I got 2 questions. The rogue citadel that marius is at in the intro cinematic before he heads east, is it know where exactly that is on the sactuary map? And also, i'm curious as to what/where marius is at in the intro cinematic and the epilogue at the end, if it is even known for sure.
yeah wasn't sure, i've been pretty hardcore into d2 lore and everything and it never really occurred to me that i didn't know either of those and thought if anyone did
He was most likely in some kind of inn or tavern near the rogue encampment in the beginning.
It can be assumed that due to the powerful evil contained within the soulstone drove him slightly mad(well really insane), thus he ended up in a nut house near the end.
After seeing what he had, who can blame him for going crazy?
As to exactly where either of those places are...who knows.
Hey, Avarice, please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think he was wondering if he was in some manner of tavern in the beginning, or if he was crazy- it was all kind of self-evident What he wants to know is the locations of the places he was in, methinks.

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
If you look at it that way, it could be a tavern just outside of Tristam. Diablo did walk east, so he could of meet Marius just as Diablo started his tour of evil!
WHat I want to know and that I know will never be explanded is who are the clocked riders that are said to be about in D1.

The end place he is in is just some random sanitarium. He probably committed a crime and acted especially crazy just so he could get thrown in there.
The first place, he mentions, "...my earlier days at the Rogue Citadel..." give or take a few of those words.

I agree it's some random sanitarium, but I don't think he would have to commit a crime. He would only have to recall what he saw. " So I was in the tomb of Tal Rasha (which no one believes is real) with this guy who had horns and spikes grow out of his head, and Tyrael the Arch Angel was there, they had this fight see, and then I took the stone from Tal Rasha and released Baal. THen laters my friend with the horns and Baal went to kurast and summon a portal to hell with Mephisto, then my friend turned into DIablo and went through the portal. I would have to just like Tyrael told me to but I was too scared."
Who in their right mind would believe that?

It is an outcast hide out and tavern I'm pretty sure. Marius mentions spending time with outcasts. There is an ugly male dwarf-like character in the building. The Rogues are not particularly fond of men let alone disfigured ones. Also It doesn't look very impressive, it doesn't look much like a Citadel, and if it was how come there is not one single rogue in it?

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
all good points. As Ansy said it could have been right outside of tristram. After the dark wander left tristram, we know he was headed east to release baal. I was looking at the sanctuary map and had a thought. As marius followed diablo out of the citadel in the cinematic there was snow so i'm guessing that it is some where in the mountains right in between trsitram and monastery. It makes sense since the only passage toward the desert and lut golein was in monastery through the catacombs.
