After maxing out all 5 character classes in normal mode, I decided to try a
hardcore demon hunter. Somehow blizz must have known it was my first hardcore
character and decided to throw a pack of 6 teleporting scavengers my way.
Not only do they run fast, but the can teleport! Seeing as how he had only
the gear he found, and this was in the area after you cross the bridge out of town,
he was ill prepared for this encounter.
The teleports pretty much nullified the caltrops as they would just
teleport behind me. Entagling shot didn't last very long either. Needless
to say he ran way like a screaming girl. He did manage to kill them all,
but only after kiting them back to town area and got some help from the
guards at the bridge.
Definitely going to be a different experience playing hardcore. For those
of you who haven't considered it, definitely give it a try. You will feel
quite vulnerable for the 1st one you roll. And for those of you who don't know,
the gold/shared stash does not share between normal & hardcore, which
is a good thing. You will be able to share between hardcore characters though.
The problem with hardcore is that once you tried it softcore loses all its appeal. At least thats happened to me in d2. The simple itemhunt just isnt enough to keep me for more than 2 months, but hc is addictive
That's the whole idea of HC. Some people love and thrive off the rush of being vulnerable with death being a real consequence while some prefer to be SC. If you love HC, SC will never be the same.
I wonder if they should make an "ultimate hardcore", where you can't share gold/items between your own hardcore characters, and
also no trade or AH. I suppose it could be self imposed except for the gold. We'll I guess you could do the gold as well...just write down the amount of gold before playing the character and before you log off and keep track of it manually. If the first hardcore character was treated this way and you make them pay for all the crafting upgrades, it would fit the "ultimate hardcore" idea....hmmm..might have to try this.

I don't see blizzard implementing this either..just throwing the idea out there. I haven't given hardcore much thought until I actually tried one, but I liked the idea of vulnerability, and trying to expand on that by seeing what else in gameplay would make the character even more vulnerable..hence the "ultimate" idea. I personally like the character creation & initial leveling process, so having a character permanently die & having to start over is okay. Of course I might change my mind after one I've played for awhile bites the dust.
Another idea would be "Reckless Hardcore" ...the rule is you have to equip the last thing that dropped, regardless of what it is. You would probably have to exclude white items as that might be too much of a pain to constantly swap. With this gameplay, you are absolutely going to die. The fun would be how far you could go before certain death.
My current plan is to roll a HC Wizard along side my SC Wizard. So ... should HC die, I have something I can immediately fall back on to continue playing.
This is of course assuming I'll be able to stop playing on my SC just to re-run content in HC. Shall have to wait and see...

my first Hardcore will 99.9% chance die in a furious death whit me rageing and trowing stuff around xD
love it lol
I'd say more like 1/4 personally, I'm pretty sure they edited alot of stuff out for the beta as well, to make it more PG'ish since beta is random.

He means 1/3 of ACT1 normal, not 1/3 of the whole game in normal

I really don't see them doing that.
