I was just curious what everyone else is playing to take the edge off the wait for Diablo 3. Maybe it will help others find good games to keep them occupied during the seemingly endless wait for D3.
Here's what i'm currently playing:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fallout 3 (29.99 on steam with all DLC included)
- Some friends recommended i pick this up. I had it on Xbox360, but re-bought it on PC because apparently the mods really add some re playability to it. I've been playing the hell out of it. It's totally my pre-D3 "faq-buddy".
Little did i know when i played Fallout 3 on Xbox, that there's a lot more to do than just follow the main quests. I already played it and beat it, but am discovering all kinds of new stuff cause i'm just wandering around, finding random places and clearing them out and exploring them. It seems like by just following the main quest on xbox, i missed out on 90% of the game, which is exploration (and now mods.)
Anyway, i highly recommend picking up FO3. New Vegas is okay... but the amount of content included in the Fallout 3 game of the year edition, along with the addons and mods are staggering.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team Fortress 2 (FREE)
- Probably my favorite game next to Diablo 1 & 2. Easy to learn, hard to master. I've been playing since beta and still look forward to playing almost every night. Just download steam and install to play. It's free, and beyond awesome!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Borderlands (29.99?)
Even Jay Wilson in one of his last interviews said he was playing and was inspired a bit by borderlands during D3 development. It's an FPS with a diablo-esque item system and skill trees, but it's a shooter.
This was another one recommended by my friends, that i'd played previously for a half an hour and never picked back up, but i forced myself to get into it and give it an honest chance again and was amazed how awesome it is. All the things like "item runs" apply in borderlands.
You arent restricted to items based on classes in borderlands, but can use whatever u want. Guns scale in damage depending on how lucky you are drop wise. So at level 3 the first gun i got was an acid bullet sniper rifle that explodes in acid and melts the skin off of enemies when it critical kills, and now i think i'm using a lightning/fire SMG that stuns and ignites enemies when i shoot them (i have a bonus to "elemental effects" cause i'm playing as the siren class, so the special elemental gun attributes which are normally random are almost always going off)
But yeah, if you like shooters, and think u might get into an rpg-esque shooter with Diablo-esque item drops get Borderlands, it's on the cheap and is an awesome game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But yeah, that's what i've been playing lately, anyone else been playing anything good aside from the standard Blizzard faire?
GuildWars (particularly Nightfall) and CounterStrike: Source. GW takes care of the ARPG craving and CSS Deathmatch servers take care of the FPS-must-kill craving.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The final test of the Serpent's Form takes place in "The Pit of 12 Vipers." The initiates are not told about the 13th.
Was playing Heros Might n Magic 6 beta before they shut it =[ hopefully it will be released before diablo 3 but its cutting it close. 13th of October, the day before my bday!
Also been playing NWN2 on the net like a good lil nerd
I WAS playing 3v3's in SC2, but since the press event and beta hype, I've played very little of anything, other than a couple hours of D2 to sort of soothe my craving - which is doing a very poor job I might add.
Been playing Dragon Nest for a few days. It's a free to play action-RPG dungeon crawler (it's advertised as an MMO, but the only massive multiplayer portion is in town). It's pretty fun if you can look past the fact that it's a bunch of little anime cartoon children.
Other than that just some single player RPGs like Assassins Creed 2, Fable 3, Risen, Gothic 4, Dungeon siege 2 and 3, Dragon Age 2, Divinity 2.
You basicly read all day just to find one tiny bit of new informations, it rarly happens but meh its all i got
Im sure id be around max level by now, but its hard to tell, the games always changing, most of the time your eyes hurt and your head is so full of usless informations you can barly take in the good stuff.
Just SC2 Mostly custom games though. I have other games like AC Brotherhood and Dead Space 2 but I lost interest in them. I also never got interested enough in Crysis 2 to try it out hehe.
I guess I should use my free 7 day WoW game time. I quit after WOTLK but I'll probably start on a new server and just tinker around with the new race. Should keep me occupied for a week and I'd be lucky if the beta started after my 7 days are up hehe.
