Bashiok rolls his engines to answer a few concerns from the Diablo III Gameplay Video.
Q u o t e:
Here are some smaller information I gathered from watching Diablo 3's gameplay video. Some may be obvious but have not been posted, so here it goes!
At 8:13 of gameplay, an already dead creature comes back to life. A zombie of the undead!
Bashiok: This is the detached torso of a Walking Corpse. After death the torso of the Walking Corpse has a chance to survive, detaching itself and crawling after the hero.
14:09 of Gameplay - Besides from there being cute bunnies in Diablo 3, critters don't die. Man, I always liked killing critters in Starcraft. This image is the Witch Doctor throwing a random fire ball which directly hits a critter, but the critter receives no effect.
Bashiok: This was unfortunately a bug that existed in the build that was being used to record the gameplay video. Those critters die, and there's nothing more satisfying than seeing a bunny corpse flung across the screen. It just wasn't working for the demo, which stinks.
Q u o t e: Leader doesn't die until new spawns come?
15:25 of Gameplay - That same leader of the post above this one, leads the Witch Doctor and Barbarian to the hill where it was the supposedly "nasty trap" they got caught into. But this leader was not able to get hit or damaged in any way until after the new enemy spawns came.
15:30 of Gameplay - The Witch Doctor and Barbarian are frozen by the same group leader. It shows 2 red effects on the bottom left of the screen, one looking image looking like a time thing (forgot what its called lol) which may show how long the effect lasts or just slows target down, and second being ice image, which is for the completely frozen effect. Also when frozen, your whole skill bar goes red. (Frozen effect seems dangerous for Hardcore players !)
Bashiok: It was a scripted event to pretty much have a cool way to introduce the female Witch Doctor and Barbarian, so yeah, it wasn't necessarily indicative of something that would show up in the actual game.
16:53 of Gameplay - During the end of gameplay, the Siegebreaker Assault Beast boss makes his entrance by slamming through the wall, charging against the players. They all jumped. Either its automatic jump reflexes, which seems kind of weird, or theres a jumping button.
Another part when the jumping is really seen as, what's really going on? http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/8464/dodgeagain1738rc5.jpg
The Siegebreaker charges at the Witch Doctor at 17:38 of gameplay. The Witch Doctor clearly dodges the attack somehow. I would assume, this cannot be automatic reflexes because that would make no sense. Just let him stomp on the damn player, or are the players really dodging somehow?
Bashiok: This is a knock back effect when the Siegebreaker would use its "charge" type ability. It effectively damages your character and pushes them away from the charging path.
Blackdoom: What is the point in posting ideas and suggestions on her asking for this or that to be in the game, or saying those things should or shouldn't be in it. I doubt anyone from Blizzard... at least anyone from Blizzard that matters, is reading any of the posts here, and even if they did, they most likely do not give a rat's ass about what their fans think. Hell in a post, or somewhere I read it, not sure where, they said they make the games and things in the games around what they like, and want to see in a game, not what the fans want. It would be great if they did give a $!@% though, there have been some awesome ideas on here, but they just do not seem like people who care what their fans want. They are in it for the money from what I've seen, even though they seem that way, I am not saying they suck or anything, Blizzard is still the best! Anyway, anyone have proof that blizzard (someone, or a group of people that matter and might carry some kind of decision making weight) actually cares about what we think? An e-mail, a link, past posts, ect...
Bashiok: Aw, of course we care! A large part of my job is specifically to ensure that the valid concerns, comments, and critiques are brought to the appropriate people's attention. That doesn't mean that every idea or suggestion is something we agree with, or are going to base changes on though. There's a point where, as a game designer, you have to stick to your guns and know that your choices and direction are what's best for the game and ultimately those that will be playing it. There's a point where you have to be confident that you're making the right decisions. So at the end of the day you're staying true to your vision and design, and doing what's best for the game.
A good example of us paying attention though was the concern and thread about corpses not sticking around long enough. I read that thread, brought it up, and some discussion was happening on it. Later our lead tech artist Julian was reading through the replies, and got some ideas of how we may want to keep corpses on screen a little longer. Now we're playing around with some changes that shouldn't have a huge performance hit, while still keeping the corpses on screen for variable amounts of time. Hopefully it works out.
Would any experimentation for corpse decay have happened had it not been brought up on the forums? I don't know, maybe, but we're not just dismissing good, valid, and well reasoned concerns.
As I said not every suggestion, comment, or idea is going to be considered, but we're definitely watching and reading.
It seems like they still have A LOT of work on this title..
And i mean, a lot..
It seems like they havn't even started to make so many things in the game, seriously, it looks like they just have been started working on the game like just couple of month's from now or at least half a year, aswell the related answers of bashiok to my post show's it clearly.
I can see that Bashiok or some people from blizzard took a look on my thread about the corpses thing, and aswell made a post of explanation on why they are making it like that and so on.. this is nice, as i thought they weren't even read those threads and making any attention to it. So that's a big plus for blizzard right there.
But I still didn't get a real answer for real, and the post from Bashiok about it didn't very much satisfied me.
I'm a bit dissapointed.
But i hope anything they will do, they will do it good, i know i can count on them, and that post of bashiok that show's they read my thread and even thought on making real changes in the game, that's pretty awesome.
i dont think they'll delay the game that much because of the suggestions.
they already said there's still alot to do with the game. Mostly about the content and its the most usual thing for Blizzard to release the game 18-24 months after the announcement. Theres enough time for the good ideas to come in (more like to edit the ideas they had for something better) and polish things up to have a great product for sale.
I'm optimistic and expect the game around November 2009. Will keep a closer look through the forums now for interesting threads now. Perhaps when the game is out i'll see one of my ideas in there
Dear God, they care! In any case, I wonder if the graphics and texture concerns have been brought into discussion once again amongst Blizzard employees.
please dont start talking about the same thing in one of the threads thats not about it... there are already like 10000000 threads about graphics comlaints and believe me, they're hard to miss for someone that noticed the "why corpses vanish" thread.
Did anyone notice in the trailer the floating numbers?
Yes, of course everyone saw them, but in the part where the narrator is explaining that the enviornment is destructible, and the barbarian is doing his floor shaking attack, the numbers go up in the air. It was 160 for one table, 150 for the second table.
Could we be getting experience from destroying the environment? Makes sense in that you're essentially practicing.
Woot! I was the one who mentioned situations containing corpse decay first. So if it gets in, I don't care what you guys think, but I'm telling people it was my idea.

This is why people shouldn't get so angry over these types of things, if it's a demo things aren't going to, necessarily, be indicative of the final build.
Good constructive criticism is great, but just getting so flaming angry, as some on the forums are known to do, is unnecessary and counterproductive.
i find it sickening that the critters are gonna be killable. while i was wathing the video i was glad that the little bunnies where just for show and they didnt die. i find it horrible that they are now "fixing" it so they can be killed. Blizzard was always sick like that, i hate how in WoW they make all the critters killable. they make it so children arent killable, but why arent the critters as well?
at least make some kinda option that you can shut off critter kills. you know, some ppl are very sensitive about that kinda stuff. critter killing doesnt belong in these kinda games. it changes the whole game dramatically.

Are you being ironic?
Now, what? That is strange. Well, do like in real life - if you don't want bunnies dying, don't kill them. Don't jump over them, hit them w/ swords, send shock waves in their direction, or fireballs/meteors, or anything that would reduce them to ashes. Can't be that hard.
Or can. Think about that - a Secret Cow Level, available only to those who didn't killed ANY critters at all! OMFG
Edit: I mean - DON'T EATING CRITTER FOOD, TOO! That would be freaking insane.

Are you serious? The whole game is about slaughtering millions upon millions of demons, undead, and monsters in the most horrific and graphic way possible.
If you have a problem with killing one little bunny rabbit, maybe you shouldn't buy the Mature Rated game.
Perhaps this game will suit your needs better.
I don't think there will be any bunny killing in that. Then again, the pony could step on the bunnies and crush their spinal columns with red blood and gore spraying all over the pink mane of the pony. Now that would be a pretty sight.
OT: It is good to see that Blizzard is actually reading what we write, and taking little bits of advice from us.
I'm glad Bashiok gave us that information, that's awesome :). I do find it rather odd that someone can go for hours slaying monsters and demons but be sensitive to hurting the poor bunnies. . .

Those are critical damage hits.. not XP gains...
But back on topic, it's nice to see a response from Blizzard about some of the issues.

And as many others have stated aswell, we bloody well hope your making the game darker cause all im seeing atm with these graphics is a drawn background picture with a 3d rendered character and its pissing me off.
Oh and before i forget floating numbers?, please put an option in the game to take these off at least i dont wanna see floating numbers coming off me 24/7.

Its gonna be quite ridculous at the end of the day if they say they spent 7 years on this game.
I was hoping for a simple clicky clicky competitive game like D2 but while I don't know whats the how lag back for this game.
