i for one won't miss the Amazon eventhough it was the class I played the most in D2. After the announcement of D3 I reinstalled D2 and have found the most fun playing a Ranger, a bow wielding Paladin. I guess I just really liked the gameplay of the D1 Rogue and the Amazon with her Strafe, multishot, and guided arrow just got away from that necessary targeting and positioning.
3:19 -- Wilson says the witch doctor is not the evolved version of Diablo II's necromancer.
The Necro has been in almost every Diablo book, and it is one of the most played classes of all. I think instead of the witch doctor being a replacement, I think the Necro will have new skill trees, or whatever they are going to use. I think it would be cool if the Necro had almost assassin like skills for the dagger, as they do in the books.
I personally think, if there are only 5 classes, that the other two will be a Paladin type character who can shapeshift into an angel. And of course, a mage class which they have had from the beginning. But I seriously doubt there will only be 5 classes.
If the necro comes back it won't be in the original boxed release. There are numerous posts from the devs that talk about the desire to create all new classes (the original Blizzard North guys weren't going to bring back any classes). The current developers say they only chose to bring back the Barbarian because of his faults in D2 and the ability to essentialy recreate him. For the release they really want to focus on creating a new game and not just D2 with updated grafics so all the necro lovers will probably have to wait for an expansion.
The class that will probably be announced will probably be the Death Knight, to tie into WoW's next expansion and give another reason for people who play that game to jump to this one, and it is why Diablo fans will probably be upset. I guess we'll see when the announcement comes...
- Hyerophant: Some elemental magic, white magic (like healing and anti undead demon attacks) and pure magic. See my sign for deep detail =-)
- Ranger/Mercenary: Uses bow, daggers, stealth and traps. Some skills linked to the new's game mechanics would be great, like a one point skill for climbing.
- (Some wicked name) Knight/Guardian: The counterpart of pally. Have some combat skills based at special fire attacks and lifesteal. Also have aura AND curses at the same time. Kenzai, here go your sword/shield user !
But I LOVED the joker suggestion. A wicked Joker, who uses scepters and have tarot spells.
He could kill demons for sadism or just to get the gold they keep. Hes a very greedy guy.
Im hoping there is no return of the pally but instead they go for more of a healer class. make the online game a more co-operative effort and get everyone involved. Hopefully theres a weapon proficientcy too. no more sorcs with warhammers
Ok we seen the wizz now what?
I think a druid is the most probable one.
I don't think they are re-using anything besides the barb. Plus, they already have elemental damage, melee damage, and a summoner...so i doubt they'd make a class that is basically all 3 in one...
The most probable class archetype would be a ranged melee character. Some sort of amazon-ish character. Something quick that can use ranged weapons.
Also, possibly a sword-and-shield "knight" type of class. We have a Barbarian already, but they don't seem to be focused on defense very much, more about offense

Stay.
You don't always know where you stand,
'Till you know that you won't run away.
There's something inside me that feels...
Like breathing in sulfur.
But Kenzai, anything to do with religion, good vs evil, leadership and cults has something to do with Christianity.
Even Xmen has something to do with Christianity. Its all about the metaphors and subtext involved, not just outward likenesses.
But Diablo is full of outward likenesses anyway - ie. the Triune and the Cathedral of Light. Diablo is very anti-religious.
And the angel you are thinking of is Inarius.
I was wondering though... why is it that Blizzard is giving all the classes so far a dark side? The Witch Doctor is somewhat wicked, the Wizard is an all-out rebel, and the Barbarian is no holy knight. Will they continue to give every class a dark edge to them? I hope so.
Which makes me think that the Ranger character will be someone who is regarded with caution and suspicion and will probably be kind of shadowy (unlike the glorious Amazon - but probably more like the Rogue, except darker).
It also makes me think that if there is a Paladin-type class, they will be the type of paladin who is close-minded and extremely fanatic. They'd be like the opposite side to the Paladin in DII (who was against the black-and-white fanatism of the Zakarum Inquisition).
Yeah, the paladin in DII aimed at fighting the source of evil (aka Diablo), rather than the Inquisition who were 'cleansing' (killing) people who seemed to have evil in them.
Ohhh, yeah sorry, not Inarius but Imperius. But at one point Inarius too wanted to destroy Sanctuary so he could begin anew.
I'm thinking of something along the lines of a Corsair. Can be male/female. Skills are open for a lot of things that are not casting. Can be good melee or bow ability. Auras & combat enhancement maybe to decrease health and increase attack rate. Exploration skills that could increase light radius, help your Alies locate the destructable environment to make certain fights easier, even find enemies setting up for ambushes and take them out before they can start their attack. Different pet summons, maybe large cats like jaguras or panthers...something other than bears and wolves for a change. Even new traps, not the kind that shoot flames or lighting at enemies. Something along the lines of explosive traps that can be tripped sending bodies/environmental elements flying, or even poison traps that can be powered up to intensify the poison. This isn't a completely new idea, just something rehashed and a little different. The name could even be changed, if Corsair doesn't bid well with consumer testing. I think fans of Paladin could get behind something like this, and that could have the same effect as Witch Doctor with Necro players. Although, not the same...still something similar to get their attention. I'm sure its been discussed or somethign similar...but I think this is a pretty reasonable suggestion. I'm not too sure how it would fit into the diablo lore, but I'm sure there is a coastal town/city that can be taken advantage of.
A Bow/Dagger user with some traps and even holy spells.
A Shield User (Knight) with unholy and wicked powers. We really need a knight class kenzai. The only shield skill the barb uses is the Shield Mastery passive. He have NO active shield abilities like paladins Smite and Holy Shield. We cannot say the barbarian are a ''Shield User'' class like the paladin was.
Also do not forget that in D2 we have ''useless weapons'' like daggers that no class used that. We also had the throwing knifes and axes that only a VERY wierd barbarian build could use that.
So we can have no class expecialised in javellins, crossbows, throwing...
I would love if they implement the weapon system from wow. There every class have not just 2 weapon slots like diablo (Right hand and left hand) but 3 slots (main hand, off hand and ranged).
So every class have ranged and melee weapons (Warriors and Rogues uses throwing in high lvl i guessl, Cloths (priest, mage and warlock) uses wands, hunter uses bows/crossbows and druids paladins and shamans have no rnaged weapon, they use this slot with totms, books and relics).
I think a barbarian with throwing weapon as alternative ranged weapons would be nice.
A Bow/Dagger user with some traps and even holy spells.
A Shield User (Knight) with unholy and wicked powers.
This is close 2 my prediction of the 3 classes after I saw the gameplay video.
Wizard (already announced)
A Rogue/Assassin (Ranger) With a ranged skill tree and a melee skill tree.
A Shield User (Knight) with unholy and wicked powers.
Blizzard cant get 2 crazy and make a character that is unbelievable in the Diablo world. The lore would not be hard for the developers to create. I just dont want them trying 2 hard and make something ridiculous.
Well (A Shield User (Knight) with unholy and wicked powers.) might be 2 wierd or overused in other games for some people. But not for me because Blizzard would do it the best.
The barb skills are incomplete. I hope he will have at least some axe throwing skills.
We probably will see another shield user though. And according to the build, he will hopefully be able to use crossbows (give him shortbows like European knights really had, if necessary.).
And the last class will be the far-east influenced agile warrior who can use (depending on build) spears, glaives (naginata) and fine swords or shorter swords and daggers, as well as longbows and some exotic throwing weapons. Also lots of elemental and/or mystical magic stuff.
Serisouly though, i think every ranged or melee weapon is cowered that way. As well as shields.
Thats is allways a possiblity i would like this kind of class to.
However the ''Knight'' and the ''Rogue'' are much more archetyple then the ''Far-easy warrior'', so i guess the chances we get those kind of things are pretty low.
Maybe in a expancion =)
There are actually three archetypes: Fighter, Magician and rogue.
However, there are many skill types that cant be given to only these three. (Dont know how to really explain what i think.)
Knight is actually just a type of fighter, just like the barb. They arent the same at all though.
Also note how i say "far-east influenced" and not something like samurai or ninja which would be too specific. Its just another type of fighter, with rogue elements mixed in. (Depending on build, you can just be a dagger and bow using class too. Just like a rogue.)
Hope i could explain.
Archetyple in my opnion are those classic class that you can find in any RPG, so they gameplay style are allready know by everyone, even before we play the game.
Like the wizard. We kno he/she gonna have a huge amount of damage, elemental attacks, wear staffs/wands, have a low hp, etc..
A barbarian ? We kno hes a giant brawler that use physical attacks, big weapons, skills linked to rage/fury/frenzy, have a high HP, etc...
When i think about a eastern influence warrior nothing ''archetyple'' comes in my head for diablo's gamestyle, but a ninja (stealth, k.o. backstabs, throwing weapons, evasion, shadow spells, poisons, illusions, some limitated elemental attacks, smoke bombs).
Still the Archer and the Goth-plated Shield user is much more important ''archetype'' then a ninja.
Fortunately, we don't have to rely on intuition to guess what words mean when we have the internet. An archetype is a stereotype or the epitome of some personality type. Every class in the history of Diablo has been very archetypal in that they have always been based on a stereotype that virtually every human being is aware of.
Barbs may not be the "tank" unless you make an offensive, defensive or a balanced build. If they have the knight archetype I hope it will include offensive and defensive skills such as auras or buffs. They would be stacked with the barbs shouts and i forgot what the witch doctor and the wizard has for buffs.
For the rogue I think they may merge the assassin and amazon possibly using stealth and traps as well as ranged and melee weapons. This class would be the most likely class to use eastern weapons. The character might be influenced by the desert or jungle regions on the world map. There is still at least one expansion I'm thinking multiple expansions as blizzard will want 2 make a lot of money. This leaves room for the original 5 plus 2 or more characters. I want a necro but is more into demonology.

He don't even have a active abilitie using shields. I can easily be a Battlemaster that don't put points inm shield mastery and use 2 handed weapon.
