Ok. So I'm at tech school, and my dorm sucks. I don't have a real desk, so I cannot get a PC as I originally planned. I still need entertainment however, and I need to decide on what option will maximize my fun levels. So, I'd like users of either the PSP or the DS to sell me on which one is the shit.
Also, what are the 'must have' games for each? What games are there to look out for?
Help me out here people.

laptop maybe? lol......get a psp tho thats my suggestion since it can play tons of movies and you can mod it to play stuff you rip from dvds and emulators.
Go with a DS, you will have a loss in graphics but a plus in game selection. The good titles for the DS are endless, quality stuff. The PSP just doesn't have that fun of games, not a great selection.

Psp so many games, and if your smart you can hack it...and get all the games for free. and tons of movies. oh and music and pictures, and wifi, and great looking. yeah go psp!
PSP, you can do soo many things with it, movies, games, music, surf internet. The screen is bigger and I feel like the controls respond better. You'll have more and more good games with time compared to the DS where only the crappy games are gonna come out from now on
I think it depends on what you like. Both PSP and DS are highly mod-able.
Personally I own a PSP, you can mod it to play SNES GBA N64 PS1 Genesis

i say psp. the ds is like what valtonis said, for kids. almost all there top games are games kids play and not many teen or mature games are made for the ds. the psp has better graphics, and a bigger screen. the ds has the touch screen but to me it slow down game play with games that you have to us the touchscreen and the a,b,x,y buttons and d-pad.

I have no idea how they stand up to each other, but... go with a DS. Golden Sun 3 is going to come out next year probably, and that alone makes the DS worth it
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Depends on what u like most. true psp can play games movies and go on the internet out of the box but DS really has more fun games to play and trust me the mini games on mario 64 and super mario bros are addicting. If u really want to u can mod your ds a lot to go on the internet play movies and download games that arent even out yet. I had a friend at school who got GTA 2 days before it came out in stores. I think he payed 50$ for this special card which u can put stuff on it. And i think it had like 600mg of room or something. Also if u like oversea games but cant get them in the US u can download those also.
I have both. I originally bought a DS because the PSP cost to much... but than i realized that the DS sucks. The graphics ALWAYS feel like something is missing. (just like the Wii)
I bought my PSP, and i love it. However, if you buy the PSP just wait about a month more, and PSP-Go is coming out. This one comes with a sliding screen... and a built in 16GB HDD. However, all the media is now going to be download only. So you better have a wireless hub nearby.

Oh man...the Golden Sun games were some of my favorite rpgs ever....but I was just starting to lean towards the PSP. This is gonna be a tough choice. Get....both? Ugh. My poor bank account.

Well if you need both, probably get a PSP now. Golden Sun is far off, and by the time it gets out you can get some old models of the DS for some pretty decent prices I'd wager.

I currently own both and got both when they each come out. So having owned both, I can easily say of the two the DS is far more fun and offers alot more titles with substance than the PSP by leaps and bounds. People say the DS is for kids and pansys, but GTA: China Town Wars would disagree. That's an arguement against the DS that's older than the DS itself and is pretty much irrelevant.
However, in your situation needing a computer substitution, I'd go with the PSP. It's got a web browser, Skype, internet radio streaming, MP3 and videos, along with some other applications that could be useful to you. Just bank on having to buy a pretty nice sized memory stick for it all.
But with all things aside and if you're looking at the DS and PSP side by side, my personal choice is the DS. Just because of all the games it has to offer and the different ways to play them. Sure, all the PSP fancys are nice, but who really needs them? The MP3 player itself on it isn't all that easy to use and you don't get a whole lot out of it. The max volume isn't all that loud, and it doesn't offer any kind of library options such as playlists or categorizing. It's very picky about video formats, and the internet radio streaming doesn't offer a whole lot of variety. The web browser is not much more than that; not very fast but it does have history, bookmarks and all else you'd find on a browser. The wifi and wireless internet is nice, but connection signals don't always stay too stable. The game graphics are good and looks nice, but controls sometimes are jerky and not very.... well, controllive (I just made that a word). The PSP is more complete if you're talking in the sense of features, but there's not much bite to them and almost come across as filler.
