I like stories, and if a movie is interesting and good at telling stories, I'll like it. I've read the first 3 volumes of the Priest comic and it's got some interesting character development. If the movie is anything like the comic, I'll probably watch it. Predictability isn't exactly a fault (M. Night Shyamalan, very little predictability, very irritating), and 3D's almost always a retarded gimmick now. Original art is incredibly rare and I don't expect it when I go to see a movie that has ads on tv. The amount of negativity in this review makes it seem like you expect everything to be new and different. I've helped my brother with his songwriting, and if there's anything I learned from music, it's that everything is derivative of everything else. Having similarities with something else doesn't make it bad art.
For clarification: I've not seen it yet. I could easily believe it's dreadful though.
off topic, I saw sucker punch a while back and now that it's stewed in my head for a bit, the movie was pretty awesome. It didn't make much sense, but that's not what it was going for. It was just a fun, good story.
I'm just wondering what you expect everyone to think when every movie review you post is always negative. And you have posted a few of them.
Becuase I only post a review if I didn't like the movie? I don't think it's really worth it to post a topic having "Wow, it was really nice" as the body of it.

I don't understand why not.

Damn. I was actually sad when i missed up the Priest premiere. And i thought the trailers were good. But seriously man, I'll just wait for it to come on T.V or something now.
But anyways, i missed Sucker Punch, Pirates of the Caribbean and Thor as well. So doesn't actually matter.

What I openly criticize is when a mediocre, overproduced and over-hyped film is hailed as if it reinvented the cinematic art form itself (crap like Avatar or Inception to name two recent examples).
They were both still decent films. Calling them 'crap' is just funny. Especially Avatar, that had some of the nicest eye candy I've ever seen. It was revolutionary for having spectacular effects yet preserving the actors facial expressions, also the 3D is pretty damn impressive. All of the machinery was designed to actually make sense, and if we were advanced enough to actually build them they would be functional. It was a very well thought out film and in no way mediocre. I'm not saying it's flawless but there's a lot of truth in the reviews.
Inception had some overacting but was still a very enjoyable film for me, far better than the usual Hollywood crap.
Kinda off topic but, some friends and I went and saw Sucker Punch and I absolutely loved it even though almost everyone we went with didn't like it. I want to dress up as baby doll for this Halloween
xo
This was awesome! I loved the contrast between the sombre mood of the institute and the zany fantasy land where they could do anything. It was really fresh and original, and you can't go wrong with undead steampunk nazi zombies.
'Crap' is actually quite an understatement. Visuals with no substance(that is, story/plot-wise) usually just annoy me. A few exceptions in my list but avatar and inception certainly are not the exceptions.

Well the story in Avatar could use some work but I still found it enjoyable. I never watched Inception for the effects (although they were cool) but I found it to be rather thought provoking and original. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Artistically, Avatar is a masterpiece in the truest sense. I could watch that movie on mute.

Those films don't qualify as art in your eyes? Wow, thats quite the set of standards you got there.

That will usually be the moment when I flip to the discovery channel and find that computer imagery isn't quite there yet.
Na just kidding. I can appreciate the work behind Pandora(?) but for the same reasons that I don't lie on my back and stare at the sky for 3 hours(I do it for 30 min max usually), i keep away from movies like avatar. No offense to the sky of course, it is way better and consistent.
Maybe I can watch it for the second time in 10 minutes slots, when I will have forgotten what nonsense the previous minutes were like. Then I will be amazed again and then subsequently annoyed once more. Given my memory, that process will probably take decades or me getting Alzheimer.
@Critter- indeed my friend, indeed. Nothing gets as opinionated as movie tastes, likes and dislikes.

Generally that believes on one's standards.
Avatar had horrible story, the 3D visuals were done worse than in Star Wars at times, and the point it was trying to make was stupid and downright offensive.
Inception didn't impress me at all, I am still trying to figure out what the issue was. It wasn't confusing or complicated at all as I was promised, it didn't bring anything to the table that Matrix and other movies didn't (eXistenZ did it better IMO), and nothing really happened in it - it was kinda short in terms of content and wasn't really about anything.

I think watching Avatar on mute is a decision any wise man would make.
