Well, he's only be president for... 15 days (wait, how many days are in January? 31?) 16 days?. Give him some more time before you evaluate him, I'd say, although I don't like the brunt of his policies, personally.
Encouraging the economic stimulus package, the senate is not voting on their version of the bill, which is around 900 billion dollars. The house voted on their version of the bill and passed at around 800 billion dollars I think, now once the bill passes in the senate (which it will) there will have to be one finalized bill that everyone agrees on in order to get passed. The bill is focused a lot of infrastructure which is what we need now with most of our bridges and roads getting grades of Ds.
He is refocusing on Afghanistan where the brunt of the terrorist organizations are, and setting up a timetable for iraq.
He is closing Guantanamo bay, which he is getting international praise for.
You cant look to your president for every problem. He can only do so much. If you have a real problem. Write an e-mail to your local respresentative or state senator.
One of the car companies CEOs (Can't remember which) took the bailout the congress passed them and used it as a bonus. Obama was like "Oh hell naw! *YOINK* BITCH PLEASE!" Hehehe, well, I paraphrased it.
Still, standing up to the CEOs of this nation, that takes balls.
And yea, 16 days, he's done damn good for 16 days. If the rest of the presidency goes good like this, I won't be disapointed.
(Then again, as long as we don't have another Iraq, I'll be happy.)
it does pain me to see him go back on certain promises and key points, such as not being swayed by lobbyists...but he did sign a childrens healthcare bill that is definitely good, hes closing gitmo, he is concentrated on the mess the US made in afghanistan, and hes trying to get out of iraq with caution.

Afghanistan is especially important right now and Obama was always saying before he was president how we need to refocus our efforts there.
Another thing is that every time a new administration arrives, a big part of what they do for awhile is try to undo everything that the previous administration did. You've got all the things they'd like to do assuming they were working with a clean slate, but then all the things they have to undo from before just so they can start really working on the things they'd like to do.
And Explorer is right about one's local representatives. In the U.S., your daily life is affected far more by just the decisions your district representative is making over your president. Most people don't even know what their local representatives names are.
there are currently 3 categories of inmates, ones that have record of crimes, ones that are to dangerous to release, and ones that only have suspicions due to connections or eyewitness.
the torture has also put people in the last two categories, because you would say anything to make them stop...:(
so its hard to decide who goes and who stays. no real way to try them yet either.

They're simply not sure. That's why it won't be closing until at least a year from now. They're going to attempt to review everyone's cases and determine their legal status. Something the previous administration wasn't even really doing. They're in legal limbo right now and it involves all kinds of lawyers to figure out how to properly place them and where to send them to.
on another note, Obama said he will limit the salaries and bonuses of CEOs to be under 500,000. wow. too much still to be honest. i feel they should not make more than 300000 at a time like this. but kudos to barack for taking a stand against the big boys

Some supreme court decision in 1950 says that enemy combatants dont have to be tried during wartime. And since we were in a "war on terror" they didnt have to be tried. Bogus if you ask me, also they are considered detainees and not prisoners of war, so technically, we can do whatever we want to them.
I was born and raised in Guantanamo Bay and it is by far the safest place to put the most malicious people... there simply is nowhere to go. Your surrounded by water and more water, where they are being held on that part of the base... infact to get there all military personel that live on the base have to ride a ferry. Now weather these people are terrorists or not, or if they were tortured or not is a differnt story... but by far this is the pest place to put malicious people.

To tell you the truth. Many of the Senators are horrible. I just hope Obama can change my view of him during this first year. To answer the question, Obama is bad. All of them are!

War on terror? Like the war on drugs? Or the war on alcohol? This country loves war so much that they declare war on anything, I swear. One, the "War on terror" is an actual war, its like a motto or whatever. (Can't think of the right word, but I think you get what I'm saying.) Our last war was Veitnam. (Even then people argue whether it was a war or police action, but that's another debate for another thread.)You have to get approval from Congress, and Bush did NOT get approval from congress, thus we are not at war, thus whatever 1950 court case your citing has no basis here. They are illegally detained.
Personally I'd like to see George Bush on trial for his crimes. Then again, most of the world would like that too...

I wouldn't really consider any of the Obamas to be "bad". Did you know Lady Obama told the staff not to make the beds of the kids, because "They need to learn to do things for themselves"? Yea, I was like, RIGHT ON BIATCH!
I think this administration is gonna kick ass and take names.
Edit: Actually, that was for Lady Obama and not Barack Obama... Sorry. o.O
I loved that speech of Obama concerning those CEO's, it really almost made me go "fuck yeah".
Can you give me a link to that speach? I wanna see it...

They should be, but we all know that's not how America rolls. *Sigh.*
