Here is a link to the MMO of Star Trek that's currently in production. I've never subscribed to an MMO before, but I know I won't be able to resist as soon as this comes out. I just wish I could get more information on it. But I think they're still in the earlier stages of development, so, you know. http://www.startrekonline.com/

Lol a pokemon MMO...wow that's is actually an okay idea. Except how would you fit in equipment? and balancing what is it like 300 classes/races/whatever would be kind of hard...
Besides that the idea is pretty cool.
EASY!
Classes: stuff like religions, or groups that you follow, like Team Rocket or whatever.
Does anyone remember Uru? It's online feature totally bombed (understandably), but it was an interesting experiment in online gaming. You can actually play Uru Live on Gametap as of now, but I personally with there were more MMO's that didn't involve fighting and killing. And not an MMO like The Sims either (I think you can call The Sims an MMO, but I am probably wrong), but a more puzzle oriented solving game where you can control different realms based on your understanding of them.
yea i dont think MMO when i think of the Sims either. well if not fighting and killing and stuff like that and not something like the Sims cuz the Sims is dumb, what would you have in mind? cuz that is a good point and im always up for trying new things.

It's hard for me to conceptualize, really. And it's easier to explain if you've played Myst, Riven, etc.
But I picture kind of having these different Ages that you can acquire the rights to by having an intimate understand of those ages. And to have an understanding of them, you need to be able to solve many of its puzzles. However, this was the problem with Uru initially. Cause there are only so many Ages they can produce with limited puzzles for each Age. And because of that, a person could go in that Age posing as someone who had never worked on those puzzles and just start solving them before anyone else can have a chance too.
So I'm not sure how it would all work. There would defiinitely be a bartering system of some kind. I've just noticed how there are things like Gaia where it's kind of like a social networking site/MMO. But since it's all on a website, there aren't really any nice graphics or seriousness to it. I almost think it would be cool just to have an MMO where you kind of have to live a life of trade and mapping/exploring, and you can kill people, but you have a serious chance of getting caught and thrown in jail if you're not careful. And you can spend the resources you get on creating borders of your found territory and basically creating cities for other members to live in.
But obviously when I talk about all that stuff, one would wonder why you couldn't just go in with an army or something and take over that city. So maybe games without fighting have no real place in the MMO genre. I don't know.
yea i dont think any game developer would dare make an MMO with out fight, killing, violence, etc. because while its new, inovative and unique... which is enough to interest many people and at least get them to try it, its just too much of a risk. its not safe like guns and explosions are. developers dont take risks when it comes to MMOs, which i guess is understandable to some extent, but its why we dont really see anything else in that genre for the most part

Sims MMO? isnt the sims that game where you make houses and junk?
MMO(RPG) to me is much like its name suggests, Massive multiplayer online, so games like Ever Quest, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft come to mind.
personally im more into an RPG that happens to have online play, Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale. Im not always able to play online, and im fairly sure im not alone in that, so its nice when you can still enjoy the game offline.
but i seem to be degressing, so like i said earlier, things id like to see as a MMO hopefully a free one or possibly one that somehow despite the fact its a MMO has an offline mode are;
Winston and I were thinking of a Zelda MMO a while back, we thought it could be pretty good,
-Legend of Zelda
-Baldur's Gate
-Icewind Dale
-Diablo (but it wont be Diablo 3, just a MMO set in the diablo universe)
-Starcraft
-Basilisk
uh...
-Willow (or at least one set in that universe)
kinda spammish i know, but id like to see an MMO in those series/universes.
well Diablo, Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate already have good RPGs with online content, but those games are still awesome on Single Player, and id like them to remain that way, while still retaining the essence of MMO

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
hmm might have to look into that rumor a little further.
but i never really played those games much.

The thing is this, there's already that Star Wars Galaxies MMO. At first it was cool, then they released a patch that made it waaaay too easy to become a Jedi (which previously was very difficult). This made tons of people angry and now no one really plays that game anymore.
This would be set in the Old Republic, differing from the current MMO that's set in the Empire's era. My beef with them makeing KoTOR an MMO is that it would undoubtedly suck story wise, and that's the whole reason I love the other two in the series.

yeh your probably right, but arent the majority of MMOs like that though? they concerntrate on graphics and PvP, while story and character/s take a back seat. kinda sad. I love the story, yeh im a Role Playing, DND addicted kinda guy, i need my epic tales of intrigue, betrayal, romance, murder, treasure hording dragons, brave heroes, noble paladins, sneaky backstabbing theives, wise wizards, booze addled psychopaths, hardcore bitches, egotistical arrgoant mages.
you can get quote a bit of content out of that and still be MMO, but then again im just a fan, i dont mkae the games so i dont really know.

I've always wondered how they deal with content in WoW. It seems like it would interrupt the continuiity of the Warcraft story in some way. For instance, while I know it's for gameplay purposes, why would you only be able to join either the Alliance or the Horde? Warcraft is about multiple factions of varying degrees of power.
And by the end of Warcraft 3, didn't the Humans and Orcs manage to secure a somewhat precarious peace or ceasefire?

im sure they just made it Horde vs. Alliance with no regards to story just to get some PvP content. and some of the races on either side dont care about fighting all that much or fight anyone who pisses them off.
And by the end of Warcraft 3, didn't the Humans and Orcs manage to secure a somewhat precarious peace or ceasefire?
yeh but not all Humans and Orcs agreed to the terms of the ceasefire.
Jaina's father, Lord Admiral Daelin Proudmoore attacks you in the Orc campaign in WCIII: TFT, i think you kill him.
also you have the whole Alliance vs. Horde thing in WOW, sure its only what 4 years after WCIII: TFT, but it seems like things have pretty much gone back to pre WCIII days.

just because you can play on both sides.... i dont really see how that can possibly mess up the continuity of the story

Races: Uhh...African American, Caucasion, Asian, ect...
Design how your character looks(somewhat based on class too, like if you choose "Goth" for example lot's of chains and black clothes)
And also, it coulb be based on your characters endurance of how far he/she can run/walk before needing rest, or chasing a pokemon to catch, lol.
