Hey guys, I realize that there's a sticky for these types of threads, but the last guy that posted on it didn't get a reply so I thought I'd break out a new thread. My question is pretty simple:
Is it worth it to wait until the end of October to buy a new computer or would buying one now be about as good?
Now for the details. I want to build a new computer from the ground up. I don't have an infinite budget on this project. I probably want to stay between $1000-$1500. I would like to implement an SSD Drive (This is one of the main reasons I want to wait. Seeing as SSD drives are very expensive right now and have small amounts of memory.)
I have a pretty good idea of what parts I would like to purchase, so I don't really want a list of parts to build the computer. I'm just wondering whether it's worth it to wait 3 and a half months or not.

My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here. Why do I always realize it When I've already lost it.
I already ordered my hybrid ssd/hdd because I can't wait to get a faster yet affordable hard drive. But when I do get an ssd it will work side by side with my hybrid so I think it's a good enough investment.
That's the problem. I really would like to wait in order to have the best rig for Skyrim/Diablo 3. But Deus Ex also comes out at the end of August and my current rig is really outdated.

I already have a 1TB drive, I just would like to have a little more than 64 gigs on my main drive.

well i would wait if your computer's doing fine and satisfying your needs. the main reason is that rumor has it that the amd are aiming a late Q3 release of their next gen videocards, nvidia... not so sure, their 28nm kepler just taped out recently, a couple months behind amd. but thats all rumors and to be honest both companies would like to hit the holiday season but that may not come to be the reality. More information will sure be coming out soon, i believe there's these hardware conferences in the summer and nvidia and amd are likely to release more info on them.
waiting wont do much for your ssd choices and prices. since there's just been a set of new ssds released from intel and ocz. and it seems ssd prices moves very slowly, until a new release. so i dont think we'll hit marketwide $1.5/gb this christmas.
for cpu there might be something for you to choose from when bulldozer hits. amd's has always focused on budget lines and they might have something good. for the time being, sandybridge are great value chips.
btw does your budget range include a monitor? if it does then getting a 120gb ssd and a $250 videocard might send you over your limit.
The rule is always if you wait longer, you will get more bang for your buck. My question to people is always "Why wait?". If you have the money and want a new computer, then just get one. If your budget is $1,500 then you will easily be able to build something that runs just about any game at max or near max settings now and in the near future.
Not sure if you need a monitor or not, but I just went to Cyberpower and specced this out:
X-Dreamer 3 Case
i5-2500
Intel Fan
MSI-P67A-GD55
8GB DDR/1600MHz
GeForce 570 1.2GB
750W Corsair PSU
120GB Intel SSD
1TB HD
DVD
Windows Home

After Instant Rebate your at $1,434.50. You have about $90 in mail-in rebate coupons and around $100.00 for shipping depending on where you live.
I would say that rig would be awesome for quite some time... And it's still able to be upgraded in the future with a new GPU, the MB being able to handle 16GB RAM (possibly more) and the possibility of going up to an i7.
If you built it yourself, it would be even cheaper.
Ah. I forgot to mention that I already have a nice monitor and I don't plan on buying a new keyboard/mouse/headphones/speakers.

If it's going to take this long for SSD drives to drop in price then I might as well start buying soon. Thanks for all of the replies they were very insightful.

SSD's only boot game loading times aswell as OS loading times because the SSD goes through data alot quicker than a HDD.
With a SSD when you click on a program, it pops it up literally a second or less after clicking it.
The only benefit to gaming is loading times for example going to a new zone in WoW or getting inside and out of doors in New Vegas, they load alot faster compared to a HDD.

Got all this for about 800-900$ shipped including taxes.
I gotta say, I love my new PC. Runs smooth, runs every game in an appreciable way and didnt cost me 1500$.
IMO, SSD can be a great add on, but count 250$ for a good one (Crucial C300 and C400 are rocking right now and 128G can go out for 250$)
#1 rule on buying a put-together computer: wait until there's a deal.
This and also wait until the reason you want to use your new rig for comes out, so hopefully by the time that does you'll have great deals and the newer stuff comes out to buy during that time period.
Look into computer hardware, you got a while til' Diablo 3.
IF youd live close to me i could turn that 1.5k in the dream pc of anny gamer, just dont spend time ''sugesting'' cuz i know i cant work on it:P Please understand me on that.
well said. i agree to this 100%
