It would be stupid that ships had drops. Like: ''I destroyed a ship! He dropped his cannon and I caught it!''
So I guess this idea would just as reasonable "Hey I just killed a quil rat and he dropped a sword!" Or "Hey I just killed a thing that looked like some kind of fungus in the flayer jungle and it dropped gold!"
Yes. Take the game escape velocity for example. Each ship has 100% hit points. Between the complete destruction of the ship (in which is blows up into pices) and 1% of the hit points left. The ship is disabled (This is somewhat hard to get to because it takes some tideous percision). Once the ship is disabled you can board it (but ONLY when its disabled) Then you have a choice of chosing what you want, fuel, ammo, or you can capture the ship and tell it to join your militia (there is a % to capture ship, it doesnt happen automatically, some of the better ships have 1-5% to capture ship). However, the ship has security trip wire that may be activated once you select to take ammo, fuel, ect, and the ship will blow up.
This idea would be awesome if it was implemented into a Starcraft MMO.
In Privateer if you attacked a cargo ship, you could salvage its cargo with a tractor beam. Best part was if a pilot ejected. You could literally salvage the pilot into your cargo hold, land on a pirate base, and sell the ejected pilot as a slave. Marvelous.

I would also recommend downloading the original escape velocity and not escape velocity nova.
Most importantly, I think an SC MMORPG would just be in a bad setting. Marines are generally speaking fixed units... like in appearance and general equipment, and there's only a limited number of other potential infantry units, which will have that same limitation.
how can u say that Marines are fixed... maybe in the RTS but if u watch some of the different videos during the game the marines aren't in one general type of armor every one of them has different colors, different people in them, etc.
but i do think that it would be hard to get the toss and zerg into playable chars because of there general model and there weapon preference ie. zergs just use there claws and spit but the toss use energy daggers/energy swords

Hmm. i don't think a MMO of Starcraft would be viable, i mean, how can you gear your zerg? maybe with protoss and terran, but the differences between the races are so huge that only the itemization issues would be enormous, for example: if you remove a terran's gear in the middle of Char he would die? what kind of weapon upgrades can a Zerg have? or if the zerg would be a playable class, what type of zerg can you be? finally, the races are so different from each other that interaction between them would be really complicated IMO... if Blizz can make this work would be something worthy to look at...
