Hey what do you guys think about that Lich King expansion thing for WoW. Do you think it is a good idea with alot more fun stuff to do, or a crappy addition and starting to kind of ruin the game?
I don't know much about WoW. But I did at least feel that any content for the Lich King should actually be saved for Warcraft 4. Cause the Lich King is to Warcraft what Kerrigan is to Starcraft.
So unfortunately for Warcraft 4, if there ever is one, is that its content will now be more horribly contrived than if they just picked up right where Warcraft 3 left off with the Lich King.
But I've never been too vested in the Warcraft universe so it doesn't concern me much.
I haven't benn too big on the warcraft universe either, but now and then I wil venture off from Diablo, I just wondered because I heard from alot of forums how they think Blizzard has gone to a new low with this and I just waas curious on what ya'll thought of this.

keep in mind, that its not the same team. the group that is working on SC2 are the ones that make WC as well, at least the rts's. if anything, SC2 is what is hurting WC4 in the end.
The Warcraft universe feels to me like it's too magical. So magical I think it's going to transcend into Heaven or something. There's barely any raw material to it. I know that may not make a lot of sense, but it's just something I've always felt about Warcraft.
I get what your saying, and in a sense I started feeling that way after the release of WoW, but its something else to do when doing the same thing every night on Diablo2 starts to get old

There probably won't ever be a Warcraft 4. That'd be overkill anyway. I believe they would make a new franchise before that happened.
i think WC4 will come eventually, as soon as they finish SC2. from what i see, they are switching back and forth nowadays, so that is still a possibility.
Metzen talked about "Warcraft 4" a while ago, so i wouldnt think of it as impossible to see in the future. The Lich King and more arent as essential for the Warcraft Lore either. They didnt exist (just as Illidan, Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall etc) before Warcraft 3. What makes it so impossible to have new lore coming with Warcraft 4? (and again more major lore characters to kill in WoW 2 perhaps in distant future?).
I like what i saw with the trailer of "Wrath of the Lich King". I also like all of the ideas i read about in the FAQ and Features section of the site. Since i'm not interested in StarCraft II, at least i'll get something while waiting for Diablo 3.

Hehe, Fingolfin, I've noticed whenever the conversation is about WoW you resurface again to post on it.
I'm definitely not saying it's impossible to have new lore for Warcraft 4, I just felt that the Lich King was the perfect cliffhanger for the next sequel. But in honesty, I can also understand why WoW would focus on the Lich King because obviously if Warcraft 4 did come out, it wouldn't be for some time. And players of WoW might start asking, "Hmm, you'd think the Lich King would start stirring some shit up by now." And they'd be right. As probably one of the most powerful being in Warcraft, he indeed wouldn't be sitting on his throne waiting for Warcraft 4 to come out. Since WoW keeps having new content, that would suggest that the literal world of which Warcraft exists in is moving forth. It's pretty interesting when you think about it.
he already moved with the attack of the necropolis and the War of the Plaguelands. His strongest minion, Kel'Thuzad was defeated there. The whole thing with the Plaguelands in Azeroth talks about the moves of the Scourge, theres even Northrend on the world map right now (not clickable yet tho).
I expected to have Arthas appear soonish and as i saw the trademark "Frostmourne" licenced i knew it was about the next expansion. Theres still alot not explained about the Legion too (Kil'Jaeden, Sargeras) and about Medivh, the Dragonflights (a Black Dragonlady was talking about Deathwing being alive and plotting something) and more. Thats the main reason I (and a few millions more) am looking forward to the expansion and the next content patches. The story moves forth and the character grows with it.
PS. the timing i returned from my vacation was more of a coinsidence (i always check posts i lost, especially on Warcraft which is one of my favorite topics). Checked the posts, saw some interesting replies and I added my own!
I had sensed that by the end of Warcraft 3, Medivh had sort of forfeited his powers in some way. As if he felt it was now appropriate to step down since the Legion had been defeated and he could retire basically.
So Kel'Thuzad was defeated hmm? Does that mean he'll stay that way? Characters in Warcraft have a tendency to not stay dead.
:[ im warcraft-lore-tarded. its too.... boring =/ all those damned names that are just like "hm i gotta think of a name.. I KNOW! ILL THROW MY CAT ON THE KEYBOARD AND SEE WHAT HE NAMES THEM" *HISS!!!!* (kEl'thuzad) GOOD KITTY!!!!!! meowwww. . . .
I'm certainly not as into Warcraft's lore as I am into Starcraft or Diablo. Warcraft's is a bit too convoluted with its many races and endless factions. And too many beings in Warcraft have way too much power. It's like, you would think Archimonde is thee most powerful agent of the Legion, but no. There's that Kil'Jaden guy. And there seems to be someone even more powerful than him. I don't know...
Kil'Jaeden is more like the brains of the Legion. So far the most powerful entities i know of (one to be defeated soonish) are Sargeras (prolly distant future) the Dark Titan, then Arthas (i so want to kill this guy) and Anub'Arak (the fallen Nerubian King, former ruler of the nerubian kingdom of Ajzol-Nerub in Northrend).
And yeah, Kel'Thuzad was slain by us (players) in the Naxxramas patch so theres no more of him... Only character i want revived is Illidan Stormrage tbh.

Exacly. Thrall, Cairne, Illidan, Malfurion, Tyrande, Jaina, Sylvanas, Kel-thuzan and Arthas, they were all inrtoduced in WC3. Yet suddenly it somehow became impossible to invent new characters with the emergance of WoW?

Naxxramas is returning as a lvl 80 instance, wit hrevamped gear and difficulty. This implies, nay, certainly confirms, that Kel'thuzad will be returning also (since he is is the last boss in Naxxramas, a huge flying Necropolis).

You forgot the Old Gods. C'Thun most certainly isn't dead, though I don't think we'll see him again. Three other Old Gods are still out there, specifically one in Northrend. Since the Aqir worshipped the Old Gods before the Titans came to Azeroth, it's more than likely that if any Nerubians avoided undeath, they're serving another Old God.
Then there's still the mystery of Sargeras initial corruption. In the original lore, the Eredar and Nathrezim corrupted him. But with the new revamp, making Sargeras the corrupot of the Eradar instead, that leaves the Nathrezim as the sole agents for his fall. Either they have some pretty bad-ass leader yet to be revealed, or there has to be some other form of demon out there yet to be revealed. Or at least that's my perspective.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
theres alot to see in WoW. And they made up quite a few more lore characters. I seriously doubt that C'thun will return (just as the one in Darkshore never did after his defeat by the titans), but i'm pretty sure we'll kill the Old Gods soonish.
The Black Dragonflight is also moving and Deathwing is plotting. Lady Sinestra (Nefarians older sister) was sent to talk with the Dragonmaw Fel Orc leader about enslaving the Netherwing dragons. In any case i dont think WoW will die before at least a couple more years.

i dont think that its a bad idea to have another expansion. i think that new content is a great idea and its what keeps people playing the game, especially after the hit lvl 70

He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

Obviously there are two sides to every story. There will be people that sit on both sides of the fence with this issue. Those of us that don't want to spend all the money on new expansions plus the monthly fee and then those level 70's that want some other territory to raise havoc upon and more instances to run, more levels to gain and more armor to get. Of course there is also the problem with add-ons that are normally rendered useless by an expansion. Unfortunately we rely on others to reprogram those things, for those of us that don't know how, and sometimes it is a long time before the add-on you were familiar with is released with a compatable version of the newest expansion or patch.
All in all a new expansion is:
For Blizzard and Bored lvl 70's - Good Idea
For us broke people that like our add-on's - Bad idea

continuing the Warcraft story is fine with me, id love to know how it ends, it one of my favourite game storys, Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Legend of Zelda and Starcraft rounding out my top 5.
as for new expansions to WOW, its set up more for new expansions rather than new sequels i feel.
But as WOW seems like a money generating super power of a game, and i dont play it much, at all, new expansions (or even a sequel) doesnt concern me that much.
WOW is a fine game, but they way its designed and oriented is not quite what i prefer, I enjoy a good singleplayer RPG game with a deep intriguing story, and great chracters, both playable and non-playable, that also has multiplyer mode so i can play with friends, like Diablo if your playing for the story and quests, or Baldur's Gate.
WOW seems to be more oriented towards muliplayer which i guess is fairly characteristic of MMO, but WOW is a MMORPG, does it even have much RPG, coz it really seems like it doesnt. It seems more MMOG that MMORPG.
