Bashiok confirmed the piece of artwork shown in the latest media update is indeed Skovos Isle, but it won't be a place we will visit in Diablo 3. From the looks of it, probably the expansion? Skovos is the homeland of the Amazon class in Diablo II.
As we know, the only returning playable class is the Barbarian. However, Jay Wilson recently suggested some classes could return in the Diablo 3 expansion pack.
Bashiok: It is Skovos, and I think this piece was something that Leonard showed and discussed at the WWI Lore and Environment Art panel.
It isn't a location that you'll visit in Diablo III, but the artwork is a good example of the work and thought going in to fleshing out the world of Sanctuary. It's already a very complex world with a lot of locations and events, but a lot of it still isn't visually or contextually realized. As we want to create the feeling of a world outside of your immediate view it's important to create or expand upon the locations and stories of that world.
As we're working to create Diablo III we're also working to create a more visually complete Sanctuary
"You have already grasped that Sisyphus is the absurd hero. He is, as much through his passions as through his torture. His scorn of the gods, his hatred of death, and his passion for life won him that unspeakable penalty in which the whole being is exerted toward accomplishing nothing. This is the price that must be paid for the passions of this earth. Nothing is told us about Sisyphus in the underworld. Myths are made for the imagination to breathe life into them."
I thought expansion packs were a perversion upon fans? Isn't saying "we know you want it, but we won't include it in the ship game so we can sell an expansion" sorta... underhanded? I love Blizzard and I trust them better than that, but it does seem like a trend.
Anyway from what I gathered from this video, Skovos is an Island where a secluded society known as the Iskari lives (not sure of spelling). This society was apparently built by an Angel and her lover who is actually human and they are also the ancestors of both the Rogues and the Amazon.
Come on just a month and a couple of days before Blizzcon
I'm really not keen on seeing artwork of things I will not get to see. Skovos looks awesome, I am hugely bummed we cannot go there (yet).
Putting it there to show it has some connection with the lore of a class in d3, sure that is great. But I want to go to all the homelands of the classes, I want to go to the necromancer underground city (possibly with a necromancer but any one would do), Sescheron (possibly with a Druid), Westmarch, Tur Dura (possibly with a Barbarian).

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
With Ureh and Zayl present in the game, it's pratically guaranteed that we'll see an Underground Necromancer city.
Jay said that there would be more than one town per act and that we would get to have some nice surprise and seeing that Caldeum is pretty close to Ureh...
it will be nice to see them bring back some D2 classes for the expansion. some classes should have a apart in D3 to me mainly the necro since they follow what they call the balance so any sort of shift they should be there to make everything right again.

Maybe its a hint to Diablo 4 or a movie... but don't quote me on it. I think that its nice that eventhough its not in the game being able to see how places look instead of a writen discription.

After DIII, we'll see Skovos Isle in next MMORPG Diablo game called "World of Sanctuary"
Why do you think Diablo is going to be a MMORPG? Diablo as a MMORPG is not needed cuz Blizz already has one (WoW) plus you already play a single character that you can upgrade and your do missions. Diablo is good with storyline which MMO's don't have. MMO's just have small quest than leads to nothing. Diablo (even though people after beating the game continues)has quests that actually leads to the end of the game.

Man i don't like MMORPGs too and i don't ever want a diablo game as MMORPG.But WOW is becoming really older and Blizz want to use new franchise for their new next gen MMORPG.I'm sure after the news about there will be no randomized outdoors in DIII (new timeline, complete story, static world of sanctuary etc.) All of these point only one thing.Teen rated MMORPG called "World of Sanctuary".After D3 and probably one expansion the next game will be WOS as new next-gen MMORPG.
Blizzard is hiring for their top secret next-gen mmo...It looks quite certain that top secret game will be WOS.
Can we not start another one of these stupid and childish MMO arguments? Don't worry about it, what happens happens, and no one knows what Blizzard is doing. No one. I don't care what "facts" you may or may not have.
i hope they don't make WoS, they should just make a new game series. ScarCraft, WarCraft, and Diablo are fine the way they are (I understand why they made WoW but still perfer the controling unit style WarCraft). Make a new series will give Blizzard an easier time with doing what ever they want.

I know what they are doing. They were making pc/mac games the last time i remember and i don't think it changed...
Activison + Blizzard + nextgenMMO known + blizzcon == World of Tony Hawk Guitar Hero of Duty
note: the Warcraft 3 team made WoW, (with the addition on moar people, they started the second TFT was finished)
blizzard won't hire completely new designers (lead for that matter) on a franchise that already exist, they would just tell the d3 or sc2 people to get started on the new MMO, but seeing as both sc2 and d3 teams need to make an exp before they get to make a MMO, WoTHGHoD it is
I make it serious because prior to the Diablo III announcement I was flamed incessantly for believing that Diablo III would not be an MMO, and because anytime this is started people are serious about it.

The real reason Blizz would most likely not make it an MMO is that it would threaten WoW directly as opposed to just slightly as an RPG such as Diablo does. I really doubt they'll ever make Diablo an MMO, they've already stated they would rather make expansions as opposed to new games, so that rules a WoW 2 out, at least for now, and I'm pretty sure they know a Diablo MMO would piss a lot of ppl off so my guess is a new MMO would be either something new or Starcraft, which wouldn't be that far out of the question as their current MMO is based on an RTS. It simply wouldn't be worth it, imo, to make something thats already an RPG into simply a different kind of RPG, people would simply either switch over to it who were already playing the RPG or be pissed that they changed it, it wouldn't really attract anyone new. Sorry for that long post not relating to the original topic, but it just annoys me when people go on about this whole ZOMG WORLD OF DIABLO thing.

was kidding man.you were so serious.like saying" no one knows, no one".The games for fun u know.No need for serious arguements.
MMO was my opinion i believe it will be real in time. That's all.
