Anyways on topic. IMO the petition really isn't necessary. As people have said before, there were just too little areas shown to conclude what Diablo III is like.
The petition isn't necessarily hurting anything, either. Personally, I have no problem with the colors, but even though I only agree with one point of the list of demands (return of the light radius), I think now is the perfect time for fans to tell Blizzard what they want to see.
It's very possible that:
They could be working on an unfinished light radius.
They may have intentionally removed a light radius to show off more of the game - since it was an announcement video!
They could be intentionally making the starting zones bright and pretty to make the coming zones look especially horrific in comparison.
We know nothing about the current or intended state of the game - all we were given was an announcement video showing only two areas - but we know what we want to see.
The game won't be coming out for a while, and any major disagreement with the public has plenty of time to be addressed.
You know we should be happy the game is even announced. They could've just left the Diablo fans for another year so that more hype goes to WoW and SC2. The only reason people complain is because the models are similar to WoW (SC 2 is similar to WoW as well graphically). If Diablo III offers good gameplay, I'm fine with that.
I'm really appalled at how people use this line over and over. Blizzard wants to please fans (it's in their financial interest), and these issues aren't exactly required for capturing a broader audience. Diablo can easily have its own artstyle and still be just as successful.
The game is clearly being created to recapture the success of Diablo 2 and welcome back the D2 audience. Changing the artstyle to please the target audience is obviously something Blizzard should want to do.
The new look actually fits the "future" a lot more, and I mean game future. It has been pretty demonless for 20 years, so I don't expect the place to stay dark as hell.
I also don't agree with the statement about the setting. That logic doesn't apply to either of the previous games - hell wasn't roaming earth for 20 years in either one.
Unless you're referring only to D3 starting areas, the game should feature a dark experience.
Diablo games are dungeon crawlers, which are supposed to be dark and frightening.
It's not much of a dungeon crawler if you see everything coming at you - and they knew that for the first two games.
Ouch look at the monstrosity I created....just wanted to inform the good old fans on this forum about new information coming in...guessing this will be the format that they might reveal some new stuff perhaps. I'll admit I laughed at their view on the petition...but I do agree that they tried to be somewhat one-sided about the whole ordeal. I guess people can't bitch about it though; I mean you guys created this bed now you have to lay in it. Guess what if other people don't like your opinion to change the game you're just going to have to deal with it. They have a right to voice their opinion too. Maybe this thread should be closed as now I fear it's just going to turn into another debate about who is right and who is wrong. Arrrggghhh.
Guys, just a reminder. The moderators also have the right to express themselves, and they don't voice it posting in this thread. They voice their point of view with the ban-stick. If some people love the loose tongue to call others kids, idiot, etc. you are openly in violation of the DiabloFans forum etiquette.
Don't complain if your forum posting privileges are removed either with temp-ban or perma-ban.
July 3rd, 2008 at 7:06 pm That petition is a freakin’ joke. Not dark and gorey enough? Did these people watch the game play video where the Siege Beast bites the player in half and leaves the entrails on his face? and that Tomb in the beginning was pretty damn dark. I’m sorry, I played Diablo 2 and 1 and these people are whining about a game they haven’t even seen 1% of. Blizzard is going to deliver regardless of this petition. What an asshole.
Why does everyone keep trying to discredit someone's opinions?
If they don't like it then they should just leave it at that.
No need to flame. lol
I like the petition, not because I'm in favor of it.. but because it lets people think they have a say in what's going on.
Whether they do or not.. that's up for debate, but it gives them hope.
>.<
Blizzard will provide what they think is right.
That's their job as a game company.. they need to know what works in a game that THEY are making.
It will rock.
Period.
He is right, the petition is joke. If it had less comparing to WoW and instead taking a neutral way of speculating the graphics, it might be a bit less annoying than what it is now. And anyways like Bashiok said the area was specifically created to the Demo, so the actual game will look a lot different.

PCG podcast #139 (entitled Bugged) has revealed that Diablo III is the next cover story of PC Gamer magazine at newsstands. Apparently there will be new art revealed in this magazine, a Q&A with the Lead Art Director, and possibly an interview with Mike Morhaime (Blizzard president). It's mentioned after 7:00 of the podcast, and they also talk about the online petition. www.pcgamerpodcast.com
"Diablo III will be in the cover of our PC Gamer October 2008 issue, on newsstands by August 19th."
Thanks, dunhac82
I will be sure to pick the PC Gamer up at the market. I will be going to watch the podcast as soon as I post this message. Thank you both for letting us know about these things. I, for one, appreciate it.
Ive love diablo ever since it was created, so ill prob still buy the game.
I just want the bodies on the floor to stay there or stay alot longer than what they do atm, light radius needs to be back in the dungeons, and also i cant get over the fact at how painted/ drawn picture looking the background is lLOL sorry but i just cant it looks so wierd, the character models look nice but the background gets to me.
Hopefully bliz does change a few things or adds certain options into the menu to please some people like turning floating numbers off and turning light radius on or off or something like that.
P.S, i woulda thought D3 would be released before sc2? cause apparently from what i read a few months ago they werent even half way through the Sc2 story line.
ok after visiting these forums for quite a while now, and also not posting much but mainly just reading.. i have got something to say which might "shake the world" once again...
I HATE THE GODDAMN CARTOONY GRAPHICS AND THAT GODDAMN MOTHERF****ING RABBIT THAT DOESNT DIE !! F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting that Well, i agree and don't agree with those guys about this petition, but there is no sense discussing it, as it was done a lot of times. Anyway, did they say anything about these gigantic shoulder pads? Coz i forgot. Or they didn't want to touch the issue they knew fans are right? ;] Coz noone is gonna tell me that the shoulder pads are right. Wow fans maybe could say so
Anyway, good to hear what they had to say.
Thanks.
Cheers
Lol I really didn't notice the shoulder pads until people started talking about it. Its a little lame, but its a barbarian. I'm sure the other classes are less exaggerated, but I'm sure Blizzard themselves wanna express the physical superiority of the Barbarian.
Im glad we'll get more info - i hope they atleast consider downplaying the "fantasy" aspects - the petition was a great idea to me - atleast it shows us they noticed... I like it as is - but would like it more... if it was realistic and evil/dark...
i hope some german magazine will cover Diablo 3 in the near future. Anyway i´m also looking forward what news the PC Gamer will give us
i havent seen this posted anywhere on here but random site checking showed me that diablo 3 will is on the cover for the pc action 09/2008 issue with the word exclusive on it i'm not sure whats inside but it's a german publication if i'm not mistaken

Now, let's not convert another thread in to a color flame war I do agree with you, though.
They own all of the legal and financial rights to it, therefore your point is null. However, they *should* have a sense of dedication to their long-loyal fans and *want* to do what the fans want. In the end, the designers will do what they think is best to reach the most amount of players. Just because someone likes the current art doesn't make their opinion any less valid than someone who doesn't like it. These discussions really need to stop popping up in every thread.
Now, let's not convert another thread in to a color flame war I do agree with you, though.
No flames here - simply an opinion - Given I've been playing through d1 again... (to freshen up... lol) - I can't help but think the current style is not that which the original creators would have done... a dark and twisted d3 would be great.. but if its not.. im sure the game will still be good...
Whether each thread turns into art direction or not... lets face it.. we only agrue cuz none of us can wait for it to come out - and out of anticipation we argue over negligible details to pass the time...
Truth is - blizz can listen or not... but if they see the response and even make small tweaks - I think thats plausible - afterall when you make a game with such a huge following - gotta please the fans... big game dev. or not - repeat customers are always the largest part of your market share.. never really liked wow - would love a updated 3d isometric d2 - that way if d3 isn't my style... i have another diablo to blow another near decade playing - lets face it... after d2 came out.. none of us got anything done in our spare time....
