This is a discussion thread not pertaining to any specific contest, since I don't have a specific one in mind at this time (and by that I mean I'm not sure on which contest idea to execute at this time).
What you guys will do in this thread is suggest contests you would like to see done on Diablo Fans. These won't just be random contests where you guys vote, I post the results, and that's that. They're gonna be a bit more intricate, a bit larger, and will get the "winner" something in return. By contests I don't mean that YOU as a member are a participant, submitting some kind of work that will eventually get something as cool as say, a Diablo shirt or something that fancy. That's because I don't have the cash, the resources, or the frikkin' interest to send any of you anything for winning any specific contest (they won't take any considerable amount of work on your part, anyway, so you wouldn't even deserve a candy bar).
Basically, what I have in mind are a few things similar to the Rate a Diablo Character Contest we had not too long ago, one which I did. Now that I'm "Community Manager", I'm officially responsible for creating contests, polls, and for the community, pretty much. Contests I have in mind are "Rate a Quest", "Rate a Rune Word", "Rate a Skill", and other "Rate A"s, but that's just very rough, and that's why I need YOUR input, YOUR suggestions, and YOUR brainstorming, because really, what we care about, is what YOU would like to have done, and what YOU would like to participate in as a Diablo Fans member.
The thing that will make these things "bigger" in a sense, is the "Betting" system that I'm going to implement in any contest that will be held in the future. What will happen is that, say we're doing a Rate a Quest contest. You would send me, via PM, which quest you think is going to win. You will also send me a second and a third choice. If your FIRST choice wins, you get, say, 10 points. If your second choice wins, you get 7 points; if your third wins, you get 3 points, and if none of the quests you chose wins, you get 1 points just for taking the trouble to vote and participate. After several contests are held, the person with the highest score gets something like VIP (a color not used by any other staff member, and a custom title), or something. We're not sure yet, but you WILL get something for it.
Now, say you predicted The Den of Evil to win, and you had it as your first choice. If you give The Den of Evil a 100/100 score, and you give every other quest a 10, or a 0, or a very low score or something, I will not count your vote. I reserve the right to not count any vote that I want (I won't be a dick in this, I'm gonna be fair, impartial, and only not-count votes who I think are really suspect, in one way or another). You will also give a short reason to back up your vote to make the contests more "rich", in a sense. Users who have less than 50 posts won't be eligible. That's to prevent people creating accounts solely to vote, and it's to ensure that the user voting is a somewhat involved, active, and relevant member here on the site. 50 posts is nothing hard..if a new member decides to register, there are a shitload of threads to post in, and 50 posts can be attained in 2-3 days. That shouldn't be a problem since each voting thread will be open for that long.
That's pretty much all I want to say at this point, so please, start tossing in some ideas. The person who suggests the best idea gets 15 points already. (All your ideas might be terrible, which then means that I'll just put up a contest that "I" want, and none of you get the bonus, but it's an incentive for you guys to give it your best shot).
I was thinking of something more fun. Like a 'revamped D2 skill' that people would suggest and then get voted on. Only one suggestion from each user to limit entries and make the list shorter.
Or maybe do 'revamped skill' suggestions for one char at a time.
I would like to see a trivia game about Diablo lore in a similar set up to Kaylyso's RTOA.
Set up different categories and then in each category have different difficulties. Have questions worth 1 point that you should be able to answer if you have played the games, 2 points for questions that would require you to have a slight understanding of lore (probably have read parts of the wiki or pay attention in the threads that deal with lore) and a question worth 3 points that would show mastery of Diablo lore.
For example the category could be Monsters:
1) This boss is on the 5th floor of the tower cellar. -The Countess
2) She is the daughter of Mephisto and main protagonist in the Sin War Trilogy. -Lilith.
3) These undead creatures served as minions of Lucion during the Sin War Trilogy and are resurrected by the Kiss of Mephisto. -Morlu
(I hope these are all right, I haven't read the Diablo books in a while and don't have access to them).
Of course an idea like this would require people to be on the honor system to not just google the answers (although it might be easy to tell if somebody who has shown no knowledge of diablo lore starts answering level 3 questions).
Then you could make every 3 points in the trivia game equal 1 point in the overall contest, or something like that depending on how often you want to update the trivia and how hard the questions are going to be.
Yeah, there is no way to enforce a no googling rule, I just really liked the RTOA and figured this would be a good chance to get something similar going.
For maybe a small contest worth a few points you could try a best Diablo themed sig or avatar competition.
Or you could give 1 or two points for becoming the treasure in the "treasure hunt" thread, that is if I can bring it back this time.
I need to be more creative, all my ideas are just to bring back old competitions.
I like your ideas, don't get me wrong, but signature making and all those things are things not EVERYONE can do, and that kinda defeats the purpose of this whole thing, y'know?

USELESS!
Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions
Example:
"What is your favorite cat?"
A. Domestic Cat
B. Wild Cat
C: Tiger
D: Lion
E: Leopard
F: Cheetah
*A week passes of betting and voting*
Then at the end of the week(or w/e time limit) you announce the results and the point system is handed out as per normal.
Then again, this would mean that the poll system is possible and that it is limited to IP...
BAH, at least I came up with something.
... I forgot to add girls to that list... darnit.
