Yeah. I'm about 60% done downloading on Steam. Rate has leveled out at around 200-230 KB/sec. Really glad I didn't have to wait until 6 PM my time to download as Steam originally approximated. Now I just hope it doesn't find a reason to not work...
Anyone else plan to start with a Vanquisher?
P.S. If you don't hear from me for a few hours, assume that I'm greatly enjoying the game! (And now we're at 76% download)

Is this game one of those that are going to cost more later after the MMORPG aspect is added?
They said its going to be free to play MMO... but you can purchase things to enhance gameplay. You wont be able to buy things that give you an advantage over others who dont pay though...
Pffft, i doubt its more fun than borderlands haha. I haven't played it yet, I'm DLing the demo so i guess ill get to see. To me it's the lack of multiplayer right now that kills torchlight.
Are there any ways yet to buy and download it without having to install Steam?
The current state of http://www.torchlightgame.com/ is confusing me, since the news box says the game isn't up yet "on our site", but there are "buy now" links at the top of the page.
And "it's not up on our site" implies that it may be up on other sites, which would mean that the file itself is ready, which would then mean there's no reason they can't post it on their site.
D2D for example says Torchlight is available, but I'm hesitant to enter my credit card info out of a fear that after I pay, I'll get a message saying "oh wait, it's actually not ready yet."
The "the demo isn't ready yet but while waiting you can demo the game at our partner sites" thing also doesn't make sense for the same reason. Has anyone found a place to download the demo (without Steam)?
Of course, I could just wait a day or even a couple hours and this will likely all get sorted out, but it's fun to be part of the action as it's happening
When someone starts playing and takes a break please tell me how you like it.
its story is similar to diablo 1 (1 town, huge dungeon) but it also has some side quests to places where you cannot tp out of...
playing an alchemist, very fun and simple game play but one draw back is my minion's health isn't displayed so i constantly have to check on its health, interesting twist of plot yet sort of obvious, no background lore so story isnt quite clear gameplay wise 8/10

I started a Vanquisher on Very Hard and have died once because I encountered a new enemy and didn't realize how devastating it could be if I got too close (which I did and quickly learned not to do). This is my first break and isn't by my own choosing which should tell you something about how enjoyable the game has been--I had to stop playing because I got hit with Unshakable Waggro. I would quickly add that 2-2.5 hrs of a game isn't nearly enough time to formulate a complete opinion, but it has been a pretty damn enjoyable few hours.
I haven't quite figured out what is the best way to use or set up my skills which has probably made some things/fights harder than they needed to be. Oh well, I have noticed other things which I have significantly improved upon since starting.
Some people may complain about the art style and the similarity in gameplay to Diablo. The game is a lot like Diablo, which is great because it's been some time since a game that is like Diablo has come along and actually been fun. Though the art and graphics style may look cartoony, on closer inspection and while playing, the game is actually very dark and mature. I don't know how to describe it other than by saying that it just works and no matter how cute an enemy might look, after playing for a while, one has no hesitation destroying it as quickly as possible.
I have been quite enjoying Torchlight and plan to continue doing so as soon as I can. I'm sure that there's a lot more to be said about this game, but I'll just finish by saying that this game feels a lot like an updated Diablo and from what I've seen, it has been executed very well. If you think you might like it, stop wasting time and buy it--if you are on the fence, you should probably just buy it anyway because it's very likely that you will enjoy Torchlight if you are a fan of Diablo (what some may call a "diablofan").
Oh and I haven't enjoyed the musical score of a game this much in years

600kbps on the demo. And 81%
Thinking of making a vanquisher first, its so hard not to start as a melee meat shield class though.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
the gameplay is diablo, and the action bars are a mixture of both diablo and wow
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.

I heard someone said it's Open-Source, is that true?
