Of all the projects using Minecraft as a medium, MCME is quite possibly the most detailed and incredibly large undertaking ever. We are working to create what may become the first and possibly only seamless recreation of Middle-Earth that is 100% detailed and complete, allowing players to walk uninterrupted by loading screens from one edge of the map to the other. As if that weren’t enough, when the project is complete, a role-playing element is in the works along with npc’s and an actual storyline.
I've recently become a member of this online group working towards making Middle Earth (the land of the Lord of the Rings) a reality through a Minecraft server. It's pretty awesome - both the scale of the project on which we are working AND the people with whom you get to work. It's free to join, there's room for advancement among the ranks, and - best of all - you are even allowed to submit your own designs and build your own houses.
I urge anyone here interested in LOTR, Tolkien, and/or Minecraft to check out this website now: Minecraft Middle Earth!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I'm relatively new to the community still, but I've already learned tons. My Minecraft In-Game Name (IGN) is keeganwh. =)
Is that in classic, classic beta, or current beta? I can see the water flowing, but it's a different color than I'm used to. Either that or it's modded.
Will they include goblins, orcs and Uruk-hai? and how complete is Helm's deep?

Current beta. It is an ongoing modern server. The images were taken using a couple different texture packs. MCME has it's own texture pack as well.

We're looking at possibly making skeletons/zombies orcs and such, yes.
and how complete is Helm's deep?
I'm actually leading the design/build team for Helm's Deep. We're at about 15% right now I'd say (until total completion, including detailed housing/barracks/etc). I can show you some pictures from the construction job if you'd like.

It's probably modded.
