Blizzard has released a timeline of the Diablo Universe which provides a chronological background for the history of Sanctuary for those who are geeky about lore.
Triune Cultist sounds like a member of Opus Dei. Ritualistically inflicting pain on themselves. Cool.
hmm city built into a mountain on an island
Yeah, that is Skovos. The Capitol of the Amazon Islands (now renamed Skovos Islands).
Time line seems very imcomplete, not just because it is missing every that happened in the Sin War, which Blizzard has confirmed is canon, but where is Marius freeing Baal?
And wasn't Mephisto caught in the Desert and later moved to Kurast?
Diablo is defeated. His Soulstone is destroyed, along with Mephisto's, upon the Hellforge.
But Thank god for that. I am sick to bloody death of saying that. I sorry but you kinda have to either not seen the cinematics at all or just not paid attention to not know that.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
yay! i so love dialup... oh wait there we have a background... no wait it froze again... yay!
Awesome thread, by the way. it's good that blizz is takin their time releasing/adding things like this. It means they're workin real hard on D3;)
Well it could easily not be a mine. That's just the immediate reaction I had to the image. And that guy standing over it, he could be the mine's overseer if it's a slave pit.
It even reminds me a bit of Samurai Champloo episode Cosmic Collisions where that supposed descendant of the Heike family is excavating buried treasure and he watches his underlings from above.

That would make sense but I don't see any tents, shacks, machinery, carts, tools, anything around so I don't know.
The man looks more magely than overseerish to me. Like a wizard or something similar.
Media galleries have also been updated with four new pieces of artwork and four new screenshots.
Thanks for the heads up, AlaskanFireDragon

Siaynoq's Playthroughs
Lol. Reminds me of the Sarlacc pit from Star Wars.

Siaynoq's Playthroughs
Yeah but the guy with the staff standing on the rocks overlooking it seems kind of out of place if it's just a mine.
Seems like we're on the same page, I just made a post in the lore section about it.

I was thinking about that but it looks pretty different from the one in the cinematic and the surrounding area looks more desert like.
It does kind of look like Deckard though.
There's a strange mage looking guy standing on a rock in the second artwork. Strange, maybe he's conjuring that sandstorm or whatever it is.
Siaynoq's Playthroughs
Yeah. It looks pretty desert oriented though compared to what Arreat Crater should look like I'd think.
Of course it could of been a early rough concept of it.
That happens in the gameplay, the locusts turn the zombies into skeletons by eating all the flesh off.
