Hmmm. My estimations are like...
1)An arcane spellcaster, much like the sorceror from 1 and sorceress from 2. Witch Doctor is support caster/summoner and not main damage caster.
2)A second melee class similar to paladin from 2 (diablo is mostly hack and slash anyway). Melee is the most important part of the game, hence the plethora of weapons and their endless variations.
3)The ranged attacker never failed to shoot an arrow or two in the entire series, why now? Let' s just hope they are not some blunderbuss-wielding tauren or something like that, or else i swear to throw a mercury grenade inside Bliizard Headquarters myself and single handedly! The same goes for any idiotic copy+paste from wow aesthetics.
Shapeshifters might or might not have a high possibility to exist in 3, and if they do it won' t be either shaman or druid, if the old classes won' t return [druids' +2 skill suffix/prefix is named "Shaman 's"]. (or +1, i don 't remember which one of those 2). But of course it 's nothing more than mere calculations and a wild guess at that, too. Interesting thread.
Apparently you're not yet aware, so let me be the one to break this news to you. They announced the Wizard class at Blizzcon!! It is awesome! Woooo, unless the ranger-type class comes out cooler, my favourite class will probably be the Wizard (or maybe Witch Doctor).
I am really interested to see what the next two classes will be. I'm hoping they will be some kind of combination of previous classes (shapeshifting paladin? holy ranger?). There are so many combinations, I really want to find out which combo Blizzard will go with.
I think one of the classes will be a monster hunter type. Similar to the one mentioned in the bestiary. Burroughs or whatever his name is. Uses snares, ranged weapons, and maybe even monsters themselves to fight(based off the account of him catching the burrower)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]"Fool! You have just ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you've set in motion this day. Go to the Temple of Light, in the eastern ciry of Kurast. There you will find the gate to Hell opened before you. You must find the courage to step through that gate Marius. Take the stone you hold to the Hellforge, where it will be destroyed. Now run! Take the stone and run!"
thats not such a bad thought, indeed. The Sin War Trilogy also mentions a hunter, Achilios with great tracking skills and long ranged abilities. Its possible, that or ranger.

Why not a Bounty Hunter? Skilled primarily in long range and secondary in quick take downs up close.
In the end, i think it would be a minor difference. (ranger, beast hunter, bounty hunter...)
And i STILL hope for Japanese war art in Diablo.
(Xiansai is really more Chinese than Japanese. Do you think there could be other places? Dont want to go OT though.)
Xiansai makes me think Korean more than Chinese for what ever reason.
Japanese overtones seep into all things Blizzard. Ranging from Pandarans to equipable items in Diablo 1 and 2, each species in Starcraft has a theme specifically from Japan, I can't remember what it is, but I knew once.
Classes like abujer, shapeshifter, iinvoker, ritualist, templar, warlock....bla...bla...bla...
Diablo always had SIMPLE classes with SIMPLE names and here you go with your crazy yet stupid ideas for some uber cool classes.
FFS!!!
There will be a simple archer and a simple-something-else....DEAL WITH IT!!!
Wow dude, thats totally unecessary, give the guy a break will ya? A little Creative thought is what this forum needs and already thrives on, it keeps ppl from whining.
Who knows, Blizz may make a totally crazy character. Making a witch-doctor is already unheard of in rpg's as far as the main stream ones Ive played other than WoW.
Now I judge youre an intelligent gamer, why dont ya please edit that post i quoted to make it a little less harsh and try to be a little more understanding of Diablo fans having and sharing creative ideas. Hey man, Ive been in your position before too, so hey it happens to everyone.
I personally think the next class will be some sort of badass soldier/knight dude who is more civilised than the barbarian yet more untamed than tjhe pious paladin.

WD is a D&D class. It also appears in WC3 and WoW (not as a playable class).
So yeah, does the existance of WDs in WC even matter in our case? (Not trying to sound lile a jerk. I really want to know your opinions.)
I seriously don't think it matters the slightest. Just like the Druid from D2 gave people an idea of what Druids are, and then WoW came up with another Druid class that was completely unrelated. In that light, I believe that even if one of the remaining classes is named 'Hunter' or 'Rogue' (like the D1 Rogue), it's going to be a unique new class, unrelated to WoW.
DotA is not really a good example, because it borrowed or referenced quite a bit from D2, for example, King Leoric is a playable hero...
Now I may be wrong, but i think the need for a beastmaster is already filled by the Barb and Witch-doctor. The former has the wilderness muscle thing going on and the latter has all of those dudes he can summon. But i may be wrong. I personally think the next class will be a sorta paladin-esque guy, since they had the wizard who is sorta like the sorceress but different
This is slightly related: Holy crap! Have you noticed the d3 vid showing the barb and witch doctor is just like the last campaign in frozen throne?? With the beast master and the witch doctor?

That troll is not a WD, he is a shadow hunter, a healer/crowd controler based at agility.
And yeah, we really need someone to fill the ''good guy'' slot created by the paladin's leave.
The only way they could innovate here was sending a archer that follow that line.
One class with heals and buffs who's average with most weapons or prefers staffs.
One class with ranged skills, knowing blizzard probably not plainly an archer so maybe some sort of far-eastern warrior or a steppe rider or such.
Well they called there spell caster The Wizard....so them calling the ranged class(assumingn there is one) The Archer is pretty possible
I decided to make my own character, and I hope you all like it:
Reliigon Based Character:
The Priest
Description (General): A group of men who have a divided mind. Each choosing a different path. One chooses the Burning Hells as his heaven, and the others choose the light. Description (Physical): When you start out, you have dress in a very light thick clothes that offer very little protectionl. In your pocket, there is a book that carries an enchantment with a holy protection over your head, but in your hands is a small dagger, that has been your friend since your long journey.
Other: He is a man mastered in the religious power, both or Dark, Light, and Individual. You can make your choice of becoming either, and then be the master of it.

Didnt like because:
1) As Kenzai allready said we allreayd have 2 casters. A third one would weird (3 caster out of 5 classes? boring).
2) No creativity. This class have no personality, because it's a overused concept.
3) This priets is execly how wow's priest is. I kno you guys gonna flame me for that comparison, but calm down i'm not one of those wow haters. it would just be lamefull to see D3's classes with the same concept of wow classes just because I and most of blizzards fans have passed mouths or years playing wow and don't wanna see the same classes again. Think how bitter would be find the next two classes are a Hunter with a pet, a bow and a trap skill tree and this priest. It would bring nothing new to the world of games and i hope the next two classes really bring something new like the WD.
4) the most important, like wow, this concept of dark and light don't fit well here. In idablo you can mix your skill trees. Thats mean i could creat a Light/Dark priest. If it was a arcane caster it's ok, but it's not, it's a religious caster. It mean that himself have no power but he deity bless him with miracles. But how the same person can be agent of two RIVAL and ENEMY deitys ? Why the fuck the High Heavens would give power to someone that is also agent of the Burning Helll ? Thats 100% unlogical and against Diablo's lore.
Maybe I would make him more of a paladin (even though they said the barbarian would be the only returning class in Diablo 3) or more melee centered instead of just a caster... Would that be better or is a religion-based character not a good idea.
A knight type of character could be pretty good if you make him really unique. Its no easy job though.
I think that if they make a knight that's just a paladin with a different name, then they should just name him the paladin. Reusing a name won't do any harm.
Anyone think that one of the classes may be a pet class? Not like the necro or WD where they have minions that die fast and you just resummon then.....but something far more reliant on there minion/pet?
You mean like the iron golem, not? You know, you create him with an item and he stays when you quit the game. Just like a merc.
It was my idea to give such pets to the magician class but seems like people dont like that idea very much.
Actually they could still add golems and such that act like mercs to the conjuring skill tree of the Wizard. I still think it would be cool.
But its possible just as well that the WD will have such pets. The mongrels are the only ones we have seen so far.
heheh I also think a dedicated spellcaster like the wizard should have a pet :P....just like arcane spellcasters in dnd :P.......but I guess this is diablo and not dnd so that really has no relevance here
This game needs a healer. Whether it be by direct spells, aoe, or auras. Hell, a life leech could work... much needed. I'm all for a healer.
As for ranged classes - being that its 20 years into the future, how about crude firearms? Traps, explosives, bombs, and nasty old black powder type firearms. High end gear could be ranged demonic weapons, or holy weapons. Something like this should be explored. A ranger meets assassin meets something new?

However, in the Warcraft universe Witch Doctor is one of the non-playable Hero classes. http://www.battle.net/war3/orc/units/witchdoctor.shtml
