So after the last week of experiencing terrible pain on the left side of my face I had to make an appointment with the dentist to have my wisdom teeth removed. The problem lies that The only time they would be able to get me in is in fact on May 14. Terrible luck on my part but I was wondering how long I would be out of commission...and do you guys think I would be able to play D3 still on release?
Good, that is what I was hoping for, but after reading up on it via the internet people were making it out like i would be in immense pain for up to a week.
Good news is you'll be able to play D3 all you want. You'll be in no condition to do anything else for a while.
I remember when my sister had hers removed in high school, she was home for at least a couple days in mortal agony. I'm amazed I'm 27 and haven't had even a hint mine need to be removed.
I had all four of them removed earlier this year, two at the time.
Would've had no problem at all playing afterwards, frankly it'd just be nice to have something exciting to focus on.
I wasn't really experiencing much pain, took some painkillers now and then and made sure I chewed my food on the opposite site of where the wounds were healing.
P.S. Make sure you flush thoroughly morning and evening, you DON'T want any infections in there. Also, don't eat rice or other stuff that might lodge itselft in where your teeth used to be, it takes a while for the "craters" to even out
I have also had my wisdom teeth removed. If you surgery is the 14th you will be out of commission for i would say the entire day because of the pain and the medication. The next few days if they give you Vicoden or some other med to help deal with the pain get high and play some D2. I didn't feel ready to do physical activities for about 5-7 days, but computer games you are good to go.
You'll be able to play... if you're awake. After I had mine out I was in and out of sleep for about three days straight, due to heavy medication. I've heard others say that they were fine afterwards and no more pain than what a normal Advil or something would cure. A the worst, you can play between naps.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
I am just hoping I can keep up with my friends playing the game, would be terrible to fall behind and have to play through with either random people or by myself.

Well, it wouldn't be terrible, would it? Almost all of my D2 time was spent playing with random people, and it was usually a blast.

At the most a couple hours afterwards and you'll be fine to play. You won't be fine to eat a lot of foods though =D No drinking out of straws / sucking on foods as you might pull out the clots where your teeth were and then your jaw bone will dry rot (I like painting happy pictures).
And don't worry if you have more than 4 wisdom teeth, I had 5 pulled and I think I have two more growing back.

Man I had my wisdom teeth out a few years ago and they were growing in sideways...SIDEWAYS. It hurts like fuck and will definitely knock the wind out of your sails. The good thing is probably one of the only things youll be up for is playing a shit ton of D3. Sounds like good timing if you ask me!

This. When I had mine done there was no pain thanks to the drugs. It was basically a free holiday, got to lie around all week.
But PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD, if they give you Panadeine, only have it for a few days then go to normal Panadol. The Codeine fucks with your body, I won't go into details here but I will say that it starts with con and ends in pation. Worst pain, would rather have more teeth removed then go through that again.
I had my bottom two removed, seperately due to severe impaction. It hurts but it goes away after about 2-3 days. I didn't use pain meds because they normally don't work on me unless its advil for a headache. Swelling takes about a week. You will still be a little sensitive ever after the pain fades, so I would be careful with what you eat and do for about 2 weeks. It can take up to two full months before it is comnpletely healed. Completely healed means you could jab sharp piece of nut or chip crumb into the surgical site and it won't do anything other than piss you off.
If you're unlucky like me and happen to have a small swollen spot that gradually gets bigger and worsens with little to no pain, then the dentist or you might have gotten something stuck there that caused a nasty infection. Trust me, I know from experience. I was more than happy to pay the $11,000 USD medical bill to the doctor that found the source of the problem (right underneath where my wisdom tooth was) and fixed it for me. I suffered for 8 months because of the shitty oral surgeon. Nice guy and all, but he can kiss my ass if he thinks I'm letting him back into my mouth after that.

You'll be able to play video games just fine, hell when I got my wisdom teeth removed I suffered 0 pain whatsoever. Never had to even take a tylenol or advil etc
The entire day that I got my wisdom teeth removed is as though it never happened. I can't recall anything about it. They give you some pretty powerful stuff.
The day after I was fine though. Unless you have to have some pretty extensive surgery you should be too. A friend of mine had to have bits of compacted teeth cut out and he was out of commission for a few days.
I had a friend who was eatin' nachos the same day as his surgery, dentist was old school with a chisel and hammer too.
Oh, and I had another friend that got his wisdom teeth removed got a prescription for Vikadine, when he came to, he realized he could suddenly do the splits. No lie.
And yet ANOTHER friend who I had to personally drive drooled on my first friend's bed as he was napping off the drugs. Imagine blood red drool!

Hey, it's a great excuse for sitting around on the computer playing Diablo III and getting out of doing anything for a few days!
But really, I've known people who have gotten them removed and were fine the next day. One guy I knew had all 4 removed at once and he even walked home on his own and didn't seem any different (aside from the gauze-filled face). Also knew a guy at school who came in the day after and seemed fine, eating his mushy corn crap for lunch.
Hopefully it goes well and you're not in too much pain/too drugged up afterward to be able to enjoy the game.
You could be lucky like me. I was passed out for about 3 hours after the surgery from the anesthesia because I had all 4 done but after that wore off I was fine. I was at lacrosse practice later that afternoon and eating solids the next day. Never had to use a pain pill (they gave me hydros) so I got to keep those for other stuff, and never had any swelling. My friend, on the other hand, was out of commission from pain, swelling, tenderness, etc for about 3 days. You could play a computer game like others have said but basically nothing else.
a few hours. You'll have a great time playing D3, it will hopefully take your mind off the swelling. Depending on if your teeth are impacted or not you may be eating soft food for a few weeks :P. I got mine cut out when i was 17 and couldn't eat anything but mashed potatoes and apple sauce for a month because of the swelling.
