If you want money pick minig thats important, sell the ore and once you gathered some money you can start business at the auction house.
Buy things that are listed cheap and sell them for more. You can always find some crap that is being sold for lot cheaper than one could get for it. I made a shitload of money doing this (around 8-900g at lvl 50 on my first ever character) just make sure the auction search is limited to rare (blue) items. However, it takes some time.
You could also pick herbalism, though usually mining pays off better. It coudl vary depending on your server which profession is more profitable.
I can't give you any real levelling tips, as I just strolled on when I played. The important thing I guess is to do a lot of quests and minimize travelling, those are the two main points. Always get to a trainer when you can learn new skills though, they increase your killing potential greatly.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
jewelcrafting works very well with mining too. even though its a little hard to level at first (even mininig is a bit harder than say herbalism) they add alot profit later on. Since its going to be the main character of yours, you could easily get some of the best designs that only drop in instances.
Quest-by-quest leveling guide: http://www.wow-pro.com/node/692
I am at 4 days played and lvl 49 on my mage alt which is pretty good considering I screw around alot in chat and what-not. XD
Leveling can take a really long time and make your nerves numb, but I have a few tips that might make it go a little faster.
Tip number one; don't waste any time. Do things as fast as you can.
Tip number two; don't waste your time helping other people.
Tip number three; don't loot unless you're doing a mission or a dungeon or a raid.
Tip number four; select mining as one of your professions, because it's by far the easiest way to make money while your questing and grinding.
Tip number five; do not make a guild, but instead join a big guild that can help you and one that you don't have to do much in like donate money and help other players.
Tip number six; DON'T DIE! If you die, you waste time.
Tip number seven; if you go out and quest, don't come back after every time you finish a mission. Go out and do as many as you can, before handing them in.
Tip number eight; don't do quest that rely on chance. Ex: mission: get 10 boar ribs and 10 condor meats.
Tip number nine; do not waste time trying to pimp out a character. There's plenty of time for that when you max out.
Tip number ten; be prepared to play a lot.
This pretty much covers it!

Level doing instances (you get optimal gear)
Your proffesions until you hit 70 should both be gathering (Skinning,Mining, Herbalism)
Try to build a list of friends to play with or the mindless grinding will drive you insane.
Join a large guild even if it doesn't provide any benefits besides having a large base of people to talk with and group with.
Quest, explorer, and quest some more. Enjoy the game and its richness. If you try to power level your first character, you will get burned out fast. You will get to 70 soon enough.
I wish I had all of my old links and guides for the fastest leveling. some of them were downright amazing for getting through the more tedious levels. you can probably google WoW (Alliance/Whored) leveling guide and find a bunch of guides.
WLK will be released soon! how long does it take from lvl 70-80 then, you guys lol
Lol now those level 70's willl know what exp is

its supposed to take for 70-80 about the same time as it did for 60-70. My guess would be that within a few days the first hardcore players will be 80, within the first week more will come.

if its harder for the nerds, it will be harder for the rest too. one way of another the hardcore players will be 80 first. And thats as it should be.

hehe, that would be a fun thing to watch
but both in Diablo and in WoW, the real game starts after you defeat the final boss (or reach the level cap).
