As a hunter, I started getting pets at level 10. My choice was an owl because it's pretty... anyway, I'm not sure I understand how they (pets) work.
The pet has this happiness measure, and so far I only saw two options: content and unhappy. And it can remain unhappy for a while and then suddenly become very unhappy and leave me. I really would want an earlier notice. So now I just feed it so that it remains content because I'm afraid it'll abandon me.
I also have trouble feeding them. Owls want meat, and I only get meat from other owls (LOL), boars at the noob start location, and harpies. I tried to find a store to buy food for my pet but all I get is spices and recipes and fish. I'm located in the Teldrassil island. What are food vendors called, anyway?
Also, are pets and rides different things? I found some place in Darnassus where they seemed to sell these big tigers and train Riding (too expensive for me, tho). So if I get a rider do I still have my pet, or they are, like, fused together?
And can I buy a hippogriff? Or are they for transport purposes only?
I'm almost sure there'd be a Meat Vendor in Teldrassil.... but! maybe not, because Stormwind doesn't have one I don't think. You know the second small village you go too? When you hit like lvl 5-7? There's most likely some there, because in Elwynn Forest (Human starting area) in the second village-like place you go to the Innkeeper has meat. So yeh, check the inkeeper in the second village place.
Sorry if you don't know what I'm saying but I can't help you any further unless I showed you in-game...
This may seem like begging but my suggest would be to ask around for free portals to Stormwind, then find your way to the lvl 5-7 town from there (Goldshire, and ask around how to get there or just follow the path out of Stormwind)

There isn't someone named "Meat Vendor" in Darnassus but I know I once had trouble finding meat in there for my pet. There is someone who sells "Tough Jerky" which is probably the best thing to feed your pet because it's extremely cheap. How long is your trial?
I think I really like it. It's kind of lazy-going, so I don't have to be paying a lot of attention to it like Diablo or an FPS. I enjoy exploring, and there is tons of land to just randomly explore, and it looks pretty good (cartoony, but still good). I like joining peoples' parties sometimes, everybody is polite (RP server), they tell me stuff, etc. I got into a few duels, won a few, lost a few.
I think if I had a job I would even buy this.
When I played Lineage II a while back it was sooooooooooooooooo boring. Sooo slow.
When I get a job like movie theater or mcdicks or kfc and jobs like those with $8 an hour, I will too get the real Warcraft server, along with my private server(s)
I know why WoW got so boring for me now... I kept re-rolling and so I never got high lvl and kept doing same areas and quests over again. Stupid me >.>
Draenei Shaman FTW!!!
Can't believe I just said what I just said...

Unfortunately, with trials you can't go past level 20, and the game doesn't get as fun until after level 20. I'm currently about to hit level 37 but I had to take a break to procrastinate my homework in some other way. Just remember, if you do end up buying the game and getting into it to start saving up as much money as soon as possible for your mount. Find a way to make money that works for you the best and just do it repeatidly.
All mining in general makes you money. But when you play on a private server like you do you can't make money as easy. Money is best made through the auction house.
Hell no. Get pwn gear then go PvP/raid! Too bad like no one plays the server but it's still fun me and my bro soloing places it is fun. Shamans kick ass...

I am guessing that the Hippogriffs you are reffering to are the ones found at a flight path. These cannot be bought, and are for transport only. You may however as a hunter eventually come across a pet similar to Hippogriffs. The ultimate mount comes at lvl70. It is capable of flying, and may resemble your beloved Hippogriff. No idea though to be honest
You can, as of the latest patch, get a hippygryph at lvl 70 if you are Exalted with the Cenarion Expedition in Outland.
I don't think you'll be seeing that in the trial though Equinox

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

I know that griffins are ridable (though my trial will probably go out by that time), but I meant hippogriphs.

RP FTW! Good choice of server there
You should buy it anyway.
