I don't know if this applies to cats as well, but dogs, they leave their asses full of shit after doing number 2, and then they jump up your bed or any other furniture and put their asses on it. I can't take it.
Well if your dog is groomed properly, that shouldn't happen. Unless of course your dog has the runs, then in that case there's something else that should be looked after...
I have a cat and a dog (Farnsworth and Turner), they are both awesome and they both love each other. Actually, I say that Farnsworth is Turner's cat, because he prefers to cuddle with Turner more than with me.
Everyone is different in what they like so I don't think it's fair to say cats are only a woman's pet. Some people like cats, some dogs, some like both the same. I think it also has a lot to do with your living conditions and how much time you have to spend with a pet.
As for cats, litter boxes are really gross to me and I'd rather clean up my dog's mess in the yard than clean the litter box. I think it's more the litter though, I hate the dusty clay-based litter and the only reason I use it is because my cat was a bit older when I got him and he won't go in the box if I use anything else. :/
I would like to remind everyone that I wholeheartedly believe that anyone can own a cat; my friends have this odd idea that any guy that owns a cat is either homosexual or weird. I put up the poll so when I show this to them, I can say, "well, I guess there are about 107 people that think like I do."
And I don't like dogs. I'm sorry, I just don't. When I look at a dog, I see a sad, needy human. When I look at a cat, I see a best friend who is independent to the extent that you grant it. A dog doesn't know how to let go (some dog owners really like that and I can understand), but a cat is empathetic without necessarily showing it.
I connect with cats on a psychological level; we don't need someone there all the time, but we appreciate your company when you are there. Plus you're warm and we like that.
Edit:
Well, not everyone. Cats don't take any shit.

What me and my mates philosophized over while heavily intoxicated and what we (in our own opinions) found to be quite true is that people buy dogs if they want another family member. Dogs are like another member of the family, they put their life before yours. I'm not sure about some countries but in Melbourne Australia we get a lot of bullshit on our news, mostly crap that doesn't effect anyone but we do get the occasional story where the pet dog gave up its life protecting a young child in the backyard from a venomous snake (while killing the snake in the process of course).
Now I'm no dog or cat expert and I like cats, though I do prefer dogs. That doesn't mean I'll never get a cat. But how often do you get reports of cats doing something heroic for their owners?
Cats are awesome but I think they're just something you get if you want a pet, something that you don't really have to watch for most of the day because they wont stop friggin' trying to eat the damn Easter eggs that you leave on the ground because you're too lazy to pick them up but then you realize that you should probably go and pick them up because they're not very nice for the dogs body.
Cats are for women? I think not! It all comes down to personal preference!

"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
I appreciate docile things, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. Almost every cat I've met (and I've met many, many cats due to my mom working at a cat-exclusive veterinary office for twenty years) has been completely chill and laid back, no problems at all.
I've met dogs who just aren't laid back. When I see a laid back dog, I think that's a beautiful thing. I hate it when dogs are "excited;" I just become disengaged and annoyed. I don't think it's "cute" when a dog jumps on me as if I was Dog-Christ reincarnated.
Fuck, maybe I was just born to like cats.

No problem with that at all mate. I hate it when my dog jumps up when people enter our house. I suppose it's because I'm a lazy owner (in the sense that I don't punish him for doing such things as jumping on peoples legs as they walk in)
Cats do seem to be rather chill, cool, calm and collected in comparison to some dogs. Of course there's the exceptions on both sides. With dogs its really how you train them I guess, with some dogs anyway, some are just awesome and are just so chill that they don't need any training. Sort of like they've done it all before in an earlier life lol.
EDIT: When I say punish I mean doggy punishment, not harsh stuff. I'm no spastic.

Is there a certain line you can't cross when it comes to punishment?
I mean, let's say you have a puppy and it poops in the house. In training it to not do that, what would you do or not do to teach them that it can't do that in the house?
The way that my friend and his dad handles it is that, if the load is "fresh," they take the puppy to the mess, put their nose in it, give them a reasonable strike, and put them outside for a good amount of time.
Would you consider that crossing the line or is that well within reasonable means of punishment?
And I'll let you know that, on any given day in Washington State, USA that isn't late spring or summer, it's probably not warm; in fact, it's probably pretty chilly.

That's exactly what we do, we'll with that situation anyway. With stuff like jumping on people as they walk in we only do stuff like a reasonable strike and outside for a bit.
