Dude, did you miss the part where he said that they went through iterations with the darker and grittier look and it just wasn't that fun to play? Also he mentioned that 1/3 of the team is people that worked on Blizzard North and when u take into account that the whole current team now is satisified with the art direction, what does that tell u?
Not fun to play according to Jay. I think Jay Wilson is defending his direction, I think the Blizzard North team wants to keep their jobs. You really don't expect them to bite the hand that feeds them do you? I started my career in IT doing tech support for Adobe and have enough experience over the years with AutoCAD, Studio Max, Bryce, and Lightwave to buy his pitch that the darkness wasn't working.
I know the art direction isn't changing, but I will speak my mind anyways.
Politics are bad enough in IT, I'm so glad I shifted direction towards the engineering side, artist politics are twice as bad.
it is astonishing how the people that do not like the new art style can still keep on fighting. It has been decided. Just live with it. Btw, I think that it is arrogant and egotistic and childish to complain. I mean, I do realise that all of you haters have worked in the computer games making companies for decades and know everything there is to know but still...
so you're saying that Jay Wilson and Michael Morhaime should take a stroll down the beach and ask every person about his/her opinion on Diablo 3 or any elements it has and then do it the way all those people said? Imagine the havoc...
I'll say it again for GP I know the art direction isn't changing, but I will speak my mind anyways. I'm not sure why so many on these boards think it would be chaotic to know what the fans wanted before they started. Market research isn't that hard to do, getting a pulse on your customer is good. Businesses frequently fail because they lose touch with their customers wants.
When I was at Adobe they did it all the time, they would announce a product and list it's features before ever writing a single line of code. Then they would wait for the response, if favorable they would create the product and adjust the features based on response. If the response was poor they wouldn't make the product at all. This also helped an old former roommate of mine retire early and wealthy in sports nutrition by doing essentially the same thing, he was very happy to sell EAS and MRI.
The problem is that people don't spend half the time complimenting the game than they do criticizing it. It really gets annoying. I can accept that the art isn't your cup of tea, but don't go around calling it a piece of shit just because you think it "looks like WoW" or "it's all fuzzy and cute" (both extremely exaggerated points). It's not a piece of shit, and you all know it. It looks like the funnest game I've ever seen, and that's the only thing that really counts. Don't give me this "it will ruin the immersion" bullshit, the only thing that immerses a player is FUN! FUN!! FUUUUUUUN!!!!!!!!!!
Great stuff! Adam Sessler is on my wall of heroes now along with the team at Blizzard who know exactly why they made the right decision on the artwork!!

nerd?....excuse me but we prefer the more dignified term,...Geek!
People are going to piss and moan about the artstyle, that isn't going to stop. I love the new look and trust Blizzard not to fuck up D3. With that being said, Adam Sessler is a douchebag but in this rare occasion I agree with him. Sidenote: A message to the petitioners. 50K or whatever the number is up to now (not an accurate number imo) that disagree with the artstlye, colors, ect, need to just get over it because Bliizzard has heard you, and you are insignificant to them. Just because so few of you think Blizzard is going the wrong way doesn't mean 3-5 million people will not love Diablo 3.

We know you're speaking your mind. We are speaking our mind, telling you about how your speaking your mind is stupid. There are times that speaking one's mind is a good thing, and times when it is clearly, evidently, obviously, indefinitely, not. Opinions can be wrong.
You said that "Businesses frequently fail because they lose touch with [what] their customers want<s>". This statement makes you seem to be extremely knowledgeable, though I suspect that just like the vast majority of us, you don't actually know this as a fact. Just as some assumption to make your argument stronger. If you do actually know this as a fact, please list 100 examples of this occurrence.
Moving on, I doubt that it was Jay Wilson's opinion alone that your vision of the game was B-O-R-I-N-G. Despite what some *cough*retards*cough*[/joke] think, being a lead designer is QUITE different from a DICTATORSHIP.
What do you expect the people on the forums to do during all day long waiting for D3 to hit the shelves? Compliment the game? Discuss the mechanics? Make speculations about the new classes?
No that's way too complicated and boring. It's a lot more fun to spam or flame one another and way more easy to just throw up a bunch of nonsense about the graphics.
Hopefully this will eventually die out when we get more info about the game.
So the only reason they complain is to make other people miserable.
I don't think so, we complain because Blizzard bummed us out with it's WOWing effects on the game and hope someone in Blizzard gets the point, albeit unlikely.

WoW could only hope to look so good.
Besides if I was charging through undead and demons I'd want spikey shoulder pads also.
Yes they do, and this site has been one nice way me to pull my head out of a shell script. Cup of Joe, little music, do a Vulcan mind meld with the code, and a little soap box here.
There is nothing wrong with Diablo III's art direction - I don't even see why people are complaining as much as they are. To me, Diablo II was a joke compared to Diablo I, and now Diablo III looks much better than Diablo II. Of course, that is MY opinion

Thank you!

Everyone speaking their mind is stupid!
I agree with most of what he said.

So in other words, by not responding to any of the aforementioned statements, you concede each of your points?
P.S. No it's not. So there, ROFL!
