They say it's going to be "polished" by it's release in March and won't be another one of those bug-filled MMOs that come out. We'll see... maybe WoW has met it's maker?
TBH, I would prefer the graphics of wow. Yes these graphics are far more rendered in detail than wow but, who cares? I believe that style accounts for more than the actual rendering and high definition. and I prefer the style of wow.

Okay, idiocy aside, no I don't believe it will. Sure it has good graphics, but so does Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Aion, and other MMO's that other people predicted would be the downfall of WoW, this one will be no different, why?
I think it's too early to judge but I predict the gameplay will be closely similar to your standard MMO based on a fantasy setting, as again done with many previous failed MMOS (failed in the terms that they didn't dethrone WoW).
And besides the only way WoW will truly die off is two options:
A ) New Blizzard MMO comes out
B )Fanbase leaves
I'll quote a guy that has one of the most popular shows about WoW:
It's not like there aren't games that beat WoW at certain things. DC Universe beats it in combat system, Age of Conan in graphics, Warhammer Online in PvP, D&D Online in dungeon design etc etc. But there's no game right now that beats it in everything and that's why it's still number one. Even with all those free to play MMOs (LOTRO, Everquest 2) it still doesn't lose subscribers.
That should be more or less why things are as they are.
But on another note, what every1 else has said is pretty correct. i played wow till late WOTLK. I quit a few times and one time was when a few of my mates quit(cause blizz took their sweet ass time fixing shit) and I looked for other games. I picked up conan. It was funny because after lvl 20 it was the same game as wow just worse with a stupid combat system. I then came to realise that they may not have the best of everything but everything they have is solid.
The irony of it is that every1 in general chat on conan was talking about wow. I threw in the towel on MMO's for a bit then went back 2 wow for arena :).
Ill regiseter for beta on this Rift game, but i really dont have high hopes for it.
Upgrading an engine might break compatibility with other parts of an engine, forcing them to update them too, etc. I have never seen a game switch engine, only add things to it.
Didn't Dark Ages of Camelot change engine? Not 100% sure but i think it did. About WoW you're right about the changes so far, though. It's mainly additions to the engine, not changes to the core.
WoW is not going to survive for much longer, that's for sure. Not because of other MMO's, but because it is imploding on itself, and Blizzard doesn't seem to care. Titan will most likely replace WoW despite what people think.

E.g., because the other MMO's on the market are either lousy (AoC) or niche (EVE).
When they run out of content to add, it's going to die, not argueing there.
But there's still lots of things left to uncover. The Legion is still on the way. Metzen himself mentioned he's a sucker for a good redemption story when he was asked about Illidan reappearing (yay) and we still have no clue where Sargeras is (he will probably be the last one out). There's some issues with Nozdormu (the Aspect of Time) that indicate he may be corrupted and that he is infact behind the Infinite Dragonflight.
The list could go on forever and honestly, many of the things we got this expansion, we didn't really expect. I mean alright, we knew there was something going on with the Elemental Plane, we knew about Deathwing and we did expect an Old God but that's about it.
I'm pretty sure WoW will live for quite some time and it will even co-exist with Titan, since it's supposed to be a MMO-fps and i'm not sure if the WoW fanbase will end up liking it.
Lord of the Rings Online and Everquest 2 are F2P too, as of the last few months. Micro-transactions and several upgrades can be purchased through money. Not worth it to play the butchered version imo, just pay the subscription if you want a good MMO. Course it means you'll most likely be able to keep only one active.
My point is that AoS was not a game in itself, it was a mod in a game. And LoL is entirely based on that mod, the entire gameplay aspect, the heroes, roles etc.
Also, one big reason there are a lot of F2P is because it's a very easy way to make money, they are almost always profitable even if they only last for a month.
AoS and DotA birthed a whole new genre of game which is called MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, look it up). LoL's gameplay aspect is not DotA's, they share the core game aspects (choose heros, minion waves, leveling up, etc) but going further than that they are vastly different (denying/no denying, focus on creep/focus on hero killing, shrub/no shrub, buff reward/money reward, etc.) So no, LoL might have derived from DotA/AoS but it evolved into its own game entirely.
I'm sure DnD Online is still going past a month, LotR Online is still going past a month, LoL is still going past a month, Maplestory is still going past a month, hell even RuneScape is still going past a month.
BTW, can anyone explain to my why most MMO's (certainly most MMORPG's) use a cooldown-based combat system? IT'S JUST SO BORING! "hmm, I'll press 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, and now 1 is ready to use again" and so on, and so on...
Because that's how EQ did it and WoW copied EQ and since WoW is so popular the known MMO's are all copying WoW.
EVE/Perpetuum systems are a bit different (energy and position/state management), and Darkfall is simply a MMOFPS.
Cooldowns are an easy way to allow for more powerful skills. Without a cooldown, they could be spammed constantly. From that on it becomes simple heuristics to find the routine that brings the most damage.
Back in the day, when I played, there were many games with no cooldowns whatsoever, and I didn't spam anything. There were a few games with cooldowns (i.e., Nox), but there was never a priority skill.
Spell spamming came from games like Diablo because of primitive game mechanics. And, tbh, Diablo is built around spamming and it works fine there because it's very twitch oriented built around the idea of avoiding damage, so I won't go there.
When it comes to games like MMO's, though, one of the key issues is a very rigid trinity system. By rigid, I mean that max tanking is always best, max DPS is always best, max heal is always best (although that has been modified a bit lately), and their low/mid forms have no uses. I think we can all agree that roles get a bit more interesting when tanks need to do damage, DPS to CC, and healers at least somewhat worry about mana. I also believe the threat system also oversimplifies the encounters. Movement, positioning, range, speed, etc., are not prominent enough in MMO's, which should have more outdoor large-area encounters where such can be utilized. Then there's the issue of very non-intelligent AI which both leads to highly scripted encounters and oversimplifies the tasks.

I never truly judge a game until I've played it, though, So we'll see.

I don't understand why the failure of other MMO's is somehow assigned as WoW's success, rather than just being the failure of those other MMO's.

 League of Legends?

Farmville has maaaany players, though, keep in mind.
But in the end, it's either SW:TOR or Perpetuum for me right now.

When I first saw the cinematics, my face was blown off and I wanted the game.
Buuuuut, then I saw the gameplay.....
Somebody has never played EVE.
