Not so recent... but Ironlore the company that develops Titan quest is closed. If buyers continue to buy the game after it closed, the profits goes to who?
... Huh, thats actually a really good question, I'm not too sure either :/.
I'm assuming any profits go to the creator of the company, maybe even to the bank who seized their assets.

As far as I remember from a business class I took last year, all of the games are sold two or three times. The production company sells the games to a retail or distributor company, which then sells to the public (or smaller private companies which then sell to the public). The faster the game sells, the more the retail companies must buy from the production company.
Which means that if a production company goes out of business, there are no more games coming from them, but the copies you see in the retail store were bought a while ago and belong to the retail store.
I hope that clears it up.

And when the copies the retail store has are sold out, the game is not produced anymore and the only way to get it is from somebody who has the game and can sell it to you? am I right?
If not could you explain please?

publisher. they get al the money. They have a dev copy of the game, and can keep making copies. as well as DD, digital distrobution. Steam. You can buy an infinite amoun tof copies on that, where the publisher, and steam, get all the money.
When companies fall through other companies in the same area of the business typically buy them out for a bargain price or buy the pieces after the bank breaks it up. That can include the source code and employment of the developers of the game.

Yeah I'm faily sure this is it, at least if the game is to be released again. So in this case, that would mean THQ is in charge.
It's the same thing with Baldur's Gate. Black Isle has been gone for a long time, but that hasn't stopped Collectors Editions and whatnot from being released after that.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
They can re-sell used games, games that are impossible to find.
The only games I can imagine impossible to find are X1 and the like... (which you probably won't see in GS anyway) certainly not Titan Quest. What are those?

Or maybe, as Zhar said, to the creator of the company or the bank who seized them.

And sadly only for $5.00 less than the non-used copy.
