the article would not have made it on diablofans.com's front page.
Not many come out and just say it but yes I'm religious. I know it's the internet and yes, I know there will be a flood of mighty keyboard warriors getting a hardon right about now; ready to flame me for even saying my piece but fuck it.
it depends really. As an example i'll say the classes i chose in WoW:
Mage: Female
Rogue: Female
Warrior: Male
Hunter: Male
Paladin: Male
i tend to choose male for healer or brutish force kind of people. As a hunter i could only think of a male to create but i cant quite reason it.
I think that article was completely pointless and a waste of my reading time. Who cares who you decide to play? There are no groups. People play the characters they like best and generally randomly select the gender. Doesn't make them any less or more straight, or gay in any fashion. Some writers just really don't have any subjects to write about I guess.... and that goes for ALL of the articles posted in the news here from hellforge. They ALL are pointless, poorly written, full of typos with misuse of words and sayings, and look as if written by a 5 year old. No diss here, just pointing out that I see no reason why these "crap" articles seem to be news-worthy and on the main page of diablofans.com... I'd suggest only posting articles that have a real point and purpose. Not some crap "filler" content some kid clearly threw togethor while he was desperate for a topic to write about.

I don't understand the hate. It's no N'Gai Croal, but it's certainly no 'worse' than the stuff Brian Crescente writes over at Kotaku. It's mostly funny, jock type humor. And maybe some people don't get that, but that really comes down to personal preference.
Besides, last I checked, we're fans of the game and we cover interesting articles that spur discussion.
Many people make the choice of their gender in games an important issue, especially during character creation. There are a myriad of reasons behind this, and while some people just don't care, the millions of people who play World of Warcraft or any other game with a gender choice in it do so for reasons that can range from something as simple as preferring the armor on a male character to something as psychologically complex (relatively speaking) as pretending to be a female to get preferential treatment from other players.
