Alright...really sorry if this is a repeat...I've been gone for a few weeks now..I've looked through all the threads and havent seen anything on this yet...so..
Has anyone noticed the change in text on the main D3 page?
It reads:
"Two decades have passed since the demonic lords, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, set out across the world of Sanctuary on a vicious rampage, twisting humanity to their unholy will. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils, the memory fades slowly.
When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram Cathedral seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. This fire from the sky reawakens ancient evils and calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells once again."
So now we know that this couldn't possibly be Tyrael warning Deckard...which leaves the only two sound theories for now to be:
1.It is Imperius coming to Sanctuary
2.It is an entirely new evil we haven't heard or seen yet
upturned blade is not on his chest..altough the altar he stands on looks like an upturned sword...hmm
Remember that in the storyboard artwork thing you only saw the sword on his chest after the armor disappeared. You wouldn't really be able to tell anyway, all you can really see is a siouloutte
Yeah I added that picture to the opening post yesterday.
To me it looks like Imperius unless it's some completely new angel.
That's pretty Archangel of Warish armor. The sword or cross is gone but maybe the cross only appears sometimes. The description of him did say it blazed on his chest. Maybe it shows up when hes angry.
Anyway the structure he's standing on does look like a sword with the blade turned down. There also appears to be a portal behind him to me.
I'm thinking the angel there is Inarius. The portal behind him is clearly red, and red portals are known to maneuver beings to and from the Burning Hells. In the game, the cinematic indulges on the red portal by having faces and a tar-like consistency in it, but this picture isn't rendered using the games graphics so I'm sure many details are missing. So, since we know Inarius was taken to the Burning Hells, is it not also possible the Three wanted him there for a reason? They've had time to "coerce" Inarius to do their bidding, and demons are fans of getting other people/things to do their bidding.
Am I the only one noticing the three figures on top or am I making stuff up by seeing them there?
Well if we're going by what's said in the Diablo manual Inarius's wings have been ripped off and he has been mutilated.
He bound Inarius with tremendous chains and slowly tore the wings from the back of the angel.Great barbed hooks were then used to stretch out the once glowing skin and his features were distorted by vile powers. Many of the followers of Inarius were given as gifts to Baal and Diablo, but the rest were molded to match the bloated image of the now crippled angel. To this day, Inarius is said to be trapped in Hell within a chamber of mirrors, his eyelids torn from his face as he is forced to gaze upon his misshapen form for all eternity. His misguided followers now serve as Hell's taskmaster taking the anguish of their lost glory out upon the bodies of others.
Of course that's not to say things in the lore can't change.
I can't see why Inarius would want to work for the Burning Hells and destroy Sanctuary though.

Isn't the portal made by Tyrael to Harrogath red? I always thought red portals were just non player portals. The one Anya makes is red also.

The figure on the left kind of does look like a person/thing, the others though just look like some kind of stone architecture. It is odd though.
I had used a link that Atrumentis provided me for the original picture and his bandwidth went over so all his links were broken so I just added in a picture and forgot to update it.
I think the comet being Imperius is not too far fetched. I read the entire thread now and think out of all the ideas this seems to fit the best. It is said that Hell can be reached through the Tristram Cathedral, since it goes so deep. I think it is also true that somewhere within Sanctuary there is a way to get into the Heavens, probably not an expected place like a mountain top, but somewhere non the less. Maybe the comet was Imperius coming from that entrance?
Also, if Tyreal was in the cathedral talking to either Cain or Leah (or both) and something hit it (Imperius) it would make sense.
After 20 years the Council decides to "dispose" of the traitor. Imperius kicks out Tyreal. Than, Tyreal goes to Cain to talk about what happened and maybe warn him of the danger that is coming from Heaven (Imperius about to f$#k stuff up). Imperius doesn't like how Tyreal insists on helping the humans (scared that the heroes who beat the Prime Evils will stop him too?) still and descends from the High Heavens (with Council support since he is all high and mighty about Order) and in a fiery blaze crashes into the cathedral, maybe even attacking Tyreal. The pictures may be them having a confrontation or even a small battle. Leah being there is semi irrelevant cause her role (as of now) isn't as important as Cain's. Though she may be a "key" to continue the Horadrim and play Cain's role for the new heroes?
In any case I think that there is no way that the comet thing is Tyreal. Unless its both of them fighting from Heaven to Sanctuary and cause a huge crater. But that too seems dumb. It may just be some comet, filled with dark energy, maybe something we just have no clue about yet. But I would rather think its Imperius coming to lay the smack down on Tyreal. I think Imperius wants to destroy Sanctuary and thats what he is here to do!

I totally agree with all of that. Also, in some of the images it looks like imperius goes through some sort of metamorphosis and his wings change color, why do you think?

I don't know. Maybe he is going to fight him and needs to go into some other form? Has Tyrael ever changed from one state to another? I know he can disguise himself and what not, but Imperius wouldn't be in just a disguise cause he came in a fiery comet right?
This is how I think the opening 10min of Diablo 3 might be.
You create your hero, and see some cutscene on how you got to where you are and give a little back story on your personal character. Than, you see the comet fall (or if the cinematic is showing it happens pre- character creation than you hear about if from some NPC). You immediately start your first quest- Find out what happened to Cain. This is backed up by the fact the barbarian inside the cathedral seems to be low level and naked, but easily takes out everything within it. I think it will be the same as the Den of Evil in D2. Anyway, so you go in, find Cain like in the game play video, and when you defeat the last boss thing, you go back to town (Tristram I assume) and talk to Cain and find out what happened. BUT, I doubt Cain saw what the comet was and we won't "for sure" find out till mid act1 or even act2. Leah may speculate that she saw another angel maybe, but Cain would shut her up and say no way.
I may be way off here, but who knows? I wouldn't mind the first 10min of the game throwing me into the epic cathedral and finding that huge thing. Maybe a few "side quests" before you actually go in, probably find the way in and blah blah. Like how there is many parts to finding Cain in act1 of D2? Your guess is as good as mine.
I like your version of this! Altough if Imperius is one of the main villains in D3, I don't think that they will reveal him in an opening cinematic (just a thought). This brings me to my other opinion: the comet is Tyrael! I would really like to see HIM in an opening cinematic!
As for the quests, I don't think you know that Cain is down there, because we can see that the Barb is surprised when he meets Cain!
If you have ever saved Cain in D2 than you know that he really doesn't sound too surprised, more serious than anything. I think they wouldn't actually show Imperius so soon, hence me thinking that Cain won't know what it was, just say it was some horrible force that attacked Tyrael and the way to where they are is blocked off. I highly doubt he would be shown so early. Like I said, mid to end of act1 sounds more reasonable, just show his presence not fully introduce him as an enemy.
It very well may be Tyrael.. But I can't think of a way to make it work, especially considering that we aren't discussing just events here, it has to work with the game, probably early on since it's shown in the trailer and that Leah saw it happen and that we meet Leah and Cain pretty early on. If we start in Tristram than we will find out some details about it as soon as we log in for the first time.
Well I do think they said the Cinematic Teaser was clips from the overall storyline so it could happen pretty late in the game or maybe after the first act or so. You never know.
When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram Cathedral seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. This fire from the sky reawakens ancient evils and calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells once again.
Imperius regards humans as an abomination because of the demon blood that flows through their veins, but I believe within the storyline he will come to understand them.

Different beings.
Inarius is pretty much a fallen angel imprisoned in hell right now.
Imperius is part of the Angiris Council.
Actually Imperius despises Inarius.

Thanks for pointing that out, I thought I had changed the opening post.

I have that on the first post and it's the same on the Main D3 site, maybe I'm not getting what you're saying...
