I lurk more than I post lately. I actually did manage to hop on Diablo 3 yesterday for a bit. Long enough to get my butt handed to me by Diablo a few times in Nightmare before moving on to other games I need to finish.
I've been lurking more because of finals, I have this one particularly annoying subject I can't seem to approve and it's getting ridiculous, so I'm just gong to use brute force to see if that technique works, but is hard, because it requires me to use all my time and all my will power (which isn't much) to studying this...
yeah, that was a convoluted way to say I hate the subject
I would post more, but I'm ham-strung getting ready for the classes I'll be teaching in the upcoming semester (on top of trying to get some D3 in when I can). Of course I have a terrible habit of simply feeding the trolls around here too.
I concur with SV, the toxic hating atmosphere around here is bothersome.
Personally i don't post in this thread cause i don't know anyone here, don't go to socialize on Diablofans - And i just generally use this site to discuss or just read news. It's not my social fix
Pfft.. you just posted! Thus you've come to socialize! Huzzah!
I don't think lying to the public is illegal, and sadly as for defamation that claim seems pretty easy to stand by.
"Kids get their fingers stuck in some toys." That's like saying "Sometimes people cut themselves with knives, so we're recalling them."
If I had a nickel for every time I got my finger stuck in some part of a toy...
Something tells me that The Jim Henson company could go after Chick Fill A, considering the convenience of the timing of Jim Henson Company cutting the partnership and the toys just happening to be found to be faulty at the exact same time, and the remarks Dan Cathy made coming to light.
I don't know any court north of the Mason Dixon line that would accept that.
Man the world dropped off the edge here, hardly no one posts anymore.
Meh. Nothing to really post about. Before D3 came out there were topics about -everything-. Now it's "What price is this item?" and "Is the GAH dead with the RMAH taking lead?" and other such bullshit. Sorry, but I miss the old days.
I'm rather amused by the amount of press the whole Chicken scandal is getting. I don't know if I like the new "homophobic and proud," movement it's spurred, but I don't see their gain from it either.
What really annoys me is when people use things like freedom of speech, or the bible to defend their bigotry and hate mongering.
I really hate all sensationalized crap like this that hits facebook. I don't think "likes" are going to cure cancer, stop African warlords, show Jesus you love him, legalize gay marriage, stop puppies from being killed, prevent global warming, etc. and I tried to stay out of it but stumbled across a really ignorant comment of someones that I had to respond to.
I'm blue in this discussion, obviously.
It let to him claiming he was just expressing his right to free speech and he believes gay couples should have a right to get married because the government shouldn't be able to tell people what they can and cant do, then he followed that up with how it personally disgusts him to no end. So after I took his broken logic and beat him over the head with it for about 10 minutes and he realized he didn't have a solid argument left he started resulting to personal attacks and that's when I just left and made sure to point out to him that's how someone who just realized how dumb they sound responds.
It ended up with me having about 8 likes and him with a sore anus. (sort of ironic)
Yeah, the punch-line is that people like that don't think they're being dumb. Nor do they seem capable of absorbing the breathtaking hypocrisy they present to the rest of the world. I'm ever so glad to not have joined the facebook phenomenon. It would have likely cost me my job several times over.
That was a good decision on your part. I regret it also. I don't like the thought of all of my information being there in a database wrapped up in a neat bow. It's too late now though.
I realized very early on about how to talk. I don't give my company name out anywhere online, ever. I don't give out my address or any hints aside from the whole "I live in west virginia, and America" thing, but considering that's one in 1.8 million people, I think I'm safe there.
As for the chick fil a thing, what annoys me is that people think chick fil a is just voicing their opinions. Well, those opinions are backed by 5 million dollars to hate groups to get rid of gay marriage.
Back! LOL! Had an awesome vacation. Got the best coyote photo and some of the best Yellowstone hot springs photos I've ever had. Enjoyed being more active so much that I have taken up running. Dad and I decided to hand build stripper kayaks together this winter. Got back to my home state, had a few good days and then Chic-fil-a Day upset my view of culture, and I'm now struggling to tolerate some of the people around me. How can you pretend that standing up to marginalize people and keep them from obtaining legal and social equality is a cause worth championing.
For the record, proudly bi, and in a serious. long term same sex monogomous relationship, and watching my colleagues and "friends" post pro-Chic-Fil-A crap all over my news feed. Some of the people who were posting it are people I have visited and done hours of free networking and computer setups.
So yep, it's like "Thanks for all the help! But you're still a second class citizen, and the government needs to tell you who you can and can't marry to protect you from your own sinful ways."
Still believe in everything I said back in that religious debate here, about respecting conservatives and trying to co-exist with them. But it's very, very hard right now. Because the sentiments do not seam at all mutual.
I probably won't be around much for a while. Works crazy busy, and life is even busier. I've not really gamed in a few weeks, and not missing it very much. I'll probably be back in Diablo during winter though, when the outside isn't so toasty warm and enjoyable.
Also, a couple of the people gloating about going to stand in line at Chic-fil-a for 4 hours were teachers. Can you imagine being a young student, trying to come to terms with your sexuality in a little rural town? Then the very people who are supposed to be instructing you and preparing you for your future attend a thinly veiled protest basically attacking their right to equality. It's irresponsible and ridiculuos.
When I grew up here, everyone jsut pretended to be straight while they were growing up. Then years later, when I started reconnecting with people online and stuff, it turned out that several of my classmates were lesbian and gay. And they are all like "I don't know how you can stand to live there and be out." And I always say its a nice community and I feel very welcome, and that its not like it was when we were growing up.
But I guess it still is. And there. Through ranting about bigots on a video game site. I needed that.

Moving up in the world Freddy?
I concur with SV, the toxic hating atmosphere around here is bothersome.
My strategy is to stay positive and post what's on my mind without resorting to insults.
Pfft.. you just posted! Thus you've come to socialize! Huzzah!
That is all for today... in this thread at least...
Glad to see my grad students have good taste this year.
I was surprised that one of my employees was actually defending Chick Fil A today.
Then they had some bullshit "Eat At Chick Fil A Day" today. I'm appalled that people are proud to be hate mongers. Fucking bastards.
But yea, here's another picture, because we all love pictures.

I also miss my Speed Vision...

LOL! I'll still be around... just, quieter.
And for a few days, bitter-er.
