Path Of Exile - First Impressions

I am intrigued with the Final Fantasy-esque systems this game has.

PoE could have been an excellent game. It have some very good ideas. (skill tree, diversity, currency). But when the combat is absolutely horrible it sinks all the plusses the game may have had. The game is meh. Just meh.

On a sidenote. I do not get, why the make such a dull, meh combat system in a game, thats suppose to nail Diablo 3. The crappy slow, MEH combat system stops PoE for being awesome.

Did i mention how crappy the combat is? And really the game is all about fighting and killing stuff. And when the combat is absolute horrid, the game can vanish for all i care.

Because the Combat in D3 the first 30 Levels is super awsome... i get it ?

My Witch is currently level 23 (yes i am slow), and its starting to get really amazing.

Maybe you should try playing past the first Town xD

I get what he means, but in PoE defense, it's a small company and making engines i assume is serious business and it's an indie game investment wise, they do not have the money blizzard has for a slik fucking ass engine with amazing combat..

But from my experience in PoE the combat is kinda meh, but i am still enjoying the game for now, the crafting system is amazing and i wish D3 would look at PoE for a good example on what 2 do

I was playing PoE from start of May and while combat has improved a bit its still not even close to the one in D3. Even at level 60+ its just not fluent and feels slow.

To me, this is one of the main reasons I can't play it for more than an hour.

I'll play a bit over the weekend to see if Act3 changes things a bit.

Maybe you should stop guessing. Ive played since first beta and ive experienced the combat at high level. And there the combat is slow and dull aswell. Its far from what it needs to be in order for the game to be fun.

A3 in PoE is a masterpiece. You know that feel when you first time entered the Diablo 1 church dungeons and the butcher room? Yup i felt the same yesterday when we played A3.

Don't want to give spoilers here but turn your music volume up in solaris and lunars temple and feel that dark fantasy flavour ;) Amazing.

    I respectfully disagree^^
Check the Kripparian Clip i've postet on page one... forward to 5:00...slow you say? =)

Attack speed and movement speed isnt really everything. Its a matter of how combat flows. How it feels when going from one action to another.

That said, the Kripps video does look llike chaotic fun.

If somebody would give me D3 and PoE with all names and videos censored and ask "which game is D3?" - I wouldn't hesistate to choose PoE. "Man, it's obvious, isn't it? This is D2 with new graphics, economy and cool skill system! And the other game is obiously one of the many hack'n'slash clones you can find"

None of the great RPGs had magnificently fluid combat systems, and I've never played an RPG solely for its combat system.
Funny, this topic shows a clear separation between those who are action fans and those who are RPG fans.

Then this game might just be a little too complex for the likes of you. I've had a really nice mara on closed beta, with bm, forked lightning and super high attack speed. I would simply spam leap + lightning strike and shit on everything. The game is indeed slow in the beginning. I'm hoping they're gonna change that. But it looks me to me that you're talking through your asshole, since you can easily overcome the slow feeling the game gives you, once you get some gear.

I've never been a huge fan of cheating in ARPGs. Funny how this topic shows a clear seperation between those that liked D2 for the botting/duping and D3 for the GAH (so they didn't have to play the game) and those who are ARPG fans.

The guy who posted the above post has said exactly what i wanted to say.

Well, the kripparian video is awesome and when the video started i was like "Durance of Hate?"Awesome d2 feeling and awesome POE combat right there. But the fact that you HAVE to choose attack speed to enjoy doesnt sound too good.

And all those dumb guys making posts about Rmah,if you never use Rmah then explain how it affects gameplay???
Grinding Gear Games (Company that produced POE): "These are great Ideas, we will use them for sure as they are clearly what the player base is looking for."

Blizzard: "While we agree that this game needs re-working and that these ideas could help the future of this game, we have no plans to listen to our fan-base at this time."

I don't think people are arguing anyone would play an A-RPG solely for the combat.
But they want a game with both good combat and good mechanics.

    You cant really separate them.
What good is interesting mechanics for tweaking your skills for example, if the combat wont let you use your skills effectively (not directed at PoE, just an example)?

The point was, when I'm confronted with two games, #1 with great mechanics/systems and sub-par combat, and #2 is the other way around, I'll always go for #1, no doubt about it.

Your an idiot to listen to.
Unless you get close 50%+ increased attack speed via talents, the game is MEH. Its a simple fact, that alot of people agree with. Combat in PoE is dreadfull, only way to make it slightly fun, is to invest tons of your skill points into attack speed. Without doing the combat will continue to be absolutely horrible. So much for diversity in a gigantic skill tree, when your forced to go the ias way, unless your fine with a horrid combat system.

^^It's not 'horrid', it's just not to your liking.
Stop presenting opinions as facts, please.

Guys, guys. Please. Let's keep it like "this is my opinion" and not "this is my opinion but it should also be yours".

Also less "your an idiot" and less "too complex for you". They're both offensive. Imagine that you're in a park and talking while eating ice cream. That's it. Now carry on.

I have to agree btw that there is indeed a difference between game pace and "fluidity", with Blizzard winning in the later with pretty much all their releases. It's not a game-selling feature, but some of us are just used to having it from playing their games all these years.

With that said: Moar opinions! \o/
