Can't feed the homeless people, kids included. What kind of law is this? What is the purpose of this? This is corruption. If this was all people with homes and jobs having a community event in the park and a barbeque for free it'd be fine, but because they're homeless people they don't deserve food?
Yeah apparently it's a city ordinance because that park is close to the city hall downtown and they don't want homeless people hanging out there because tourists see it.
My first thought was: Mkay, and then I saw it in the smaller title
OT: It's awful that they're homeless to begin with but I can agree with the law here, I don't want packs of homeless people to block view, one sure, but an army?

Yeah and this is the whole point of a concept called "rule of law". The police is a governmental body that enforces the law. The police can not have any say on the law whatsoever, because of another concept, the separation of powers. Both concepts are central to any non-tyrannical state. One (democratically elected) body makes the law and decisions, second puts the law and decisions into action and third enforces the laws and decisions.
The enforcing body (police, courts, etc.) can not have any say on what they do. They must act according to the laws and policies set forth irrespective of their own personal beliefs and ideas. A police officer can't make the decision on who is breaking the law and who is not. The law makes that decision for them. That's what the police officers I know say is the hardest part of their job: sometimes acting against their own moral code because they have to. For example, not all officers are against cannabis, but all of them have to enforce the anti-cannabis laws that are set forth.
here, there is a law that allows police to legally ignore crimes of a lesser offense if done out of ignorance or complicated circumstances (more bums come out of nowhere and nom on your picanic basket), those guys are probably under pressure to enforce this law so blatantly disregarded, and don't want to waste food in the process. Its usually not as simple as it seems, but if it is, that's probably the reason those people joined the police(bum food!perfect for the immoral munchies).
I don't really see what's so wrong with the law. If they have proof that the homeless people repel the tourists, then people who have businesses in that area are going to be harmed, and I'd rather benefit people actually doing something and trying to get food on their table, rather than just sit there and beg for shit instead of getting off your ass and trying as hard as you can to get your shit together. Stop feeling so bad for the homeless, most of them actually deserve it.
Well, as someone who works in Orlando, it makes sense. Orlando is VERY protective of it's industry. It's what keeps the city and much of the surrounding area, afloat. Tourism is all we have in Orlando. So, Orlando makes sure that the tourists have a nice time in wonderland.

This law is telling you, that you do not have the freedom to feed someone who can't afford it themselves. You're telling me that's not ridiculous? Or impeding on your rights and freedoms? Or possibly even hindering you practicing your religion? Charity is a big part of Christianity.
So all those things are fine because it protects all the tourist based corporations working in the city so they can keep rolling in the cash? It seems pretty sick to me. A select few make tons of money which makes the Orlando economy a lot more stable, but people need to starve in the long run?
Let's just sweep up these homeless people and put them where people don't have to see them, it might make tourists feel a little guilty spending all that money on vacation. That's a horrible mindset, what's next just ship them off to "community centers" that way no one ever has to see them again? Give them a nice refreshing gas shower? Then they can be permanently homed in one of FEMA's plastic homes.
I for one want to be able to feed as many people as I want with my own money on public land. Ordinance or law or not, this is just stamping on our rights and it's happening more and more.
They should set up a soup kitchen in the shitty part of the town. Solves both problems.
Then you're telling people they have to go to X place to eat. You're telling humans, with rights, and feelings, even children, that they aren't to be seen in public eating because they're disgusting to society. That's awful. The problem here is allowing states and cities to make their own laws, all hail police states. Though if it was all federal law we probably wouldn't be allowed to feed the homeless at all, or even dance in public.
I'm not telling them anything. If they want the free food they can go and get it. They shouldn't all gather around tourists and ruin their holidays. You're only seeing this from one side Daemaro.
They aren't gathering around tourists, it's just in an area frequently traversed by tourists. They are in a PUBLIC park, that means anyone is free to come and go, being fed by some people doing charity work.
I was waiting for this to turn violent. It never did. Not even a "get your hands off me bitch." Why those people would just go with them so peacefully is beyond me.I
So, my thoughts on the matter are, if the law says don't feed them in the park do it somewhere else..... You tell a homeless guy they giving food away to homeless within 5 miles and he doesn't move, then he's lazy and we know why he's on the streets. But, realy people want to help them give them the American dream, an opertunity to better themselves and their conditions. This goes beyond teach a man to fish I'm talking about give the man a place to fish. Alas the world is not perfect and we each have to pick the fight we can and/or will fight. Me personally I'm looking to fight the fight of the spirit. (pm me if you want to know what I mean)

Well because as soon as it turns violent they teargas, mace, taze and club you and then everything they're doing is justified because those people are all crazed rioters.
They justify it by saying there are enough places around town that do feed the homeless. Churches and specified locations around Orlando ARE allowed to feed the homeless. They are supposed to go to these places for food, not to random people.
