im not 100% sure on the necromancer lore but i think theyre more neutral, but some become corrupted in their search for knowledge.
instead of the "faction" style of play they could use religions as the divider between good/evil, diablo has always had a more traditional view on good/evil, angel/demon compared to warcraft and religions would come naturally (plus there is already the Zakarum religion, i would assume people worship demons/angels like their gods)
the Zakarum religion is almost gone as the majority of its members are now dead, they are all those zakarumites, and hierophants and council members you fought. I think the NPCs might still follow this religion but im not sure.
The Paladins, who were once of the zakarum order have somewhat recreated the order in westmarch their new home. so it still exists, but its not like it used to be, with a high council and a Que'Haegan (its leader), least i dont think it is.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

The NPCs inhabiting the Kurast Docks actually seem to have a good beat on things and understand what has happened to the Zakarum church. I actually take it that the Kurast Docks was never really a center of Zakarum culture, but because it was more of a miniature port city, it was inhabited by more diverse people rather than just the Zakarum.
Yes Siaynoq the brain uses very small amounts of electricity to interact with the rest of the body and to compute thought processes. Such as when you feel the wind (or something) Electrical impulses from the nerve endings in your skin go into your brain telling you if it's cold/hot wind speed etc. etc.
The Human body is immensely complex...

actually siaynoq i answered, but perhaps u didn't understood me... as genesis said, the electro/chemical impulses in the brain ar far away from lightning storms and such... and it would be to cientific to justify it in diablo
on the other side, isn't the kurast docks people more of the old religion?? i think it was skatsimi the name... perhaps the stryline could go around the strugle between the old and the new ways... with new and totaly diferent skills depending on wich religion u choose!!!
^^^That's actually not a bad idea. Instead of choosing your character class right off at the beginning, you become your class. That way, you could choose whatever you wanted your character to look like in the beginning. You can choose your race, gender, and name in the beginning. And it should have some sort of face changing engine such as the one in Fight Night Round 3 or something, including changing color and length of hair (hair length will be changeable later on). Then you are given a certain amount of points to put into several stats such as: height, weight, bodyfat %, intelligence, wisdom, strength, mana, and dexterity.
Your character will start out as a child around the age of 10-13 and will slowly age as the game goes on. The first 5 years of the game will be training your stats, with your parents teaching you how to become the best warrior/sorcerer. This will be basic missions in the wilderness outside your village with missions similar to The Den of Evil. The final mission once you turn either 15 or 18, will be a fight to the death with another child, Spartan style.
In the beginning, depending on your strengths, you will come across some basic spells that focus on using those attributes. Then your parents and entire village will die at the hands of Diablo and his minions. Cain finds you and rescues you. Cain will then teach you about the different religions and will ask you which religion you feel most strongly towards, I think there should be about 10-12 religions. You won't be able to change this once you have chosen.
And now you vow to avenge your family's deaths!!!
Now as your character follows the religion of his choice, your character's body will change in ways that reflect his religion. A Priest of Rathma's body will slowly wither away to just pale flesh and bones. A person who follows the barbarian's religion will grow tall and massively strong. A Rogue's body will be pretty much the middle, with all the other religions falling on one end of the spectrum or the other. And of course, your spells will start to reflect this religion as well.
Sounds like an entirely different style of game huh? This would be a smart move on Blizzard's part, to do something like this with fully customizable characters. Since noone has done anything to this extent. They will be setting the bar once again, in RPG's.
But of course, this would take one hell of a game engine.

That is one of the best idea's I've heard in a long time but going to that extent would be difficult and going that far is the only way to make it good, anything less and you feel cheated.
But, putting "religion" into a game is risky, they would have to call it something different.
DX10 could "hopefully" play a role in D3 and could support the engine.
The main "flaw" in this idea would be people trying to be a barb or something and becoming something else and get really pissed.... they would have to make the choices black and white, like the quests have labels next to them saying what class they are for, for the lesser intelligent of course.
also many people wanna get right in on the action small petty quests get repetitive quite fast.

Yeah, they would change the word religion into something else, you know Blizz would think of something.
Yeah, Dx10 should definately play a part in D3.
Ok, I meant for the beginning quests to be simple, but not repetitive. Something like you are cleansing the area around your parents village, and are trying to find their bodies to give them a proper burial. It could be one giant quest that in the end you are granted +3 levels, and a bunch of skill points as you become an adult. I like the idea of finishing a quest giving you xp, while still killing monsters will give you xp as well, just not as much.
Now, the way I was thinking, is that the quests in the beginning give bonuses to a couple of attributes, but once you choose your "religion" there is a path of quests laid out for you (save for a few random quests).
So certain quests are for certain classes, but then you could also make it where certain quests are for good or evil and depending on the choice, your character's appearance will reflect that.
Another idea for your "awakening". Once Cain tells you to choose your "Religion", he gives you a quest to go find and read "The Book of xxxx" where xxxx is whatever god you will believe in. And when you finish reading your book, Diablo and Tyrael enter your mind and are battling each other. During this battle, they are both trying to convince you to join their fight against the other. Once you choose, then all the main bosses would be either Demons or Angels depending on the path you chose. The final quest would be where you either fight Diablo, or Tyrael (or another more powerful Archangel)

Ah, I didn't notice you had. Sorry about that. But I don't think there's anything wrong with having a little science in Diablo's explanations. I mean, there are exploding potions aren't there? I assume those are chemical in nature, not magical.

You're actually referring to the Taan mage clan which focused their studies around Skatsimi rites. The Gidbinn was a Skatsimi artifact. The inhabitants of the Kurast docks were just using the Skatsimi spell to strengthen the protective barrier around their city.
The tome you retrieve in Act III is also an artifact of the Old Religion. Lam Esem was a Skatsimi scholar who studied the effects of the Prime Evils on Sanctuary. Unfortunately, when you return the book, Alkor never really tells you what those insights into the Prime Evils are.
about the postions a rather think of them as alchemical instead of chemical... and yes, u may have some cience, but neurology??? isn't that too much??
thnx for the explanation about the skatsim... anyway doesn't change my idea, the old ways vs the new ways... something like hallmark "merlin" miniseries... i don't know if u saw it, but if u don't u should... the best fireball i ever seen on movies...
btw... this is an idea, and i know it may destroy and make colapse the all story of diablo, but i would like to see a good movie about it, but a good one... with good fx and stuff is easier than get killed, and has more perspective
