I know I'm very late on this train, so my apologies if this has already been linked or discussed.
Tom's Hardware is arguably the best site around to surf through if you're looking to build a PC. Each month they list the "Best *Insert PC part here* for your money" ranging from entry level price, to the most expensive. They'll be what I use to choice parts when I drop 3k-4k on my PC this winter.
As for this topic, they released a June version of, System Builder Marathon, June 2011: $1000. They also have a $500, and $2000 article detailing the best PC you can build for the price, and the exact parts they choice by hand.
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” - Albert Einstein
I got my computer 2 days ago and I finally have it set up (whoever said installing all the pieces yourself is easy, I hate you), I had to bring it to some guy that could build it for a price, he said I could have easily burned a part when I tried to turn it on but luckily, nothing wrong happened.
Thing is running great so far, except videos/movies are a bit blurry which is quite weird.
Well, also, Window 7 -sucks-, big time, but with some heavy customization its a lot easier to the eye and to handle.
Otherwise, handles everything I can throw at it so far perfectly. Very happy about that Thanks to everybody that helped.
