I think it is a big deal. It only happens every 26,000 years, when the sun and the earth align with the center of the galaxy.
It's not a big deal because that isn't happening in 2012. We are not lining up with the center of the galaxy. It's just an alignment of earth, mercury, and the sun or something like that. Happens all the time (relatively speaking).

Well with that argument I can say that it most definitely doesn't happen all the time (relatively speaking).

How often is that? I don't know much about astrology and stuff.

What does planet alignment have to do with anything? There is no evidence that anything would become of it. Comets, meteors, and pulsars are the biggest cosmic threats. Why don't you focus on those? If a pulsars beam passed over earth the gamma radiation would kill everyone on earth.
After participating in this thread...I can't wait till 2013 so this will all be a thing of the past.

How often is that? I don't know much about astrology and stuff.
It's Astronomy (just for the record). Astrology is the study of things like the Zodiac and Horoscopes and stuff like that.
To get some perspective on this stuff, an alignment with the center of the galaxy happens about every 33 million years. The event I was referring to (the Solar Transition of Venus - where Venus moves between the Earth and the Sun) happens ever 243 years or so. Much more frequent.
I was reading online about it and saw something where the alignment is all relative ... for instance, you could draw a line from the earth to the center of the galaxy right now from anywhere.
Now if it runs through the sun and the rest of the planets or not is one thing. I guess that's what people are saying will happen but I think that'd be hard to predict.
Now, if there was something like that ... well, it would be pretty big deal I guess. Dunno what'd it do though. If it did anything it'd have something to do with gravity, I'd guess.

My bad. I always mix those two up considering I don't know much about either. 243 ahy? That is pretty frequent isn't it? Doesn't seem like anything special.

Well I suppose the other video sorta clear up some myths in doomsdays 2012. What about the asteroid in 2036(Apophis)? This time is technical, then again i guess it doesn't matter since d3 will be out before then I hope.

Nah I didn't mean that it bothered me. I don't think anything is going to happen or something like that, I'm just saying as far as meteor strikes are concerned, 1/45,000 is pretty low compared to most of the others.
It definitely bothers me. Every time people (scientists, doctors) make predictions like that they always seem to find a way to defy the odds.

Worst case scenario, we all die. No need to get all worked up about it. [where is the roll eyes smiley?]I take comfort in knowing that life will live on even after all the big thingies are dead. Extremeophiles deep in the Earth's crust will not be affected and will eventually evolve to fill the enormous niche that the catastrophe created. Now, if the sun engulfs us, life is screwed...

Where did you hear that? According to this astrophysicist, it happens every year.
