Well, just impossible to read all the posts... but, after reading a lot of them, i dont know... somehow, i just think blizzard could, and they will if they want to, just simply forget this idea of having a ranged class just because there isn't one yet...
But, to figure it out... the ideia of thinking on a place in sanctuary is really the key...
So, they just wont create someone from dreadlands, just because it is the old barbarian lands, the old north part from D2's map... so i kind a think that barbarians just fell that area, the place is not the same anymore, but they still come from there u know...
Aside of that, the might come out with someone from Westmarch, as Khanduras and Westmarch already got in battle from D1 stories... anotherthing that just makes me wonder, the Westmarch Gulf, that bay around there, just seems a place, somehow interesting... who knows they just comeup with a sailer guy, kind a based on the "Meshief" ideia from D2 (act 2 and 3), but not an a arabian type, more like a estern type!!
so... i couldnt go further... just need some beer to keep thinking about it...
i wanned to say "WESTERN"...

I don't use these forums a lot, I just assume point out every aspect of something. But I've noticed something that hadn't been said in the first couple pages of this thread, and I noticed there was something obvious to me. I haven't read all 30 pages but I'll just say this and someone can tell me if someone else already said it.
During some interview months before the Monk announcement, it was said that they had both classes, 1 class they said was using programmer art with a default model, and the other needed real, actual modeling and animations made from the beginning.
At that moment I called a friend and told him, "They're going to announce the Holy class next." he said, "How do you know." I said, "They said they had a class that required actual animations and modeling. That would be something with complicated animations, like a Holy class, with auras and melee moves."
The other thought I knew, was, "What class could get by on programmer art." to me, "programmer art." means like a programmer can just get by representing something with a solid 1px white line or some jazz... solid white lines and... sol--- arrows... ?? RANGED! So we know, from the basic fundamental beginning of the making of this class, before it was even concepted, it was using programmer art for its gameplay. Best suited for say a default model shooting 1px solid white line projectiles slopped together by some programmer at his desk to feel out the class. This means, this character is ranged ranged ranged, even waaaay before it ever even went into concept.
So uh, whatever it is, it's HEAVILY projectile based from the get-go and there's no way it's some other kind of class. Because as we know with the monk, other more complicated looking classes with auras and melee moves, require animations and models from the start. I'm not saying it won't have other moves or trees, but the fundamental basic fabric of what this class is, even before actually deciding was ranged projectiles.
It's got to be a ranged class, or at least a hybrid class with ranged fighting inclinations since Blizzard takes balancing and variability seriously during the class design phase.

Just to point out. There was an interview, I think the same one as what you're mentioning. Where they said the last class is the longest standing class they have, that has just gone through many re-imaginings and re-design.
I think it's could be a kind of weapons master, who can use any weapons, sword, bow... A mix between Paladin and Amazon, a skill tree for auras, a skill tree for melee weapons and a skill tree for distance weapons like bow.
This is just my spin on things. As much as I'd like a paladin ,I wouldn't mind seeing something new yet different tho.
I was thinking about something like a Elf (combo of archer/druid summoner)
The Elf is cool because I think of legolas from lord of the rings and Elf is one with nature so it would make sense that he could summon Animals as well. Thought this could be a cool mixuture of skills ,summons close combat/ bow for long range.
Ok thats nice but were not getting an elf for sure. Again this isnt LOTR or WoW or even DnD.

I've been seeing a lot of idea for a Bard here lately. So I thought of giving it a go and thinking of my own idea for the Bard. Also, I haven't played Sierra's D1 Xpansion, so I don't know how they created their Bard. Plus I haven't read the Bard's Wikia.
The Entertainer
Focuses heavily on:
Buffs for the party
Some form of healing
Aura esque abilities
The Adventurer
Focuses heavily on:
Gadgets (traps and such)
Exotic Abilities (like splinter arrow and etc)
Chemical bombs (he travels a lot so he'd find a lot of weird things)
The Minstrel
Focuses heavily on:
Debuffing the enemy
Demoralizing the enemy
Confusing and stunning the enemy
Well that's my idea for the Bard. He needs to have some form of magic or powers to effect the monsters of Sanctuary and the Burning Hells. But he doesn't focus on it, instead he releases them in his Music. I also decided to create the Trees more into what the Bard does and represents rather than the weapons he uses. The Instrument could be left out as a weapon but I thought of keeping it in some form not as a cliche but to add depth of what skills you would need and what secondary weapon you want to carry with you, whether use the sword or bow. If it does hinder customization then it can be left out.
5th class definitely has to be ranged. So far, there's your heavy warrior type class, the barbarian; the offensive caster, the wizard; the support/alt caster, the Witch Doctor; and the fast, light, damage dealing/holy melee class, the monk. What's obviously missing is the ranged class.
I definitely believe that the this class would be a ranger/woodsman type character. Uses ranged weapons, is a nature class, probably has one or two pets, and could use traps. Also, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), that the ranger doesn't ONLY use bows; they also use a wide variety of weapons, which fulfills the multiple weapon master theory.
This also fills in the two classes that haven't made a comeback from Diablo 2: the Amazon and the Druid. The barbarian returned, the witch doctor is essentially a necromancer with some druid like qualities, the wizard is obviously a sorceress, and the monk is a hybrid of the Assassin and Paladin. This isn't to say all of the classes have to be similar to those from Diablo 2, but all of the other classes revealed so far seem to follow that pattern, and you have to have a ranged class.
The ranger seems to fit the missing niche very well, and fills in the missing aspects of the Amazon, Druid, and Assassin: the Amazon's ranged combat and well rounded melee, the druid's nature pets, and the Assassin's traps. True, the Witch doctor does have some druid aspects, including pets, but the which doctor is from the Jungle, not the Forest (nature), and the witch doctor's pets are undead, and therefore inherited from the necromancer, not the druid. The druid's elemental damage tree is definitely not coming back, and I think that the possibility of having shape-shifting in Diablo 3 is rather dubious.
In my opinion, the Druid's shapeshifting was one of the worst aspects of Diablo 2. It looked bad, and when you were shapeshifted, you couldn't really use any of your magical abilities: you just ran around killing things with your basic attack. With Diablo 3's dependence on abilities, I think that it is highly unlikely that Blizzard would include an ability that prevented you from doing anything other than running around punching things. And not to mention, shapeshifting would completely eliminate your ranged attack: a werewolf cannot use a bow. 'nuff said.
And on a few other topics:
First of all, there are no muskets in Diablo. Or gadgets, any type of machinery, or things that go boom.
Additionally, I think that the archivist was the closest you're going to get to a bard class in Diablo. True, there was a bard class in Hellfire, but Hellfire is not part of Diablo lore; look at the barbarian: he was in Hellfire too, but is completely different from the Barbarian of Diablo 2.
And finally, I think that it is doubtful that the paladin will be returning. He already is represented by the monk; there are no healing classes in Diablo, period, and the Barbarian has shield mastery, so that is ruled out too.
I also think that the idea for a demon master that a few people were discussing was interesting, if not necessarily realistic. True, the ranger is a very predictable move, and Blizzard might try something really creative for the ranged class like that, but I still think that the ranger class is the best fit, because of the evidence I have mentioned above. True, turning into a demon would be awesome, but that would carry similar problems with shapeshifting (though I suppose that a demon could still use spells and stuff). But then again, the witch doctor appears to be the "dark" character, with voodoo magic and stuff; not really scary, but it is looking like Diablo 3 will be kind of tame compared to its predecessors, as the visuals look like they are borrowing more from WoW than from the dark gothic fantasy of Diablo 1 & 2 at the moment...
If it is a Ranger im gonna be so happy that i was right this whole time.

Well some people dont understand that this isnt DnD, and that the game is about saving Sanctuary as a human. So were not going to be seeing any demon or angel playable classes in D3, meh maybe in D4 or whatever we might.

I don't know what archetype the character will be, most likely archer, but we still need a class from the desert region and we need a class that uses mid ranged armor. These two aspects have not been touched yet. The desert is a huge region and one of the only places left for a class to originate from. As far as diversifying the classes, armor look is a big deal. Despite how they balance out armor for the classes. Aesthetically, we have 3 light armors and 1 heavy, they still need a class that uses leather or chain mail to help the characters look different.

You are counting D2 plus LoD, which is 7 classes. D3 will only have 5.
It's not unlikely that Blizzard will build on what is has learned so far, and doing so would logically require them to include D2 and LoD as its starting point.

Probably not.

Probably not.
